How long after certifying for unemployment will I get paid Washington ESD?

Just submitted my weekly claim certification yesterday through the Washington ESD website and I'm wondering when I should expect to see the payment hit my account. This is only my second week claiming and I'm still figuring out the timing. My first payment took forever but I think that was because of the initial processing. For regular weekly claims, how long does it usually take after you certify before the money shows up? I have direct deposit set up if that makes a difference.

Usually takes 2-3 business days after you certify if everything is clean on your claim. Since you have direct deposit that should speed things up compared to getting a check mailed.

That's a relief, thanks! I was worried it would take a week or more like the first payment did.

0 coins

Yeah the first payment always takes longer because they have to verify everything. After that it's pretty routine.

Mine usually hits my account on Wednesday if I certify on Sunday. But if there's any issues with your weekly claim it can get held up in adjudication.

What kind of issues would hold it up? I answered all the questions honestly about not working and being available.

Sometimes if you report any work or earnings, even part-time stuff, it can flag for review. Or if you answer the availability questions differently than before.

I've been dealing with Washington ESD payment delays for months and honestly the best thing I found was using Claimyr to actually get through to someone when payments were stuck. Their system at claimyr.com helped me bypass all the busy signals and actually talk to an agent who could tell me exactly what was holding up my payments. There's a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works.

How much does that cost? I can't afford to pay extra just to talk to someone about my own benefits.

It's way cheaper than missing rent because your payment is stuck in the system for weeks. The peace of mind alone was worth it for me.

I looked into this too when my payments kept getting delayed. Sometimes you really do need to talk to a human to get things moving.

Wednesday or Thursday is normal for me. I certify sunday night and money hits wednesday morning usually

Perfect, that matches what others are saying. Thanks for confirming!

The timing depends on when you certify during the week too. If you certify on Sunday the payment usually processes faster than if you wait until Saturday to certify. Washington ESD processes payments in batches throughout the week.

I always wait until the last minute to certify and my payments still come through fine. Don't think it makes much difference.

You're right that they'll still process it, but I've noticed faster processing when I certify early in the week. Could just be coincidence though.

I'll try to certify earlier next week and see if I notice any difference in timing.

Been on unemployment for 8 months now and the payment timing is pretty consistent. 2-3 days after certifying unless something gets flagged. Make sure you're keeping track of your job search activities because that's what usually causes delays.

I've been logging my job searches in WorkSourceWA like they require. How many do you need to do per week?

StarStrider

Three job search activities per week unless you're on standby or have some other exemption. And make sure they're legitimate searches, not just browsing job sites.

The whole system is a mess honestly. Sometimes payments are fast, sometimes they take forever, sometimes they just stop for no reason and you have to call fifty times to get someone who can help.

0 coins

This is exactly why services like Claimyr exist. The phone system at Washington ESD is basically broken.

I tried calling for three weeks straight when my payments stopped. Could never get through.

That's the exact situation where Claimyr saved me hours of frustration. Got through to an agent in minutes instead of spending days redialing.

If your claim is in adjudication for any reason payments will be delayed until that's resolved. Check your account on the Washington ESD website to see if there are any issues listed.

Just checked and everything looks normal. No issues or holds listed on my account.

Then you should be good for the normal 2-3 day timeframe. Keep an eye on it and if it doesn't show up by Friday I'd start making calls.

Direct deposit definitely speeds things up compared to debit card or check. I switched to direct deposit after waiting forever for my debit card to arrive.

How do you switch to direct deposit? I'm still getting the debit card and it's annoying.

You can change it in your account settings on the Washington ESD website. Just need your bank account and routing number.

Tuesday through Thursday is when most payments hit. Depends on your bank too - some process faster than others.

I bank with a credit union so hopefully they're quick about processing it.

I had one payment take over a week because I accidentally answered one of the weekly claim questions wrong. Had to call to get it straightened out but of course could never get through on the phone.

0 coins

Which question did you answer wrong? I'm always paranoid I'm going to mess something up.

0 coins

The one about being able and available to work. I clicked no by mistake when I meant yes. Took forever to fix.

0 coins

This is another perfect example of when you need to actually talk to someone at Washington ESD. Claimyr would have saved you days of calling.

Watch out for holidays too. If there's a federal holiday during the week it can delay payments by an extra day or two.

0 coins

Luca Ferrari

•

Good point, I didn't think about that. No holidays this week though so should be normal timing.

The waiting is the worst part honestly. You're already stressed about money and then you have to sit there hoping the payment comes through on time.

0 coins

Exactly! And you can't plan anything because you never know if there's going to be some random delay.

Luca Ferrari

•

That's exactly how I'm feeling right now. Just want some predictability with the timing.

0 coins

Most people see payments within 48-72 hours after certifying. If it goes beyond that, something is probably wrong and you need to contact Washington ESD.

And good luck actually reaching them on the phone. The customer service is terrible.

0 coins

True, the phone system is frustrating. That's why services like Claimyr are becoming so popular - they actually help you get through to someone.

Wednesday morning is when mine usually hits if I certify on Sunday. Very consistent timing for me.

Luca Ferrari

That seems to be the most common timing people are mentioning. Hopefully mine follows the same pattern.

Just remember that even one small mistake on your weekly claim can cause delays. Double check everything before you submit it.

Luca Ferrari

•

I'll definitely be more careful. Better to take an extra minute to review than deal with payment delays.

0 coins

Yep, learned that lesson the hard way when I reported my earnings wrong one week.
