The Washington ESD customer service is hit or miss but when you do get through to someone knowledgeable, they can be really helpful. I had a complex situation with my previous employer and the agent walked me through exactly what documentation I needed and how to submit it.
Bottom line - start with the basics and don't overthink it. File your weekly claims on time, do your job searches, keep records, and respond quickly to any requests from Washington ESD. Most people make it way more complicated than it needs to be.
This thread should be pinned or something. So much good info about quitting and UI eligibility that I've never seen explained this clearly anywhere else.
Update: I talked to a lawyer today and they said my case sounds pretty strong given the hour reduction and safety issues. Going to document everything for another week then probably give my notice. Thanks again everyone!
Awesome! Hope everything works out for you. And remember about Claimyr if you need to reach Washington ESD during the process.
Just remember that even one small mistake on your weekly claim can cause delays. Double check everything before you submit it.
Also try to have patience with the system - Washington ESD processes a lot of claims and sometimes things take longer than expected. But if you need to talk to someone, definitely don't waste time on hold all day when there are better options available.
Agreed, I'll definitely look into that Claimyr service if I can't get through the regular way.

For anyone still struggling with getting through to Washington ESD, I'll throw in another vote for that Claimyr thing someone mentioned. Used it last month when my claim got stuck and I needed to talk to someone. Way better than the regular phone runaround.

•Hope it works out for you! The Washington ESD phone system is brutal but there are ways around it.

The waiting week is just one of those things you have to deal with when filing for unemployment in Washington. It sucks but complaining about it won't change anything. Focus on your job search and meeting the requirements so you can get paid as soon as possible after the waiting period.

•Exactly! Just because something is policy doesn't mean it's good policy.

•Fair enough, I just meant don't let the frustration distract from doing what you need to do to get through the process.
