Washington ESD shows paid but no money received - what's going on?
Filed my weekly claim on Sunday and Washington ESD website shows it was processed and marked as 'paid' but it's Thursday and I still haven't gotten any money. My direct deposit info is correct and hasn't changed. This is really stressing me out because I need to pay rent. Has anyone else had their claim show paid on the Washington ESD site but not actually receive the funds? How long should I wait before calling?

This happens sometimes with Washington ESD - there can be a delay between when they mark it paid and when the money actually hits your account. Usually takes 1-2 business days after the 'paid' status appears. Check if you have any holds or pending issues on your account.

•I checked and don't see any holds or issues listed. Just shows all my recent claims as paid. Really hoping it's just a processing delay.

•Same thing happened to me last month - showed paid on Wednesday but didn't get the deposit until Friday. Banking systems can be slow.

Check your payment method in your Washington ESD account. Sometimes there are issues with direct deposit info that aren't obvious. Also verify your bank account number and routing number are correct. If you switched banks recently that could be the problem.

•I double-checked everything and it all looks right. Same account I've been using for months. Really frustrated right now.

•Did you check if your bank is holding the deposit for some reason? Sometimes they flag unemployment deposits as suspicious.

Ugh this is so frustrating when you're depending on that money! I had a similar issue and ended up having to call Washington ESD. Getting through is impossible though - I tried calling like 50 times over 3 days. Eventually found this service called Claimyr that helped me get through to an actual person at claimyr.com. They have a video demo showing how it works at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ. Worth checking out if you can't get through on your own.

•Never heard of Claimyr before but at this point I'm willing to try anything. The Washington ESD phone system is a nightmare.

•How much does that service cost? Seems like we shouldn't have to pay extra just to talk to Washington ESD.

•I get the frustration but honestly it was worth it for me. Saved me hours of calling and got my issue resolved same day.

Before paying for anything, try calling Washington ESD first thing in the morning right at 8am. That's when you have the best chance of getting through. If your claim really shows paid but you haven't received money after 3 business days, that's definitely something they need to look into.

•I've tried calling at 8am multiple times and either get busy signal or sit on hold for hours before getting disconnected. It's ridiculous.

•Same experience here. The hold times are insane and then you get disconnected anyway. So frustrating when you need help.

Check if Washington ESD sent you a debit card instead of direct deposit. Sometimes they switch payment methods without telling you clearly. Look for any mail from them or check if they mention anything about a ReliaCard.

•I haven't gotten any mail about a debit card and I've been getting direct deposit fine until now. This is so confusing.

•They usually send a letter if they're switching your payment method. Check your Washington ESD messages online too.

Another thing to check - log into your Washington ESD account and look at the payment history section. It should show the exact date and method they used to send your payment. If it shows ACH/direct deposit with a recent date, then the issue is probably on the banking side.

Luca Romano
•Good idea, I'll check that section. Didn't even know there was a detailed payment history view.

Nia Jackson
•Yeah that payment history section is really helpful. Shows you exactly when Washington ESD sent the payment and what method they used.

This is exactly why I hate depending on unemployment! The stress of not knowing when you'll actually get paid is terrible. I've been lucky so far but hearing stories like this makes me so anxious about my own claims.

•I feel you. It's awful having to worry about whether your unemployment will actually show up when you need it for bills.

Luca Romano
•Right? I shouldn't have to wonder if I'll be able to pay rent just because their system says paid but no money comes through.

Update on my Claimyr experience - they actually helped me figure out that Washington ESD had an old bank account on file that I thought I'd updated. The rep was able to fix it right away. Might be worth trying if you keep having issues getting through to them directly.

•That's exactly the kind of issue that's impossible to figure out without talking to someone. Glad you got it sorted out.

•How long did it take from when you used Claimyr to when you actually got connected to Washington ESD?

•They got me through to a rep within about 20 minutes. Way better than the hours I spent trying to call myself.

Sometimes banks hold unemployment deposits for up to 24-48 hours, especially if it's a large amount or if you haven't been getting regular deposits. Call your bank too, not just Washington ESD.

Luca Romano
•That's a really good point. I'll call my bank tomorrow morning to see if they're holding it for any reason.

•Yeah banks can be weird about unemployment deposits. Mine held my first one for 3 days while they 'verified' it.

