How to delete unemployment claim and start over with Washington ESD
Made some mistakes on my initial UI application and now I'm getting conflicting information from Washington ESD about my work history. Is there any way to completely delete my current claim and file a brand new one? I'd rather start fresh than try to fix all the errors through the appeals process. Has anyone successfully done this?

You can't really 'delete' an unemployment claim once it's submitted to Washington ESD, but you might be able to withdraw it and file a new one depending on your situation. What kind of mistakes are we talking about?

•I put wrong dates for my last employer and mixed up some wage information. Now they're asking for verification documents I don't have.

•Those are definitely fixable through the standard correction process rather than starting over completely.

i tried this same thing last year and Washington ESD told me once you submit the initial claim theres no going back, you have to work within their system to make corrections

•That's frustrating. Did you eventually get it sorted out?

•yeah but it took forever, had to submit like 5 different documents

Before you go down the rabbit hole of trying to withdraw and refile, have you tried actually calling Washington ESD to discuss your options? Sometimes they can make corrections on their end that are faster than the appeals process. I know getting through is tough though - I used Claimyr.com recently to get connected to an actual agent and it worked great. There's a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works.

•I've been trying to call for weeks but can never get through. How does that Claimyr thing work exactly?

•It basically handles the calling and waiting for you, then connects you when an agent is available. Saved me hours of trying to get through the busy signals.

•Never heard of that service but sounds interesting. Is it legit?

The Washington ESD system is designed to handle corrections through their existing processes. You'll need to submit a written request explaining the errors and provide supporting documentation. Completely starting over is rarely necessary and can actually delay your benefits longer.

•Do you know what form I need to submit for corrections?

Rudy Cenizo
•There isn't one specific form - you'll need to write a letter explaining each error and attach proof. Send it through SecureAccess Washington or mail it to your local WorkSource office.

OMG I'm in the EXACT same situation! Filed my claim three weeks ago and realized I got my quit date wrong by like 2 months. Now I'm panicking that they'll think I was trying to commit fraud or something. This whole system is so confusing!

•Right?? I'm so worried they'll think I was being dishonest when really I just got overwhelmed filling it out.

•Honest mistakes happen all the time. As long as you're proactive about correcting them, Washington ESD won't assume fraud.

•That's reassuring, thank you. I've been losing sleep over this.

Been dealing with Washington ESD for 15+ years and let me tell you - trying to withdraw and refile is like jumping from the frying pan into the fire. You'll end up at the back of the processing queue and lose weeks of potential benefits. Better to fix what you have.

•That makes sense. I guess I'm just frustrated with how complicated the correction process seems.

•I get it, but trust me on this one. The correction route is always faster even when it feels slow.

just went through this myself last month. called washington esd using that claimyr service someone mentioned above and the agent was actually super helpful. she walked me through exactly what documents i needed to fix my wage discrepancy and it only took about 10 days to process once i submitted everything

Eve Freeman
•That's encouraging! How much did the Claimyr service cost?

Sienna Gomez
•honestly dont remember the exact amount but it was worth it to not spend hours trying to get through on my own

•The main thing is it actually works - I was skeptical at first but got connected to an agent within 30 minutes.

Here's what you need to know about correcting Washington ESD claims: 1) Submit corrections in writing through your online account, 2) Include specific details about what's wrong and what it should be, 3) Attach any supporting documents, 4) Keep copies of everything you submit. The process typically takes 2-3 weeks if you provide complete information upfront.

•This is super helpful, thank you! Should I keep filing my weekly claims while waiting for the corrections to process?

•Yes, absolutely continue filing weekly claims. Don't let those lapse or you'll create additional problems.

Actually had success getting my claim completely withdrawn and refiled, but it was only because I filed it literally the day before and called immediately. If your claim has been processing for more than a few days, you're probably stuck with the correction process.

•Mine's been submitted for over a week so I guess that ship has sailed.

•Yeah, at that point the correction route is definitely your best bet.

The Washington ESD adjudication process can handle most types of corrections without needing to start over. Even significant errors like wrong employer information or incorrect separation dates can be fixed through their standard procedures. Starting over is almost never the right answer.

•That's reassuring. I was really worried I'd have to wait months for a completely new claim to process.

•Corrections usually take 2-4 weeks vs 6-8 weeks for a new claim, so you're definitely better off fixing what you have.

whatever you do dont try to file a second claim while your first one is still active - that will flag your account for potential fraud and create a huge mess. stick with one claim and get it corrected properly

Eve Freeman
•Good point, I hadn't thought about that. Definitely don't want to trigger any fraud flags.

I see people asking about this all the time and the answer is always the same - work within the system to make corrections rather than trying to start fresh. Washington ESD has processes in place specifically for fixing errors.

•Seems like everyone is giving me the same advice, so I guess that's what I'll do.

Pro tip: when you submit your correction request, be very specific about each error and what the correct information should be. Vague requests like 'please fix my dates' will just result in them asking for more details and delay the process.

•That makes sense. I'll make sure to be super detailed in my explanation.

had to correct my wage information last year and it was actually pretty straightforward once i got connected to someone at washington esd who could explain exactly what they needed. used claimyr to get through and the whole thing was resolved in about 2 weeks

•That's the third person who's mentioned Claimyr working well. I might give it a try.

The correction process isn't as scary as it seems. I've helped several people through it and Washington ESD is generally reasonable about fixing honest mistakes. Just be thorough with your documentation and patient with the timeline.

dont overthink this - just gather your correct information, write a clear explanation of what needs to be fixed, and submit it through your online account. ive seen people spend more time worrying about corrections than actually doing them

Eve Freeman
•You're right, I need to stop overthinking and just get it done.

One thing to keep in mind is that some corrections might affect your benefit amount, so be prepared for that possibility. Better to have the correct (possibly lower) amount than deal with overpayment issues later.

Eve Freeman
•Good point. I'd rather get the right amount from the start than have to pay money back later.

Bottom line: stick with your current claim and go through the correction process. It's faster, easier, and less risky than trying to start over. Most corrections are resolved within a month if you provide complete information upfront.

•Alright, you've all convinced me. I'll gather my documents and submit a correction request this week. Thanks everyone for the advice!
