when does unemployment get deposited Washington ESD payment schedule
I just filed my weekly claim on Sunday and I'm wondering when I can expect my unemployment payment to actually hit my bank account? This is my first time on unemployment and I'm not sure about the timing. My claim status shows 'paid' but I don't see the money yet. Does Washington ESD deposit on specific days of the week?

Usually takes 2-3 business days after you file your weekly claim. Washington ESD processes payments on Tuesday and Wednesday, so if you filed Sunday you should see it by Wednesday or Thursday at the latest.

•Thanks! So it's not instant like some other things. Good to know I should expect it midweek.

Sadie Benitez
•Yeah definitely not instant, the state has to process everything first before releasing funds.

Depends on your bank too. Some banks hold ACH deposits longer than others. I get mine Tuesday afternoons usually but my friend with a different bank doesn't see hers until Thursday.

•I have a credit union, wonder if that makes a difference in processing time.

Drew Hathaway
•Credit unions are usually pretty quick with deposits in my experience. You'll probably get it on the earlier side.

I was having trouble getting through to Washington ESD about this exact question last month. Kept getting busy signals and automated hangups. Finally used this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helps you get through to an actual agent. They have a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works. The agent I talked to confirmed the Tuesday/Wednesday processing schedule.

•Never heard of that service before. Did you have to pay for it or give them personal info?

Laila Prince
•They focus on just helping you get through the phone system, not asking for personal details. Was worth it for me since I'd been trying to call for weeks.

Isabel Vega
•Interesting, might have to check that out if I need to call Washington ESD again. Their phone system is terrible.

Make sure your direct deposit info is correct in your account! I had the wrong routing number for like 3 weeks and kept wondering where my payments were. Had to fix it and then wait for them to reissue.

Vanessa Figueroa
•Oh no! How did you figure out it was wrong? Did Washington ESD notify you somehow?

Dominique Adams
•I had to log into my account and check the payment history. It showed 'returned' for all my payments. That's when I realized the bank info was wrong.

The whole system is SO SLOW compared to other states. My sister in California gets her unemployment the next day after filing. Here we wait half the week.

•Different states have different processing systems. Washington's isn't the fastest but it's pretty reliable once you understand the timing.

•I guess reliable is better than fast and broken. Still frustrating when you need the money though.

Question - do holidays affect the deposit schedule? Like if there's a federal holiday on Tuesday, does that push everything back a day?

Abby Marshall
•Yes, bank holidays will delay it. If Tuesday is a holiday, you'd probably see deposits Wednesday or Thursday instead.

Sadie Benitez
•Makes sense. I'll keep that in mind around holiday weeks.

Vanessa Figueroa
•Good point, didn't think about holidays affecting it.

I've been on unemployment for 6 months and it's always been Tuesday afternoon for me. Chase bank if that helps anyone. Pretty consistent timing once you get used to it.

Vanessa Figueroa
•That's reassuring to hear it's consistent. I was worried it might be random timing.

Drew Hathaway
•Chase is usually pretty fast with ACH deposits. Tuesday afternoon sounds about right for them.

What if your claim shows 'pending' instead of 'paid'? I filed Sunday but it still says pending today (Tuesday).
0 coins
Abby Marshall
•Pending usually means there's an issue that needs to be resolved. Could be something with your job search requirements or they need to verify something.

Louisa Ramirez
•Ugh, I did my job searches and logged them. Wonder what the issue could be.

Laila Prince
•This is exactly the kind of situation where calling Washington ESD helps. That Claimyr service I mentioned earlier is great for getting through to someone who can tell you exactly what the pending issue is.

Been waiting 4 days and still nothing. This is ridiculous. How are people supposed to pay rent when the state takes forever to process payments?
0 coins
Abby Marshall
•4 days is longer than usual. I'd check your payment history in your Washington ESD account to see if there's an issue.

•It just says 'paid' but no money in my account. My bank says they haven't received anything.

•Sounds like the same issue I had with wrong bank info. Double check your direct deposit details.

Pro tip: set up text alerts with your bank so you know immediately when the deposit hits. Saves you from constantly checking your account.

Vanessa Figueroa
•That's a good idea! I've been checking my account like 5 times a day waiting for it.

Angel Campbell
•Yeah it's much less stressful when you just get a text notification. Most banks have this feature in their app.

I remember when I first started getting unemployment I was so paranoid about the timing. Now it's just routine - file Sunday, expect money Tuesday or Wednesday. You get used to budgeting around that schedule.

Vanessa Figueroa
•Yeah I'm definitely going to have to adjust my budget planning. Good to know what to expect going forward.

Isabel Vega
•The routine definitely helps with planning. I schedule my bill payments around knowing when the unemployment comes in.

Does anyone know if the time of day you file your weekly claim affects when you get paid? Like if I file at midnight Sunday vs noon Sunday?
0 coins
Abby Marshall
•As long as you file by the deadline (usually Saturday night), the time doesn't really matter. They batch process everything together.

Harold Oh
•Good to know, I was wondering if filing early gave you any advantage.

My payment was delayed once because I had to verify my identity. Took an extra week while they processed the verification documents. Just something to be aware of.

Vanessa Figueroa
•How did they notify you that verification was needed? Email or through the account?
0 coins
Amun-Ra Azra
•Both. Got an email and there was a message in my Washington ESD account inbox. Had to upload documents through the portal.

The payment schedule is one thing but has anyone noticed they sometimes process payments on different days during busy periods? Like around the holidays when more people are filing?
0 coins
Abby Marshall
•I haven't noticed that personally, but it's possible during high-volume periods they might adjust their processing schedule slightly.

Summer Green
•Makes sense. I thought I noticed some variation around Christmas time but wasn't sure.

Quick question - if you miss filing your weekly claim on Sunday, can you still file Monday and get paid the same week?
0 coins
Abby Marshall
•You can file late but it might delay your payment. Washington ESD processes in batches so late filings might not make it into the current week's batch.
0 coins
Gael Robinson
•Good to know. I'll make sure to file on time going forward.

This might be a dumb question but when they say 2-3 business days, does that include the day you file or start counting the next day?
0 coins
Abby Marshall
•Usually starts counting the next business day after you file. So if you file Sunday, Monday would be day 1.

Edward McBride
•Thanks for clarifying! That helps me plan better.

I switched from paper checks to direct deposit mid-claim and it was the best decision. Checks took forever and I was always worried about them getting lost in the mail.
0 coins
Vanessa Figueroa
•I can't imagine waiting for checks in the mail. Direct deposit seems so much more reliable.
0 coins
Darcy Moore
•Yeah definitely. Plus no risk of checks getting stolen from your mailbox or anything like that.

For anyone still having trouble getting answers from Washington ESD directly, I also had success with that Claimyr service someone mentioned earlier. Really helped when I needed to sort out a payment issue and couldn't get through on the phone.

Vanessa Figueroa
•Seems like several people have had good experiences with that. Might be worth remembering if I run into issues.

•Yeah, it's nice to have options when the regular phone system isn't working. The wait times can be brutal otherwise.

Bottom line for the OP - you should see your payment by Wednesday or Thursday at the latest if you filed Sunday and everything is processed normally. The Tuesday/Wednesday processing schedule is pretty reliable in my experience.

•Perfect, thanks everyone for all the helpful info! I'll stop obsessively checking my bank account now that I know what to expect.

•Good luck! Once you get into the routine it becomes much less stressful.