If Washington ESD shows paid but you don't receive the money within 5 business days, that's definitely a problem that needs to be escalated. Keep documenting everything - screenshots of the paid status, your bank account, etc.

Luca Romano
•Good advice about documenting everything. I'll start taking screenshots of my account status and bank statements.

•Definitely keep records. Washington ESD sometimes asks for proof of what you're seeing on your end when there are payment issues.

Has anyone else noticed Washington ESD payment delays getting worse lately? Seems like there are more issues than there used to be.

•I've seen a few people mention delays on here recently. Maybe it's a systemic issue they're having.

Yuki Ito
•Wouldn't surprise me. Their whole system seems to have problems pretty regularly.

One more thing to try - check if you have any pending identity verification requirements. Sometimes Washington ESD will mark claims as paid but hold the actual payment if there are ID issues they haven't told you about clearly.
0 coins
Luca Romano
•I don't see any ID verification requests in my account but I'll double-check all the sections to make sure I'm not missing anything.
0 coins
Nia Jackson
•Yeah those ID verification holds can be hidden in weird places in the system. Worth checking thoroughly.

This whole thread is making me paranoid about my own claims! Going to go check my payment status right now just to be safe.

Mateo Hernandez
•Same here! Better to check now than wait until you need the money to realize there's a problem.

Luca Romano
•Yeah definitely stay on top of it. I wish I had checked sooner instead of just assuming everything was fine.

For anyone else having trouble getting through to Washington ESD about payment issues, I really can't recommend Claimyr enough. They specialize in helping people get connected to unemployment offices when the regular phone lines aren't working. Saved me so much time and stress.

Yuki Ito
•Starting to think this might be my only option. The regular Washington ESD lines are just impossible.

Carmen Lopez
•How does Claimyr actually work? Do they have some special way to get through or do they just keep trying for you?

Ethan Taylor
•They have strategies for getting through the busy phone systems. Check out their video demo - it explains how they do it better than I can.

Hope you get this sorted out soon! Payment delays are the worst when you're already stressed about money. Keep us updated on what you find out.

•Thanks for all the advice everyone. I'm going to try calling my bank first thing tomorrow and then try to get through to Washington ESD if that doesn't solve it.

Nia Jackson
•Good plan. Bank first, then Washington ESD if needed. Hope it's just a simple banking delay and resolves itself.

Just want to say this forum is so helpful for unemployment issues. Way better than trying to figure things out alone when Washington ESD's website doesn't explain anything clearly.

CosmicCruiser
•Totally agree. The Washington ESD website is terrible at explaining what's actually going on when there are problems.

Luca Romano
•Yeah I'm really grateful for everyone's help here. Makes me feel less alone in dealing with this stuff.

Quick question - when Washington ESD shows 'paid', does that mean they've sent the money or that they've approved it to be sent? I've always wondered about the exact timing.
0 coins
Nia Jackson
•Good question. From what I understand, 'paid' means they've initiated the payment to your bank. But there can still be delays on the banking side.
0 coins
CosmicCruiser
•Right, 'paid' status means Washington ESD has released the funds. After that it's up to the banking system to get it to your account.

This is making me think I should set up alerts with my bank so I know right away when deposits come through instead of just hoping they show up.
0 coins
Aisha Khan
•That's actually a really good idea. Most banks have mobile alerts you can set up for any deposits over a certain amount.
0 coins
Luca Romano
•Yeah I'm definitely going to set up deposit alerts after this. Would have saved me a lot of stress if I'd known exactly when to expect the money.

Just checked my Washington ESD account and everything looks normal, thank goodness. But now I'm going to be paranoid every week that this could happen to me too.

Mateo Hernandez
•I think we all get a little paranoid about unemployment payments. Too much depends on them working properly.
0 coins
Luca Romano
•At least you're staying on top of it. I got complacent and that's probably why I didn't notice the problem sooner.

Final thought - if this turns out to be a Washington ESD system issue rather than a banking issue, definitely file a complaint with them. Payment delays affect people's ability to pay bills and they need to know when their system isn't working properly.
0 coins
Luca Romano
•Good point. If it's on their end I'll definitely file a complaint. This kind of delay is unacceptable when people depend on these payments.
0 coins
CosmicCruiser
•Agreed. The more people report these issues, the more likely Washington ESD is to actually fix the underlying problems.
