How long does it take to get unemployment after requesting payment in Washington?
I just submitted my weekly claim on Sunday and I'm wondering how long it typically takes for the money to show up in my account? This is my second week claiming and last week it seemed to take forever. I'm using direct deposit and my bank usually processes things pretty fast. Anyone know the usual timeline for Washington ESD payments to actually hit your account after you file your weekly claim?

It usually takes 2-3 business days after you submit your weekly claim for the payment to show up in your account. Since you filed Sunday, you should see it by Wednesday or Thursday at the latest.

•Thanks! That makes me feel better. I was getting worried something was wrong.

•Yeah that sounds about right, mine usually comes Wednesday afternoon

Mine has been taking 4-5 days lately which is really frustrating when you're counting on that money for bills. Not sure if Washington ESD is just slower than usual or what.

•If it's taking longer than usual, there might be an issue with your claim that needs to be resolved. Have you checked your account for any pending issues?

•I've checked and don't see anything flagged. It's just been slower for some reason.

I had a really hard time getting through to Washington ESD when my payments were delayed a few weeks ago. Kept calling the customer service line but couldn't get past the busy signal. Found this service called Claimyr that actually helped me get connected to a real person. They have a website at claimyr.com and there's a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works. Ended up being super helpful for figuring out why my payments were stuck.

•Never heard of that service before. Did they charge you for it?

•Yeah there's a fee but honestly it was worth it to actually talk to someone instead of calling for hours and getting nowhere. Plus they figured out the issue pretty quickly.

•Interesting, might have to check that out if I run into issues again

Just to clarify the timeline for everyone - Washington ESD processes weekly claims Monday through Wednesday typically. If you file Sunday, they process it Monday or Tuesday, then it takes 1-2 business days to reach your bank account. So Wednesday-Thursday is the normal range for payments.

•This is super helpful, thank you for breaking it down!

•What if you file later in the week? Like if I miss Sunday can I still file Monday?

Adrian Connor
•Yes you can file late but it might delay your payment by a day or two. Try to file by Wednesday at the latest for that week's payment.

Make sure your direct deposit info is correct in your Washington ESD account. I had a typo in my routing number and it took weeks to figure out why my payments weren't coming through.

•Good point, I'll double check that right now

•How do you update that info if it's wrong?

•Log into your account and go to payment method settings. You can change it there but it might take a few days to take effect.

I've been getting mine pretty consistently on Wednesday mornings. Direct deposit with Chase bank.

•I have Chase too so hopefully mine will be similar timing

Just want to add that if your payment is taking longer than a week something is definitely wrong and you should contact Washington ESD. Don't just wait and hope it shows up.

•Agreed, a week is way too long. There's probably an adjudication issue or something that needs to be cleared up.

•What's adjudication? My claim has been saying that for like 2 weeks now

Felicity Bud
•Adjudication means they're reviewing something about your claim before they can approve payments. Could be job separation issues, eligibility questions, etc.

Yeah if you're stuck in adjudication definitely try to get through to someone. That's exactly what I used Claimyr for - they helped me get connected when I couldn't reach anyone on my own. Super frustrating to be stuck waiting without knowing what's happening.

•I might have to try that service you mentioned. I've been calling for days with no luck

•The phone system for Washington ESD is just terrible. Always busy or hangs up on you

Does the payment amount include the federal tax withholding or is that taken out separately?

Adrian Connor
•If you chose to have taxes withheld when you set up your claim, it's already taken out of the payment amount you receive.

•Ok good to know, thanks

Been on unemployment for 6 months now and the payments are pretty reliable once you get into the routine. Usually Wednesday or Thursday for me.

•That's reassuring to hear from someone who's been doing it longer

•6 months wow, are you still looking for work or what's the situation?

•Yeah still job searching, market is tough right now. Making sure I log all my job search activities for Washington ESD requirements.

One thing to watch out for - if you work any hours during the week make sure you report it accurately on your weekly claim or it can mess up your payment timing.

•I haven't worked any hours yet but good to keep in mind

•Yeah I forgot to report some part time hours once and it flagged my claim for review

The waiting is always the worst part especially when you're counting on that money. But once you get into the pattern it becomes pretty predictable.

•Yeah I'm sure I'll get used to it, just nervous as a first timer

Check if your bank has any delays on their end too. Some banks hold ACH deposits longer than others.

•Good point, I'll call them if it doesn't show up by Thursday

Washington ESD really needs to update their whole system. Everything takes forever and the website is confusing as hell.

If anyone else is having trouble getting through on the phone, that Claimyr thing someone mentioned earlier actually worked for me too. Got connected within like 10 minutes when I'd been trying to call for days on my own.

•There's a fee but honestly worth it when you need answers and can't get through any other way. Check out their video demo to see how it works.

Just be patient OP, the money will come. I was stressed about it my first few weeks too but it's been consistent since then.

Make sure you keep filing your weekly claims even if payments are delayed. Don't skip weeks or you'll lose those benefits.

Felix Grigori
•Definitely, I plan to keep filing every week regardless

•This is important - I know someone who stopped filing thinking their claim was messed up and lost weeks of benefits
