How to request weekly unemployment benefits in Washington ESD system?
I just got approved for unemployment after waiting 3 weeks for adjudication and now I'm confused about how to actually request my weekly benefits. The Washington ESD website mentions weekly claims but I can't find where to submit them. Do I need to do this every week? What happens if I miss a week? I'm worried about messing something up and losing my benefits.

You need to file your weekly claim every week to get paid. Log into your SecureAccess Washington (SAW) account and look for 'Submit Weekly Claim' or 'File Weekly Claim.' It's usually right on the main dashboard after you log in.

•Thank you! I see it now. Is there a specific day I need to file it or can I do it anytime during the week?

•You can file starting Sunday for the previous week. Most people do it Sunday morning but you have until Saturday night. Don't wait too long though.

make sure you answer all the questions honestly about any work you did that week and if you were available for work. even if you worked just a few hours you need to report it

•What if I had a doctor's appointment one day? Do I need to report that as not being available?

•No, medical appointments don't count as unavailable for work. You're still considered able and available as long as you could work around the appointment.

I've been trying to get through to Washington ESD for weeks about my weekly claims showing as pending. The phone system is impossible! Has anyone found a way to actually talk to someone there?

•I was having the same problem until I found this service called Claimyr. They help you get through to Washington ESD agents without waiting on hold forever. Check out claimyr.com - they even have a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ showing how it works.

•Really? That sounds too good to be true. How does it actually work?

•They basically handle the calling and waiting for you, then connect you when an agent is available. I used it last month when my claim got stuck and was able to resolve everything in one call.

The weekly claim process is straightforward once you get used to it. Make sure you keep track of any job search activities too since Washington ESD requires 3 job contacts per week.

•Wait, I need to do job searches every week? Nobody told me that when I filed my initial claim.

•Yes, you need to log 3 job search activities per week in WorkSourceWA unless you're on standby with your employer. It's a requirement to keep receiving benefits.

•this is why the system is broken, too many hoops to jump through just to get benefits you already earned

Here's the step-by-step process: 1) Log into SAW every Sunday 2) Click 'Submit Weekly Claim' 3) Answer questions about work performed, earnings, and availability 4) Submit before midnight Saturday 5) Payment processes Tuesday if everything is correct.

•This is super helpful, thank you! How long does it usually take for the payment to show up in my account?

•If you have direct deposit set up, it's usually there by Wednesday. Debit card takes an extra day or two.

I missed filing my weekly claim one week because I was sick. Now it shows I have a gap in my claims. Can I still get paid for that week?

•You might be able to backdate it if you have good cause. Call Washington ESD and explain the situation - being sick is usually considered good cause for missing a filing deadline.

•I've been trying to call for days but can never get through. The phone system just hangs up on me after 30 minutes of waiting.

•Try Claimyr for getting through to Washington ESD. It saved me so much time and frustration when I had a similar issue with missed weeks.

dont forget to keep all your records of weekly claims filed in case they audit you later. ive heard horror stories of people having to pay back benefits because they couldnt prove they filed correctly

•How do I keep records? Should I take screenshots?

Jason Brewer
•screenshots work, or you can print the confirmation page after you submit each week

The system usually lets you know if there are any issues with your weekly claim. If it goes to 'Under Review' status, that means something triggered a flag and it might take longer to process.

•What kinds of things trigger a review?

Emma Olsen
•Reporting work and earnings, being unavailable for work certain days, not completing job search requirements, or random quality assurance reviews.

Makayla Shoemaker
•basically anything can trigger it, the whole system is designed to make it hard to get benefits

Pro tip: file your weekly claim at the same time every week so you don't forget. I do mine every Sunday at 8am with my coffee.

•That's a great idea! I'll set a reminder on my phone.

•Same here, routine is key. I also keep a little notebook with my job search activities so I don't have to scramble to remember what I did each week.

Make sure your address and phone number are updated in the system before filing weekly claims. If Washington ESD needs to contact you about something and can't reach you, it can delay or stop your payments.

•Good point, I recently moved so I should double-check that information.

•You can update it through your SAW account under personal information. Make sure to do it ASAP if anything has changed.

If you're working part-time while collecting unemployment, make sure you report ALL earnings even if it's just a few dollars. Washington ESD will find out eventually and it's better to be upfront about it.

•How do they calculate how much gets deducted from my benefits if I work part-time?
0 coins
Anita George
•They have a formula - basically you can earn up to a certain amount before they start reducing your weekly benefit. Check the Washington ESD website for the exact calculation.

Abigail Spencer
•i think its like 1/3 of your weekly benefit amount you can earn before deductions start but dont quote me on that

Been filing weekly claims for 8 months now and the key is just being consistent and honest. The system actually works pretty well once you understand the routine.

•That's encouraging to hear! I was getting overwhelmed by all the requirements.

•It definitely seems complicated at first but becomes second nature after a few weeks. Just take it one week at a time.

What happens if the website is down when I try to file my weekly claim? This happened to me last Sunday and I was panicking.

Kiara Fisherman
•The system has maintenance windows sometimes but they usually extend the deadline if there are widespread technical issues. Try again later in the day or early Monday.

•Ok good to know. I ended up filing it Monday morning and it went through fine.

remember you need to keep filing weekly claims even if your payment is delayed or under review. if you stop filing you'll lose benefits for those weeks even if the delay wasnt your fault

Kylo Ren
•That's important to know! So I should keep filing even if I'm not getting paid while something is being resolved?
0 coins
Miles Hammonds
•exactly, keep filing no matter what. you can always get back pay for weeks you were eligible but you cant get benefits for weeks you didnt file

The mobile version of the SAW website works pretty well for filing weekly claims if you're not near a computer. I've filed from my phone several times without issues.

If you get an error message when trying to file your weekly claim, write down the exact error code and message. Washington ESD customer service will need that information to help you.

•Haven't had any errors yet but I'll remember that if it happens.

•Speaking of customer service, has anyone actually gotten through to them recently? I've been trying for weeks.

•Seriously, try Claimyr. I mentioned it earlier but it really does work for getting through to Washington ESD agents quickly.

One more thing - if you're on standby with your employer, the weekly claim process is a bit different. You don't need to do job searches but you still need to report if your employer offered you any work that week.

•I'm not on standby but good to know for others who might be reading this.

•Yeah standby is nice because no job search requirements but you're at the mercy of when your employer calls you back.
