Washington ESD federal unemployment benefit amounts - how much can I expect?
I'm trying to figure out how much I'll get from Washington ESD for unemployment benefits. I know there's a state portion but I keep hearing about federal additions too. My last job paid $65,000 annually and I worked there for 2 years before getting laid off. Does anyone know what the current federal unemployment amount is on top of the regular Washington state benefits? I'm getting conflicting info online about whether there are still any federal supplements in 2025.

The federal supplements like the extra $600 and $300 weekly ended in 2021. Now you just get your regular Washington ESD benefit which is calculated from your wages in your base year. For $65k annually you're probably looking at around $650-750 per week maximum depending on your exact wage history.

•Thanks! So there's no federal money added anymore? Just the state calculation?

•Correct, just your regular UI benefit calculated by Washington ESD from your base year wages.

•The regular unemployment system is jointly funded by state and federal taxes, but there's no extra federal money being added to individual benefit amounts anymore. The pandemic programs ended.

I've been trying to get through to Washington ESD for weeks to ask about this same thing. Their phone lines are impossible! Anyone have luck getting actual answers from them?

•I had the same problem until I found this service called Claimyr at claimyr.com - they actually got me connected to a real Washington ESD agent in under 30 minutes. There's a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ showing how it works. Made all the difference for getting my benefit amount questions answered directly.

•Really? That sounds too good to be true but I'm desperate at this point.

•I was skeptical too but it actually worked. Way better than sitting on hold for hours just to get disconnected.

Your weekly benefit amount in Washington is calculated as 3.85% of your average quarterly wages during your base year, up to the maximum of $999 per week in 2025. With your $65k salary you should qualify for close to the maximum amount.

•That's helpful! So around $950+ per week potentially? That would definitely help with bills.

•Don't forget you still have to pay taxes on unemployment benefits though

•Good point, I'll need to factor that in for budgeting

THE WHOLE SYSTEM IS A MESS!!! I've been waiting 6 weeks for my claim to be processed and they keep saying 'adjudication in progress' with no timeline. Meanwhile I can't pay my rent!

•Adjudication delays are really common right now. Have you tried contacting them about the status?

•TRIED CALLING A MILLION TIMES! Always busy or they hang up on me!

•This is exactly why I used Claimyr - got through immediately and they explained my adjudication issue was just a routine verification that took 5 minutes to resolve once I actually talked to someone.

Just wanted to confirm - there really aren't any federal unemployment bonuses anymore right? My neighbor keeps insisting there's still extra money available.

•Your neighbor is thinking of the pandemic programs. All federal supplement programs (FPUC, PUA, PEUC) ended by September 2021.

•That's what I thought. Thanks for confirming!

For someone making 65k, you'll probably get around $750-850 weekly after taxes are taken out. Remember unemployment is taxable income at both state and federal levels.

•Should I have taxes withheld automatically or pay quarterly?

Elliott luviBorBatman
•I'd recommend having 10% withheld to avoid a big tax bill next year

been on unemployment 3 times over the years and the amount is always based on what you made in your base year quarters. no federal extras since covid ended

I'm in a similar situation - laid off from a 70k job. My benefit amount shows as $892 weekly on my Washington ESD account. No federal additions, just the state calculation.

•That's really helpful to see an actual example! Sounds like I should expect something similar.

The Washington ESD website has a benefit calculator if you want to estimate your amount before filing. Just search 'unemployment benefit calculator' on their site.

Quick question - do federal taxes get withheld automatically or do I need to request it?

Cynthia Love
•You need to request tax withholding when you file your claim or log into your account and update your tax preferences.

Gemma Andrews
•Thanks! I'll make sure to set that up.

I remember getting an extra $300 weekly during covid but that definitely ended. Now it's just your regular state benefit amount.

•Yeah that's what I'm understanding now. Just the regular Washington calculation.

With your salary level you should get close to the maximum. Just make sure you're filing your weekly claims on time every week to keep getting paid.

•Have you tried that Claimyr service? I saw someone mention it earlier and checked out their video demo - looks like it might actually work for getting through to Washington ESD agents.

The maximum weekly benefit in Washington is $999 in 2025. You'll probably qualify for close to that amount with a 65k salary.

•That would be amazing if I qualify for close to the max! Fingers crossed.

Just remember there's usually a one week waiting period before you start receiving benefits, so plan accordingly for your first week.

•Good point! I forgot about the waiting week. Thanks for the heads up.

Bottom line: No federal supplements anymore, just your regular Washington ESD benefit calculated from your wages. With 65k you should get a decent weekly amount.
