When is payday for unemployment benefits in Washington ESD?
I just got approved for unemployment after waiting forever and I'm trying to figure out when I'll actually get paid. I filed my weekly claim on Sunday but I don't see any deposit in my account yet. Does anyone know what day of the week Washington ESD actually sends out payments? I'm behind on rent and need to know when to expect the money.

Payments usually go out on Tuesday or Wednesday if you filed your weekly claim by Sunday. It depends on your bank though - some take longer to process the deposit.

•Thanks! I use Chase so hopefully it shows up tomorrow.

•Chase is pretty fast, you should see it by Wednesday morning.

I've been on unemployment for 3 months now and the pattern is pretty consistent. File by Sunday night, payment shows up Wednesday morning in my account. Sometimes Tuesday if it's a holiday week.

•Good to know! Do you get any notification when it's sent or do you just have to check your account?

•Washington ESD sends a text if you signed up for alerts, but I usually just check my bank app on Tuesday evenings.

If you're having trouble getting through to Washington ESD to check on payment status, I found this service called Claimyr that helps you actually reach an agent. They have a system that calls for you and gets you connected. Check out claimyr.com - there's even a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works.

•Is that legit? I've been trying to call Washington ESD for weeks about a payment issue.

•Yeah it's real, I used it last month when my payments got held up for job search verification. Got through to an agent in like 20 minutes instead of calling all day.

•How much does it cost though? I'm already broke waiting for my benefits.

Just a heads up - make sure you're filing your weekly claims on time every week. Even if you mess up once, it can delay ALL your payments while they review everything. I learned this the hard way.

•What do you mean mess up? Like file late or put wrong information?

Omar Hassan
•Both can cause problems. I accidentally said I worked when I didn't one week and it triggered an adjudication review that took 6 weeks to resolve.

The payment schedule is Tuesday/Wednesday for most people but if there's ANY issue with your claim - job search requirements not met, wages reported incorrectly, anything - it goes into a hold status and you won't get paid until it's resolved.

•How do you know if there's an issue? Do they tell you?

Malik Jackson
•You'll see it in your account online - it'll show 'under review' or 'adjudication pending' instead of 'paid' status.

•This is exactly why I had to use that Claimyr thing someone mentioned earlier. My claim got stuck and I couldn't reach anyone at Washington ESD for 3 weeks.

ugh I HATE how they make you wait so long between filing and getting paid. Like we're already struggling, why make us wait 3-4 days on top of everything else??

•I think it's because they have to verify everything and process millions of claims. Still sucks though.

•Yeah but other states do it faster. My friend in California gets paid the next day after filing.

Pro tip: set up direct deposit if you haven't already. The debit card they send takes even longer and has fees for everything.

•I did direct deposit when I applied. Is there anything else I need to do?

Freya Christensen
•Nope, you should be good. Just make sure your bank info is correct in your Washington ESD account.

Also make sure you're keeping up with the job search requirements. You need to be applying to jobs and logging them in WorkSource or your payments will get stopped.

•How many jobs do I need to apply to each week?

Isabella Costa
•I think it's 3 job search activities per week, but double check the requirements for your specific claim type.

•It varies - some people need more if they're in certain industries or have been on unemployment for a while.

I was in the same boat as you a few months ago. First payment is always nerve-wracking because you don't know the timing yet. After the first one, you'll get into a rhythm.

•Thanks, that makes me feel better. I'm just really stressed about money right now.

•I totally get it. Hang in there - once the payments start coming regularly it gets easier to budget.

One more thing - if your payment doesn't show up by Thursday, definitely call or check your account online. Sometimes there are issues that need to be resolved before they can release the money.

•Good to know. Hopefully I won't need to call though - I've heard it's impossible to get through.

•That's where Claimyr really helps. I was able to get through and sort out a payment delay in one call instead of trying for days.

payments usually hit my account tuesday night around 11pm, so I check Wednesday morning. Been pretty consistent for the 8 weeks I've been claiming

•Perfect, I'll check Wednesday morning then. Thanks everyone!

Just remember that holidays can mess up the schedule too. If Monday is a federal holiday, payments might be delayed by a day.

•Good point, I'll keep that in mind for future weeks.

The waiting is the worst part honestly. Once you get into the routine it's not so bad but that first payment feels like it takes forever.

•So true. I remember refreshing my bank account every hour that first week.

•Exactly! Now I just check Wednesday mornings and move on with my day.

Make sure to save some of each payment if you can. Benefits don't last forever and job hunting can take longer than expected.

•Yeah I'm definitely planning to be careful with the money. Hopefully I'll find something soon.

The Washington ESD website also shows your payment history once you start getting them. You can track when each payment was issued and when it should hit your account.

•I'll definitely keep an eye on that. Thanks for all the helpful info everyone!

Last piece of advice - keep filing those weekly claims even if you start working part time. You might still qualify for partial benefits depending on how much you earn.

•That's good to know for when I hopefully start finding some work. I'll make sure to report everything accurately.

•Exactly, always be honest about your work and earnings. It's not worth the risk of an overpayment investigation.

Update us tomorrow and let us know if your payment came through! And remember, if you ever need to reach Washington ESD for any issues, that Claimyr service I mentioned earlier really does work well.

•Will do! Hopefully everything goes smoothly and I won't need to call anyone. But good to know there's an option if I do need help.

I've been on Washington ESD unemployment for about 6 months now and can confirm what everyone else is saying - Tuesday night/Wednesday morning is pretty much the standard. I file my weekly claim every Sunday by 11pm and the money hits my account Wednesday morning around 8am. The only times it's been different was during holiday weeks when it got pushed to Thursday. Just make sure you keep track of your job search activities and report any work accurately. The system is actually pretty reliable once you get used to the timing!

•That's really helpful to know about the 8am timing! I've been wondering what time of day to expect it. The holiday delay is good to keep in mind too since we're coming up on some holidays soon. Thanks for sharing your experience - it's reassuring to hear from someone who's been through this for a while.
