One thing that helped me was actually going to a WorkSource office in person when I had questions about eligibility. The staff there can help you understand the requirements and even help you file your initial claim if needed.
Bottom line - if you worked and paid taxes in Washington state, lost your job through no fault of your own, and can work, you probably qualify. Don't let uncertainty stop you from applying. Let Washington ESD make the official determination.
tbh the system has gotten better since covid. used to be way worse. still not perfect but definitely more manageable now
This whole thread is making me grateful I never had to deal with unemployment. Sounds like a nightmare system for people who need help the most.
Final update for anyone following - found a part-time job that lets me keep some unemployment benefits. Still not ideal but better than the $156/week I was looking at. Thanks everyone for the advice and support!
Been through this process twice now and it gets easier each time. First time was overwhelming but now I know exactly what to expect.

Update your thread when you hear back! I always like to know how long it actually took for people in similar situations. It helps set expectations for others going through the same thing.

In the meantime, make sure you're taking care of other things like health insurance if you lost coverage through your employer. COBRA deadlines can sneak up on you while you're focused on unemployment benefits.

•Good reminder! I need to look into my COBRA options. Thanks for thinking of that.
