Can't find FAFSA contributor invitation email - husband got his but mine is missing
I'm panicking a little bit with our FAFSA contributor situation! My son created his FAFSA account yesterday and sent contributor invitations to both me and my husband. My husband received his invitation right away and already completed his section. I've been waiting 24 hours and NO invitation has shown up in my email! I've checked spam, trash, all folders... nothing! My son confirmed he sent it to the correct email address for me. Has anyone else had this problem with missing contributor invitations? Is there a way for him to resend it or some other way I can access it? His college priority deadline is coming up soon and I don't want him to miss out on aid because of this stupid technical issue.

This happened to me last month with my daughter's FAFSA. The system sometimes glitches with contributor invitations. Have your son go back into his studentaid.gov account, check the contributor section, and he should be able to see if your invitation is still pending or if there was an error. He can delete your invitation and create a new one. Make sure he's typing your email correctly - even one wrong character will cause issues. Also check that your email account isn't automatically filtering or blocking emails from studentaid.gov domain.

•Thank you! I'll have him check right away. Do you know if deleting and resending the invitation will affect anything with my husband's already completed section?

omg the same thing happened with MY son's fafsa!!!! his dad got the email but mine never came. we waited like 2 days and then my son just deleted mine and resent it and it worked fine the second time. maybe their system was just being glitchy that day???

•That's reassuring to hear! I'll have him try resending tonight when he gets home from work. Did you have any issues after resending it?

Check your email settings too. I had a similar issue and discovered that my email provider was automatically putting the FAFSA emails into a "promotions" or "updates" tab that I rarely check. Also, try searching specifically for "contributor" or "FSA" in your email - sometimes they have weird subject lines that don't obviously say FAFSA.

•Good idea! I just tried searching for both those terms and still nothing. I use Gmail and checked all the tabs and folders.

This is why I HATE the new FAFSA system! Everything is constantly broken and they expect us parents to just figure it out. My daughter's FAFSA has had so many technical issues I can't even count them all. And good luck trying to call them for help - you'll be waiting until next year's FAFSA opens!!

•I know the frustration with the phone lines can be maddening. If you need to speak with an actual FAFSA agent quickly, I'd recommend using Claimyr (claimyr.com). It saved me hours of waiting when we had issues with our contributor invitations. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ. They basically call and wait in the queue for you, then connect you when an agent is available. Much less stressful than being stuck on hold forever.

There are several technical solutions that can help here: 1. Have your son check the contributor dashboard on studentaid.gov to see if your invitation shows as "sent" or "error" 2. If it shows as sent, he should delete it and resend to your email (double-check spelling) 3. Make sure your email hasn't blocked studentaid.gov domain 4. If resending doesn't work, your son can actually switch to the "provide parent information directly" method instead of using the contributor invitation system The contributor system is optional - it's just designed to protect privacy. If you're having technical issues, your son can select the option to enter parent information directly instead of using the contributor system. You would just need to provide him with your financial information to enter.

•Wait, I didn't realize that was an option! So he could just enter my information himself? That might be the easiest solution at this point. We share financial information openly in our family, so privacy isn't a huge concern. Do you know if that would cause any problems since my husband already completed his contributor section?

If your husband already completed his section, it gets a bit complicated. The system expects both contributors to use the same method (either both using the invitation system or both having information entered directly). My recommendation would be: 1. Have your son login to his studentaid.gov account 2. Go to the parent/contributor section 3. Check if your invitation shows as sent or has an error status 4. Delete your invitation and try sending a new one to a DIFFERENT email address if you have one 5. If that doesn't work, he may need to contact Federal Student Aid to ask about mixing contributor methods The 2025-2026 FAFSA specifically tried to make this process easier, but these technical glitches are still happening unfortunately.

•Thank you so much for the detailed explanation! I'll try using my work email address instead. If that doesn't work, I guess we'll have to contact FSA directly. Really hoping we can figure this out - the priority deadline for his top choice school is just 2 weeks away!

This happened to me too! The weird thing is that the invitation was actually hiding in my gmail under the "Categories" tab - specifically in the "Promotions" section. Gmail sometimes sorts emails from government sites strangely. Check there if you haven't already!

•I did check all the tabs in Gmail including Promotions - nothing there unfortunately. I'm starting to think it's a glitch in the FAFSA system rather than an email issue.

Just to follow up on my earlier comment - no, having your son delete and resend your invitation won't affect your husband's completed section at all. The contributor sections are handled separately in the system. Also, for future reference, there's a specific process if you need to update the contributor information after submission: 1. The student logs into studentaid.gov 2. Goes to the FAFSA form 3. Selects "Make FAFSA Corrections" 4. Updates the necessary parent/contributor information But for now, definitely try the deletion and resend approach. About 80% of the time that resolves the missing invitation issue.

•That's a relief! I'll have him delete and resend tonight. Thanks for clarifying that it won't affect my husband's section - that was my main concern.

•That's actually a good point. I had a similar issue where notifications were turned off on my desktop email client but were coming through on my phone. Technology is weird sometimes!

UPDATE: Success! My son deleted the original invitation and resent it to my alternate email address. It showed up within minutes! Already completed my section and now his FAFSA is fully submitted. Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions! For anyone else having this issue, definitely try using a different email address if the resend doesn't work with your primary email.

•Great to hear! Glad it worked out. Make sure your son logs back in about 3-5 days from now to check the status - sometimes there are additional verification steps or information requests that show up after initial processing is complete.
