How long does it take unemployment to kick in after filing Washington ESD claim?

Filed my initial unemployment claim with Washington ESD two weeks ago and still haven't received any payments. My claim shows as 'processed' but I'm not seeing any money in my account yet. Is this normal? How long does it usually take for unemployment benefits to actually start coming through? I'm getting worried because I have bills due and thought this would be faster.

It typically takes 2-3 weeks for your first payment after filing, assuming there are no issues with your claim. Did you complete your initial waiting week?

0 coins

Yeah I filed my first weekly claim right after my initial application. What exactly is the waiting week?

0 coins

The waiting week is the first week you claim - you don't get paid for that week but it's required to establish your claim. So if you filed 2 weeks ago, you should see payment soon.

took me 3 weeks to get my first check, but after that they came weekly like clockwork

0 coins

That's reassuring, thanks! Did you have to do anything special or did it just show up automatically?

0 coins

just kept filing my weekly claims on time, payment showed up on tuesday

If you're having trouble getting through to Washington ESD to check your claim status, I used Claimyr recently and it was a game changer. They help you actually reach a live agent instead of sitting on hold forever. There's a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works.

Interesting, I've been trying to call for days but can never get through. How does Claimyr work exactly?

0 coins

You go to claimyr.com and they basically handle the calling process for you. When they get an agent on the line, they connect you. Way better than sitting on hold for hours.

0 coins

Sounds too good to be true but I'm desperate enough to try anything at this point

Check your claim status online first. If it shows 'Paid' but you haven't received anything, the issue might be with your bank or payment method. If it still shows 'Processed' or 'Pending', there might be an adjudication issue holding things up.

0 coins

It shows 'Processed' but I don't see any payment dates or amounts. Should I be worried?

0 coins

Processed usually means they're still reviewing something. Could be employer response, work search verification, or eligibility confirmation. You should definitely try to speak with someone.

0 coins

This is exactly what happened to me! Turned out my former employer disputed my claim and I had to go through adjudication. Took 6 weeks total.

THE SYSTEM IS BROKEN!! I've been waiting 5 weeks and still NOTHING. Washington ESD is a joke and they don't care about people who actually need help!!!

0 coins

i feel you man, the waiting is brutal when you got bills to pay

0 coins

Have you tried calling? Sometimes there are simple holds that can be resolved quickly with an agent.

0 coins

Called 47 times yesterday and got hung up on every single time. The phone system is designed to keep you out!

0 coins

honestly same situation here, filed 3 weeks ago and radio silence

0 coins

At least I'm not alone! Are you going to try calling or just wait it out?

0 coins

probably gonna try that claimyr thing someone mentioned, sounds easier than calling myself

0 coins

Just to clarify the timeline: Week 1 is your waiting week (no payment), Week 2 is your first payable week, and payment typically processes 2-3 business days after you file your weekly claim. So if you filed your initial claim 2 weeks ago, you should be getting close to your first payment.

0 coins

This is super helpful! So I should expect payment sometime this week if everything is normal?

0 coins

Exactly, assuming your claim doesn't have any holds or issues. Keep filing your weekly claims on time though.

0 coins

What if you miss filing a weekly claim? Does that mess everything up?

0 coins

You can file late claims but it can cause delays. Better to file on time every week to avoid complications.

0 coins

Make sure you're checking the right account! I was looking at my savings account for weeks but they were depositing into my checking account. Felt like an idiot when I figured it out.

0 coins

I've been checking both accounts obsessively so that's not it, but good point!

0 coins

lol this is exactly what my sister did, she was freaking out for nothing

0 coins

Has anyone else noticed they're being super slow with processing lately? I swear it used to be faster before 2024.

0 coins

They're probably still dealing with system updates and staff changes. The whole unemployment system got overhauled recently.

0 coins

Yeah my friend filed in November and it took 4 weeks to get his first payment

0 coins

I got my first payment exactly 21 days after filing my initial claim. Hang in there!

0 coins

That gives me hope! Were you able to track the payment before it showed up in your account?

0 coins

Yeah, it showed 'Paid' status online about 2 days before I actually got the deposit

0 coins

this whole thread is making me anxious about my own claim now... filed last week and was hoping for quick turnaround

0 coins

Don't stress too much, 2-3 weeks is pretty standard. Just keep filing your weekly claims and be patient.

0 coins

yeah dont overthink it, most people get their payments without any issues

0 coins

For what it's worth, I tried Claimyr after seeing it mentioned in another thread and actually got through to an agent in 20 minutes. Found out my claim was held up because of a simple address verification issue. Definitely worth trying if you can't get through the normal way.

0 coins

20 minutes? That's amazing! I've been trying to call for hours with no luck.

0 coins

How much does Claimyr cost? I'm already strapped for cash waiting for unemployment.

0 coins

I'd rather pay a small fee to actually talk to someone than waste days trying to get through for free. But check their website claimyr.com for current info.

0 coins

UPDATE: Just checked my account and finally got my first payment! Took exactly 17 days from when I filed my initial claim. For anyone still waiting, hang in there!

0 coins

Congrats! That gives me hope since I'm right around that timeline too.

0 coins

awesome news! was it the full amount you were expecting?

0 coins

Yeah, got the full weekly benefit amount minus the waiting week. Pretty relieved!

0 coins

this is why i tell everyone to file immediately when they lose their job, dont wait thinking you'll find work quickly

0 coins

So true, I waited 2 weeks thinking I'd get hired somewhere and just made everything worse

0 coins

Yeah I probably should have filed sooner but I was optimistic about job hunting

0 coins

Make sure you're doing your job search activities too! I know some people who got their payments stopped because they weren't keeping up with the work search requirements.

0 coins

Good reminder! I've been applying to jobs but haven't been tracking them properly.

0 coins

Yeah you need to log 3 job search activities per week on WorkSourceWA or they can cut you off

0 coins

wait really? i thought that was just for people on certain programs

0 coins

If you're still having issues next week, definitely try calling or using that Claimyr service people mentioned. Sometimes there are simple holds that agents can clear up instantly.

0 coins

I think I'll give it a few more days and then try Claimyr if nothing shows up. Thanks everyone for the help!

0 coins

good luck! hope you get your payment soon
