When will the 2025 Working Families Tax Credit payments be issued by ESD?

Does anyone know when the Working Families Tax Credit payments are supposed to hit our accounts this year? I qualified last year and got mine around mid-March, but I haven't heard anything about the 2025 timeline. The ESD website isn't clear about it at all. I'm counting on that $1,350 to catch up on some bills that piled up after my unemployment ran out in January. Has anyone gotten their payment already or heard any official word on when they're being distributed?

The Working Families Tax Credit (WFTC) is actually administered by the Department of Revenue, not ESD. According to the updated DOR website, they're still processing 2024 applications and haven't started issuing 2025 payments yet. The current timeline shows payments should start going out in early April if you've already been approved previously. New applicants might wait 8-12 weeks once they submit their documentation. Keep in mind you need to file your 2024 taxes first if you haven't already, as that's part of the verification process.

Ugh, seriously? I thought ESD handled this. No wonder I couldn't find anything on their site! Thanks for clarifying - I'll check the DOR website instead. April seems so far away when you're counting on that money. Do you know if there's any way to check the status of your application?

That's not possible unless she's talking about a different credit. The Department of Revenue hasn't released 2025 WFTC payments yet - they just posted an update about this last week. The system is processing applications but no money has been distributed. Also, the number of kids doesn't affect your place in line, it only affects the amount you receive.

I've been waiting too!!! SO FRUSTRATING how the government makes everything so complicated. They rejected my application last year for "incomplete documentation" when I DEFINITELY sent everything they asked for. Now I'm nervous about this year's payment. Anyone know if they're stricter about approvals this year?

They did implement some additional verification steps this year to reduce fraud. Make sure all your documents are clearly legible and that your reported income on the WFTC application matches exactly what's on your tax return. Even small discrepancies can trigger a review that delays your payment by several weeks.

The Working Families Tax Credit is so freaking confusing!! I spent TWO HOURS yesterday trying to get through to someone at DOR to ask about this. Kept getting disconnected or put on hold forever. I have questions about my eligibility after changing jobs mid-year and nobody can give me a straight answer. Has anyone actually spoken to a human being there recently?

I managed to get through to them last week using a service called Claimyr. It basically holds your place in line and calls you back when an agent is available. Saved me hours of waiting on hold! Their website is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3. The DOR agent I spoke with said they're processing applications in batches based on when you submitted, not by any other factors. She also mentioned that changing jobs doesn't affect eligibility as long as your total income still falls within the guidelines.

Just to clarify some confusion I'm seeing in this thread - the Working Families Tax Credit is COMPLETELY SEPARATE from unemployment benefits. ESD handles unemployment, while DOR (Department of Revenue) manages the WFTC program. Key facts for 2025 payments: - Application window opened January 2nd - Must file 2024 taxes first - Income limit is $64,750 for a family of 4 (increased from last year) - Maximum credit is now $1,350 (up from $1,200) - Payments process in order of application completion - First wave of direct deposits begins April 5th - Status updates available through your MyDOR account Hope this helps clear things up!

This is super helpful, thank you! I didn't realize the amount increased this year. Do you know if there's any penalty for using a different bank account than last year? I switched banks in November.

No penalty for changing bank accounts, but you need to update your direct deposit information in your MyDOR account before March 20th for it to apply to this year's payment. After that date, they might send a paper check if your direct deposit info isn't current.

back in 2023 they sent my check to my old adress even though i updated my info!! be careful with that. took 3 months to get it fixed and reissued.

Thanks for the warning! I'll double-check all my contact info is up to date. Did you have to fill out any special forms to get it reissued?

I think there's still some confusion here. The Working Families Tax Credit isn't an ESD program at all, so this might not be the best forum for getting accurate information. It's run entirely by the Washington State Department of Revenue, and they have their own customer service line (360-763-7300) specifically for WFTC questions. From their website, it looks like payments are scheduled to begin April 5th and continue through May. If you're waiting on a payment, you can check your status through your MyDOR account rather than calling ESD.

Thanks for the clarification and the phone number! I'll call them directly. I assumed it was an ESD thing since I qualified based on my unemployment period last year. Still learning how all these different programs work.
