Who qualifies for $600 unemployment benefits in Washington ESD?
I keep hearing people talk about getting $600 in unemployment but I'm not sure if I qualify or what program this even is. My regular UI benefit is only $450/week right now. Is this some kind of bonus payment from Washington ESD? I've been on unemployment for 6 weeks and haven't seen any extra $600. Should I be applying for something separate or does it automatically get added? Really confused about the whole thing.

The $600 you're thinking of was the Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (FPUC) that ended in 2021. There's no current $600 bonus program running through Washington ESD right now. Your regular UI benefit amount is based on your earnings history during your base period.

•Oh wow, I had no idea that ended years ago. Thanks for clearing that up!

Your regular unemployment benefit in Washington is calculated as your weekly benefit amount (WBA) which is based on the wages you earned during your base period. The maximum WBA for 2025 is around $1,015 per week if you earned enough. There's no additional $600 being added to claims right now.

•How do I know if I'm getting the right amount then? My benefit seems lower than what I expected.

•You can check your monetary determination letter that Washington ESD sent you when your claim was approved. It shows exactly how they calculated your WBA based on your base period wages.

I was confused about this too! I kept calling Washington ESD trying to ask about the $600 but could never get through. Finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to actually talk to someone and they explained there's no current $600 program. The service got me connected to an agent in like 20 minutes instead of waiting on hold forever.

•Yeah it's real, they have a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ showing how it works. Basically helps you get through to Washington ESD when the phone lines are swamped.

•Nope, all the pandemic-era federal programs ended. Right now it's just regular state unemployment benefits through Washington ESD.

•that sucks, the regular amount barely covers rent

The current maximum unemployment benefit in Washington depends on your earnings but ranges from about $295 to $1,015 per week. If you think your benefit amount is wrong, you can appeal the monetary determination within 30 days of receiving it.

•Where do I find information about appealing? I never got a clear explanation of how my amount was calculated.

•Check your Washington ESD account online or look for the monetary determination notice they mailed you. It should have appeal instructions on it.

I'm getting $680/week right now which seems decent compared to what some people are saying. But I worked a pretty high paying job before getting laid off. The amount really depends on what you were making before.

•Yeah that sounds about right for a higher income. I'm only getting $390 because I was working part time before.

•The calculation is complex but generally it's about 50% of your average weekly wages during your base period.

•I know it's frustrating. The Washington ESD website has a benefit calculator tool that can give you an estimate based on your earnings.

•tried that but it just confused me more honestly

For anyone still confused about their benefit amount - I had the same issue and used that Claimyr service someone mentioned earlier. Got connected to a Washington ESD rep who walked me through exactly how my weekly benefit was calculated. Turns out I was getting the right amount, just didn't understand the formula.

•How much does Claimyr cost?

•It's worth it just to finally talk to someone at Washington ESD without spending hours on hold. Way better than the frustration of never getting through.

Just to be clear for everyone - there is NO $600 federal supplement currently available. That ended in September 2021. Your unemployment benefit is based solely on your Washington state earnings history now.

•Thank you for stating this clearly! I see so much misinformation floating around about unemployment benefits.

The Washington ESD benefit calculation uses your highest earning quarter from your base period and multiplies it by different percentages depending on your situation. It's actually quite fair once you understand how it works.

•This is helpful context. I guess I just need to accept that $450 is what I qualify for based on my work history.

StarStrider
•Exactly. And remember you still need to file your weekly claims and meet job search requirements to keep receiving benefits.

i was getting confused because my friend in another state mentioned $600 but i guess different states have different amounts? washington seems pretty generous compared to some places

•Yes, each state sets their own unemployment benefit amounts. Washington actually has one of the higher maximum benefits in the country.

Bottom line: No $600 federal supplement exists anymore. Your unemployment amount from Washington ESD is based on your work history and wages. If you have questions about your specific amount, contact Washington ESD directly - though good luck getting through on the phone!

•That's why services like Claimyr are so useful - they actually help you reach a human at Washington ESD when you need answers.

•Agreed, the phone system is impossible otherwise. I gave up trying to call directly months ago.

For what it's worth, I looked into this same question last month and confirmed through Washington ESD that there are no federal supplements currently active. Just wanted to add my verification to this thread.
