How long does it take unemployment to kick in after filing Washington ESD claim?
Filed my initial unemployment claim with Washington ESD two weeks ago and still haven't received any payments. My claim shows as 'processed' but I'm not seeing any money in my account yet. Is this normal? How long does it usually take for unemployment benefits to actually start coming through? I'm getting worried because I have bills due and thought this would be faster.

It typically takes 2-3 weeks for your first payment after filing, assuming there are no issues with your claim. Did you complete your initial waiting week?

•Yeah I filed my first weekly claim right after my initial application. What exactly is the waiting week?

Jamal Washington
•The waiting week is the first week you claim - you don't get paid for that week but it's required to establish your claim. So if you filed 2 weeks ago, you should see payment soon.

took me 3 weeks to get my first check, but after that they came weekly like clockwork

•That's reassuring, thanks! Did you have to do anything special or did it just show up automatically?

If you're having trouble getting through to Washington ESD to check your claim status, I used Claimyr recently and it was a game changer. They help you actually reach a live agent instead of sitting on hold forever. There's a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works.

•Interesting, I've been trying to call for days but can never get through. How does Claimyr work exactly?

•You go to claimyr.com and they basically handle the calling process for you. When they get an agent on the line, they connect you. Way better than sitting on hold for hours.

•Sounds too good to be true but I'm desperate enough to try anything at this point

Check your claim status online first. If it shows 'Paid' but you haven't received anything, the issue might be with your bank or payment method. If it still shows 'Processed' or 'Pending', there might be an adjudication issue holding things up.

•It shows 'Processed' but I don't see any payment dates or amounts. Should I be worried?

•Processed usually means they're still reviewing something. Could be employer response, work search verification, or eligibility confirmation. You should definitely try to speak with someone.

•This is exactly what happened to me! Turned out my former employer disputed my claim and I had to go through adjudication. Took 6 weeks total.

THE SYSTEM IS BROKEN!! I've been waiting 5 weeks and still NOTHING. Washington ESD is a joke and they don't care about people who actually need help!!!

•i feel you man, the waiting is brutal when you got bills to pay

•Have you tried calling? Sometimes there are simple holds that can be resolved quickly with an agent.

•Called 47 times yesterday and got hung up on every single time. The phone system is designed to keep you out!

•At least I'm not alone! Are you going to try calling or just wait it out?

Just to clarify the timeline: Week 1 is your waiting week (no payment), Week 2 is your first payable week, and payment typically processes 2-3 business days after you file your weekly claim. So if you filed your initial claim 2 weeks ago, you should be getting close to your first payment.

•This is super helpful! So I should expect payment sometime this week if everything is normal?
0 coins
Jamal Washington
•Exactly, assuming your claim doesn't have any holds or issues. Keep filing your weekly claims on time though.

•What if you miss filing a weekly claim? Does that mess everything up?

•You can file late claims but it can cause delays. Better to file on time every week to avoid complications.

Make sure you're checking the right account! I was looking at my savings account for weeks but they were depositing into my checking account. Felt like an idiot when I figured it out.

Has anyone else noticed they're being super slow with processing lately? I swear it used to be faster before 2024.

•They're probably still dealing with system updates and staff changes. The whole unemployment system got overhauled recently.

I got my first payment exactly 21 days after filing my initial claim. Hang in there!

•That gives me hope! Were you able to track the payment before it showed up in your account?

•Yeah, it showed 'Paid' status online about 2 days before I actually got the deposit

•Don't stress too much, 2-3 weeks is pretty standard. Just keep filing your weekly claims and be patient.

For what it's worth, I tried Claimyr after seeing it mentioned in another thread and actually got through to an agent in 20 minutes. Found out my claim was held up because of a simple address verification issue. Definitely worth trying if you can't get through the normal way.

•I'd rather pay a small fee to actually talk to someone than waste days trying to get through for free. But check their website claimyr.com for current info.

Make sure you're doing your job search activities too! I know some people who got their payments stopped because they weren't keeping up with the work search requirements.

If you're still having issues next week, definitely try calling or using that Claimyr service people mentioned. Sometimes there are simple holds that agents can clear up instantly.
