How long does it take for Washington ESD unemployment direct deposit to show up?

I just filed my weekly claim yesterday and it says 'paid' on my eServices account but I haven't seen the money hit my bank account yet. This is my third week claiming and the first two times I think it took different amounts of time. Does anyone know how long Washington ESD direct deposit usually takes? I'm stressing because rent is due Friday and I need to know when to expect it.

Usually takes 1-2 business days after your claim shows 'paid' status. Since you filed yesterday, if it processed same day you should see it today or tomorrow. Check your eServices account to make sure the payment actually went through - sometimes there are delays in processing.

Yeah it definitely says paid on eServices. I bank with Chase, does that make a difference?

Shouldn't matter which bank. Most banks process ACH deposits overnight, so if Washington ESD sent it yesterday you should see it by end of business today.

mine always comes on tuesdays if i file sunday night. been pretty consistent for me

That's good to know! I filed Monday evening so maybe I'll see it Wednesday?

Wait, are you saying you get paid the same day every week? Mine seems random.

The timing can vary depending on when you submit your weekly claim and when Washington ESD processes it. Generally it's 1-3 business days from when your claim shows 'paid' status. If you're having trouble getting through to check your claim status or need to speak with someone at Washington ESD about payment timing, I had success using Claimyr (claimyr.com) - they helped me get through to an actual agent when I couldn't reach anyone myself.

Never heard of Claimyr, is that like a service that helps you call?

Fidel Carson

•

Yeah exactly. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works. Basically they keep calling until they get you connected to a real person at Washington ESD.

That sounds too good to be true, how much does it cost?

I've been claiming for 6 months and the deposit timing has been all over the place. Sometimes next day, sometimes 3 days later. Washington ESD says it depends on your bank but I think their system is just inconsistent.

Ugh that's frustrating when you're trying to budget. Do you know if there's a way to check when they actually sent the payment?

0 coins

Xan Dae

•

Not that I know of. The eServices account just shows when it was approved for payment, not when they actually sent it to your bank.

WASHINGTON ESD IS THE WORST WITH TIMING!!! I've had payments take 5 days before and when I called they said it was 'normal processing time' - meanwhile I'm overdrafting my account waiting for money that should have been there days ago!

Did you ever figure out why some took longer than others?

They claimed it was because I filed on different days of the week but that doesn't make sense because I've filed the same day and still had different timing.

The day you file does matter somewhat. Weekend filings might not process until Monday, which could delay the deposit.

I'm new to this whole unemployment thing and I'm so confused about when everything happens. I filed my claim Sunday, it shows paid Monday, but it's now Wednesday and still nothing. Should I be worried?

Dananyl Lear

That's within normal timeframe. Wednesday would be 2 business days which is typical. If you don't see it by Friday then I'd start making calls.

OK thank you. I was starting to panic that I did something wrong.

quick question - does the deposit come from Washington ESD or does it say something else on your bank statement?

mine says 'WA ST ESD' or something like that

Just want to add that if you're having ongoing issues with payment timing or need to verify your direct deposit information is correct, getting through to Washington ESD by phone is really the only way to get definitive answers. I mentioned Claimyr earlier but wanted to emphasize how much it helped me when I was having similar concerns about payment delays.

I might look into that if this becomes a regular problem. Right now I'm just trying to figure out the normal timing.

I used Claimyr last month when my payments stopped coming entirely. Turned out there was an issue with my bank account info that I never would have known about without talking to someone.

For what it's worth, I've found that if you file your weekly claim before noon on Sunday, you usually get paid by Tuesday. If you file later in the week it can take until Thursday or Friday.

That's a good tip! I filed Monday evening so maybe that's why it's taking longer.

I don't think the time of day matters that much, but filing earlier in the week definitely seems to help.

just got my deposit this morning and I filed Sunday night, so about 3 days total

That gives me hope! Maybe mine will show up today.

One thing to keep in mind is that Washington ESD typically processes payments Monday through Friday. So if your claim gets approved on a Friday, you might not see the deposit until the following Tuesday due to weekends and bank processing times.

That makes sense. I think I need to adjust my expectations and not expect same day deposits.

0 coins

Yeah I learned that the hard way when I was new to this. Now I just assume it'll take at least 2 business days and if it comes sooner that's a bonus.

Has anyone ever had a payment that showed 'paid' but then never actually got deposited? I'm worried that could happen to me.

0 coins

Dananyl Lear

•

That's pretty rare but it can happen if there's an issue with your bank account information. Usually Washington ESD will send you a notice if a deposit bounces back.

Good to know. I double checked my direct deposit info and it looks right.

I remember when I first started claiming I would check my bank account like 10 times a day waiting for the deposit lol

Lim Wong

That's literally me right now! I keep refreshing my banking app.

You'll get used to the rhythm eventually. Now I just check once in the morning and once at night.

PRO TIP: Set up text or email alerts with your bank for any deposits. That way you'll know immediately when it hits instead of constantly checking.

Lim Wong

•

Oh that's smart! I'm going to do that right now.

I did this and it's been a game changer. No more obsessive account checking.

UPDATE: Just got my deposit! Filed Monday evening, showed paid Tuesday morning, deposit hit Wednesday afternoon. So about 2 business days total.

Lim Wong

Awesome! That's exactly the timeline I was hoping for. Fingers crossed mine comes today too.

UPDATE: My deposit finally came through this afternoon! Took exactly 2 business days from when it showed 'paid' on eServices. Thanks everyone for the info and reassurance!

Great news! That's right in the normal timeframe.

Glad it worked out! Now you know what to expect for next week.

This thread is super helpful! I'm filing my first claim this weekend and was wondering about the same thing.

0 coins

Lim Wong

•

Yeah definitely expect 1-3 business days and don't panic if it takes the full 3 days. It's normal!

Fidel Carson

•

And remember if you run into any issues or need to speak with Washington ESD about anything, services like Claimyr can help you actually get through to someone on the phone instead of getting hung up on.

thanks for sharing your experience OP, this stuff is always stressful when you're relying on the money

0 coins

Lim Wong

•

Exactly! When rent is due and you're waiting on unemployment it's nerve wracking. At least now I know what to expect.

One more thing - if you ever switch banks make sure to update your direct deposit info in eServices ASAP. I forgot to do that once and it delayed my payment by over a week while they sorted it out.

0 coins

Lim Wong

•

Good reminder! I'll keep that in mind if I ever change banks.

Nadia Zaldivar

•

How long does it take for the direct deposit change to take effect?

0 coins

Rajan Walker

•

I think they said allow one full payment cycle, so potentially 2 weeks to be safe.
