Can't find my parent contribution invitation in FAFSA while husband got his - help!
My son just created his FAFSA account for 2025-2026 today and sent invitations to me and my husband to fill out our parent contribution sections. My husband received his invitation with no problem and already completed his portion, but I can't find mine anywhere! I've checked my email (spam folder too), tried logging into studentaid.gov directly with my FSA ID, and even had my son resend the invitation twice. Nothing is showing up for me. I'm worried this will delay his entire financial aid package. Has anyone else had this issue with missing parent invitations? How did you resolve it? We need to submit this soon so he doesn't miss priority deadlines for his school.

•Yes, I checked spam, trash, everything! Even had him resend twice more since posting this. Still nothing showing up.

I had this exact issue last month. The problem might be that your email address has a typo in the system. Ask your son to check exactly what email address he entered for you in the FAFSA system. When my daughter was sending me the contributor invitation, she accidentally put '.con' instead of '.com' in my email. Another possibility is that you may already have an FSA ID that's linked to a different email than the one your son used. Try logging into studentaid.gov directly with your FSA ID and check the "To Do" section - sometimes the invitation appears there even when the email fails to deliver.

•That's a good point about the email typo. I just texted him to check. I do have an FSA ID from when my older daughter applied years ago, but when I log in there's nothing in my To Do list. So frustrating!

sometimes the invites take FOREVER to come through. my daughter sent me mine and it took like 3 days to show up randomly. meanwhile her dad got his right away just like your situation. maybe just wait one more day?

This is a common issue with the new FAFSA system. There are several technical solutions you can try: 1. First, have your son verify he entered the correct email for you 2. Try accessing through studentaid.gov directly with your FSA ID - check both the Dashboard and the Messages section 3. Try a different browser or clear your cache if you're logging in but not seeing notifications 4. If your husband completed his section, you can sometimes access yours through the same household link (there should be a toggle option) If none of these work, you may need to contact Federal Student Aid directly. Unfortunately, phone wait times are extremely long (often 2+ hours), so be prepared if you call the help line.

•Thank you for these detailed steps! My son confirmed my email is correct in the system. I tried logging in with both Chrome and Edge browsers with the same result - no invitation appearing anywhere. I don't see any household link option when my husband logs in either. Looks like I might have to call FSA directly as you suggested.

When this happened to me I figured out that I actually had two FSA IDs somehow? One from years ago that I forgot about. Maybe check if you're logging in with the right account?

•That's interesting - I'll try to see if I can recover any old FSA IDs with my email. Though I'm pretty sure I'm using the right one since I reset the password recently.

I spent THREE DAYS trying to deal with this exact same issue last month!!! The FAFSA system is a COMPLETE DISASTER this year. I tried everything - multiple browsers, different devices, clearing cache, having my son resend invites multiple times. Nothing worked. I finally had to call Federal Student Aid directly, and of course got disconnected TWICE after waiting on hold for over an hour each time. I was ready to throw my computer out the window!!! Finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to an actual FSA agent without the ridiculous wait. They have this video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ - basically they wait in the phone queue for you and call when an agent is ready. The agent found out there was a glitch in the system where invites weren't linking properly to existing FSA IDs. They had to manually connect my invitation to my account. Took about 10 minutes once I actually got to talk to someone.

•Thank you SO much for sharing this! I just tried calling FSA and got the "high call volume" message with an estimated 2+ hour wait. Will definitely check out that service because we need to get this resolved ASAP for my son's deadlines.

•is that service legit? seems kinda weird to have someone else call for u

•@profile7 Yeah it's legit! They don't actually talk to the agent for you - they just wait in the phone queue and call you when an agent picks up. Then you talk directly to the FSA agent yourself. Saved me hours of waiting on hold.

I had something similar happen and discovered that my son had accidentally entered slightly different versions of our email addresses. For example, he used my gmail account but my husband's work email. Check if your son might have sent your invitation to a different email account you have. Also, the new FAFSA has this weird thing where if you already have an FSA ID, the system sometimes doesn't send a new email invitation - it just expects you to log in and see the connection request in your dashboard. Try logging into your FSA ID account and look in both the Messages section and the "To Do" section.

•Thanks for the suggestion! I checked all my email accounts and nothing there. I also logged into my FSA ID account again and still don't see anything in Messages or To Do. I'm starting to think there might be some kind of system error with my specific account.

Just curious - after your son sent the invitation, did he get any confirmation message that it was sent successfully to both you and your husband? Sometimes the system gives an error message but students miss it.

•He said he got confirmation screens for both of us that looked identical. That's what makes this so mysterious!

Based on your responses to everyone's suggestions, this does sound like a system error that will require FSA intervention to fix. When you do connect with them, make sure to have the following ready: 1. Your FSA ID login information 2. Your son's FSA ID (but not his password) 3. The exact date/time he sent the invitations 4. Confirmation that your husband successfully completed his portion The agent will likely need to manually link your account to your son's FAFSA application. They might also need to send a special invitation link directly to you. Good luck!

•Thank you so much for this detailed checklist! I'm going to try calling them tomorrow with all this information ready.

UPDATE: Problem solved! I used the Claimyr service that @profile5 recommended to get through to FSA without the long wait. The agent found that there was a system glitch where my FSA ID wasn't properly linking to the invitation even though my email was correct. They had to manually link my account to my son's application. Now I can see and complete my portion! Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions.

•So happy it worked out! The exact same thing happened to me. The new FAFSA system has so many bugs this year.
