Where do I file my weekly unemployment claim with Washington ESD?

I just got approved for unemployment benefits and need to file my first weekly claim but I'm totally lost on where to do this. I've been looking all over the Washington ESD website and can't figure out where the weekly claim filing section is. Is it through the same portal where I filed my initial claim? I'm worried I'm going to miss the deadline and mess up my benefits. Can someone point me in the right direction?

You file your weekly claims through the same eServices portal on the Washington ESD website. Log into your account and look for the 'File Weekly Claim' option on your dashboard. It should be pretty visible once you're logged in.

Thanks! I found it right after logging in. Can't believe I missed it before.

the interface is kind of confusing at first, took me a few tries to figure it out too

Make sure you file every week even if you worked some hours. You still need to report any earnings and they'll calculate your partial benefits if you qualify.

0 coins

Good to know! I picked up a few hours of work last week so I'll make sure to report that.

0 coins

Yeah don't skip weeks or you could lose your benefits entirely. I learned that the hard way.

I had so many issues trying to get through to Washington ESD when I was confused about the weekly claims process. Spent hours on hold and kept getting disconnected. Finally found this service called Claimyr that helped me get through to an actual agent. They have a website at claimyr.com and there's a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works. Saved me so much frustration.

Never heard of that service before but might be worth checking out if the phone lines are still as bad as they were last year

0 coins

I'll keep that in mind if I run into issues. The phone system has been pretty bad from what I've heard.

Also remember that you have to file your weekly claim during the specific filing period. For most people it's Sunday through Saturday but check your account to see your exact dates.

0 coins

Where do I find my filing period dates? I don't see them anywhere obvious.

0 coins

Should be in your account dashboard or in the weekly claim section. It'll show you when your current week started and when you need to file by.

0 coins

ugh the whole weekly claim thing is so annoying. why can't they just automatically pay us instead of making us jump through hoops every week??

0 coins

Because they need to verify you're still unemployed and actively looking for work. It's a requirement for receiving benefits.

0 coins

I know WHY they do it but it's still a pain in the butt

0 coins

Make sure you answer all the questions honestly especially about job search activities. They can audit your claims later and if you lied about looking for work you could owe everything back.

0 coins

What kind of job search activities do I need to report? Just applications or other stuff too?

0 coins

Applications, networking events, job fairs, interviews - basically any activity where you're actively looking for work. Keep records of everything.

I missed filing my weekly claim one time and had to call to get it reopened. Took forever to get through to someone and they made me provide all this documentation about why I missed it.

0 coins

How long did it take to get your claim back open?

0 coins

About 2 weeks but I lost that week's benefits completely. They said I could have filed late but I didn't know that was an option.

Pro tip: set a reminder on your phone to file every week. I do mine every Sunday morning with my coffee. Makes it part of the routine so you don't forget.

0 coins

That's a great idea! I'm definitely going to set up a recurring reminder.

0 coins

Same here, I have mine set for Saturday evenings so I don't have to think about it on Sunday

0 coins

Does anyone know if the website crashes less on certain days? I remember last year it was always super slow on Sundays and Mondays.

0 coins

Tuesday through Thursday mornings seem to be the best times in my experience. Weekend and Monday mornings are definitely the worst.

0 coins

yeah avoid sunday nights at all costs, that's when everyone is trying to file

0 coins

One more thing - make sure you're keeping track of your work search activities throughout the week. Don't wait until you're filing your claim to try to remember what you did.

0 coins

Should I be keeping physical records or is there a way to track this online?

0 coins

I keep a simple spreadsheet with dates, company names, and what I did (applied, called, emailed, etc.). Washington ESD might ask for this info during an audit.

0 coins

Wait, I thought you had to file weekly claims on paper? My neighbor said she mails hers in every week.

0 coins

That's the old way. Everything is online now through eServices. Much faster and you get confirmation right away.

0 coins

Oh wow, I need to tell her about this. She's been driving to the post office every week!

0 coins

If you're having trouble accessing your account or the website isn't working, there's also a phone option to file your weekly claim. The number should be in your paperwork.

0 coins

Good to know there's a backup option if the website is down.

0 coins

The phone system can be just as frustrating though. That's why I mentioned Claimyr earlier - they can help you get through to an agent when you need actual help.

0 coins

I've been filing weekly claims for months now and honestly the process gets pretty routine after the first few times. The questions are basically the same every week.

0 coins

That's reassuring to hear. I was worried it would be complicated every time.

0 coins

Nah, it's usually just yes/no questions about whether you worked, looked for work, were able to work, etc. Takes like 5 minutes max.

0 coins

Make sure your contact information is up to date in your account. If Washington ESD needs to reach you about your claim and can't, it can cause delays in your benefits.

0 coins

Where do I update my contact info? Is it in the same eServices portal?

0 coins

Yes, there should be a section for managing your profile or account information where you can update address, phone, email, etc.

0 coins

One thing that caught me off guard was the waiting week. Even though I filed my weekly claim, I didn't get paid for the first week. Apparently that's normal but nobody told me about it.

0 coins

Really? So I won't get paid for this first week even if I file the claim?

0 coins

Right, the first week is a waiting week. You'll get paid starting from the second week if you're eligible.

0 coins

The system usually updates pretty quickly after you file. I can see my claim status change within a few hours of filing.

0 coins

That's good to know. I'll keep an eye on my account after I file.

0 coins

Sometimes there are delays though, especially if there's a holiday or system maintenance

0 coins

If you're not sure about how to answer any of the questions on your weekly claim, it's better to call and ask than to guess. Wrong answers can cause problems later.

0 coins

That makes sense. I'd rather take the time to get it right than have issues down the road.

0 coins

Exactly why services like Claimyr can be helpful. Getting through to an agent to ask questions can be nearly impossible otherwise.

0 coins

Don't forget that you can file weekly claims even if you're doing part-time work. They'll just reduce your benefits based on how much you earned.

0 coins

How much can I earn before it affects my benefits?

0 coins

There's a formula they use but generally you can earn up to a certain amount before they start reducing your weekly benefit amount. Check your account for the specific numbers.

0 coins

Been filing weekly claims for 4 months now and my biggest advice is just to be consistent. File every week at the same time and keep good records. Makes everything much easier.

0 coins

Thanks for all the advice everyone! I feel much more confident about filing my weekly claims now.

0 coins

You'll do fine. The first one is always the most confusing but after that it becomes second nature.

0 coins

Oh and one last thing - save or screenshot your confirmation page after you file each week. Sometimes there are technical glitches and having proof you filed can save you headaches later.

0 coins

Great tip! I'll make sure to save the confirmation.

0 coins

Yes, definitely do this. I had to prove I filed a claim once when their system had issues and the screenshot saved me.
