Experian Credit Freeze Removal: Online Verification Nightmare. Need Human Help!

Hey everyone, I'm having a real headache trying to remove the security freeze on my credit report. I've tried doing it online and through the automated phone system, but I keep running into issues with verifying my identity. Has anyone else dealt with this? Any tips on how to get through to a real person who can help me out? I'm at my wits' end here!

Ugh, been there done that. The online system is a joke. I spent hours trying to verify my identity and kept getting error messages. So frustrating!

Same here! I thought it was just me being technologically challenged 😅 Glad to know I'm not alone in this mess

Its ridiculous how they make it so hard to access our OWN information. Like, hello? Its MY credit report! 🙄

I feel your pain, OP. Here's what worked for me: 1. Call early in the morning, right when they open. 2. Have ALL your personal info ready (SSN, addresses for the past 5 years, etc.) 3. Be patient and polite with the rep (even though it's tempting to lose it) 4. If one rep can't help, don't be afraid to call back and try again It took me a few tries, but I finally got it sorted. Good luck!

Thanks for the detailed advice! I'll definitely try calling first thing tomorrow morning. Fingers crossed 🤞

This is solid advice. I'd add: write down the name of who you talk to and get a reference number for the call if possible. It helps if you need to follow up later.

Pro tip: I found a method to get someone on the phone quickly. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this service? Is it legit?

$20 just to talk to someone? That's highway robbery! 😤

I get the skepticism, but honestly, after wasting hours trying to get through, it was worth every penny to me. Saved me a ton of time and frustration.

I've used it before for a different issue. It's legit, but yeah, kinda pricey. Depends on how much you value your time I guess 🤷‍♂️

Have you tried sending a certified letter? I know it sounds old school, but sometimes snail mail is the way to go with these bureaucratic nightmares.

lol welcome to the wonderful world of credit bureaus, where everything's made up and your sanity doesn't matter 🤡

🤣🤣🤣 Ain't that the truth! Sometimes I think they make it difficult on purpose

Quick question - which credit bureau are you trying to remove the freeze from? Some are worse than others when it comes to customer service.

I'm trying to remove it from Experian. But from what I've heard, they're all pretty bad 😩

Oof, Experian. Yep, they're notorious. Hang in there, OP!

Not to be that guy, but have you double-checked that you're using the correct website? There are a lot of scam sites out there that look legit but are just phishing for your info.

Good point! I made sure to use the official Experian site, but it's always worth double-checking. Thanks for looking out! 👍

I work in finance (not for a credit bureau tho) and here's a secret: sometimes the verification fails if your credit report has outdated info. Might be worth checking if all your personal details are up to date.

This! 👆 I had issues because I moved recently and forgot to update my address everywhere. Once I sorted that out, everything went smooth sailing.

unpopular opinion: maybe keeping the freeze on isn't such a bad idea? In this day and age of identity theft, I'm paranoid about leaving my credit unfrozen 😬

I get where you're coming from, but sometimes you need to unfreeze it temporarily, like when applying for a loan or a new job.

Fair point. I guess it's about finding the right balance between security and convenience.

I went through this exact same nightmare last month! What finally worked for me was calling the dispute number instead of the main customer service line - it's 1-888-397-3742. The wait times were shorter and the reps seemed more knowledgeable about freeze issues. Also, make sure you have your PIN handy (the one they gave you when you first froze it). Without that PIN, they make the whole process 10x harder. Hope this helps!
