How long does it take to get benefits from Washington ESD unemployment - still waiting 3 weeks?
Filed my unemployment claim with Washington ESD about 3 weeks ago and still haven't received any payments. My claim status shows 'under review' and I've been filing my weekly claims like I'm supposed to. I lost my job at a warehouse in Tacoma and really need these benefits to come through soon. Bills are piling up and I'm getting stressed. Is 3 weeks normal for Washington ESD to process claims? How long should I expect to wait before getting my first payment?

The typical processing time for Washington ESD unemployment claims is usually 2-4 weeks for initial approval, but it can take longer if your claim needs adjudication. Since you're at 3 weeks, you're within the normal range. Make sure you keep filing your weekly claims even while waiting - that's crucial for getting back payments once approved.

•Thanks, I've been keeping up with the weekly claims. Just worried something went wrong since it's been so long.

•Yeah definitely keep filing those weekly claims! I made that mistake years ago and lost out on 2 weeks of benefits.

3 weeks is actually pretty fast compared to what I've been hearing lately. My cousin waited almost 6 weeks for her claim to process through Washington ESD. The system is just really backed up right now.

•6 weeks?! That's terrifying. I really can't wait that long financially.

•Was her claim in adjudication? That usually adds extra time to the process.

If you're getting frustrated trying to reach Washington ESD by phone to check on your claim status, I found this service called Claimyr that actually got me through to an agent. They have a system that calls for you and gets you connected - saved me hours of busy signals. Check out claimyr.com and they even have a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ showing how it works.

•Interesting, I haven't been able to get through to anyone at Washington ESD on the phone. How much does something like that cost?

•It's worth checking out their site for details. For me it was way better than spending entire days redialing and never getting through.

•Never heard of that but honestly anything is better than the endless busy signals from Washington ESD.

Check your Washington ESD account online to see if there are any issues flagged that might be holding up your claim. Sometimes there are identity verification requirements or other issues that need to be resolved before payments can start. Log into your SecureAccess Washington account and look for any alerts or required actions.

•I checked earlier today and don't see any alerts or actions required. Just says 'under review' still.

•That's good - means it's just in the normal processing queue. Should hear something soon.

ugh the waiting is the WORST part! I'm going through the same thing right now with my claim. It's been 4 weeks for me and I'm about to lose my mind. How are we supposed to survive while they take their sweet time??

•Right?? The stress is killing me. At least I'm not alone in this.

•I know it sucks but try to hang in there. Once it gets approved you'll get all the back payments.

•Yeah I keep telling myself that but bills don't wait for Washington ESD to get their act together.

Just to clarify - when you say 'under review', is that the exact wording in your account? Sometimes people confuse different statuses. If it says 'adjudication in progress' that's different from general processing. Also make sure you completed the initial job search registration with WorkSource if that was required.

Debra Bai
•It actually says 'pending' when I look at it now. And yes I did the WorkSource registration when I first filed.

Gabriel Freeman
•Pending is normal for new claims. You should be getting a determination letter soon with your benefit amount and start date.

I waited exactly 3 weeks and 2 days before my first payment hit my account from Washington ESD. Keep checking your account daily because once it switches to approved the payments usually start within a few days after that.

Debra Bai
•That gives me some hope! Did you get all the back payments at once or spread out?

Laura Lopez
•All at once - got 4 payments deposited the same day which was amazing.

make sure your bank account info is correct in the system too, i had a friend who waited forever and it turned out they had the wrong routing number

Debra Bai
•Good point, I should double check that. Would hate for it to be something simple like that.

Another thing to check - did you work in multiple states in the past 18 months? Sometimes that can complicate the claim process if Washington ESD needs to coordinate with other state unemployment agencies for wage information.

Debra Bai
•No, I've only worked in Washington. Been at the same warehouse job for 2 years before they laid me off.

Samuel Robinson
•That should make it straightforward then. Layoffs are usually processed faster than other separation types.

I used that Claimyr thing someone mentioned earlier and finally got through to a Washington ESD agent who told me my claim was approved but there was a glitch in their payment system. Would never have known that if I hadn't been able to talk to someone. Definitely recommend it if you're stuck.

•Wow that's exactly the kind of info I need to know! Maybe I should try that service too.

•How long did it take them to get you connected to an agent?

•They called me back within a few hours and had me connected to Washington ESD within minutes. Way better than the hours I wasted trying to call myself.

For what it's worth, I think Washington ESD is actually processing claims faster now than they were last year. 3 weeks seems pretty normal from what I've seen in this forum. Just gotta be patient even though it sucks.

•Trying to stay patient but it's hard when you're worried about rent.

•I totally get it. Maybe look into food banks or other emergency assistance while you wait? Every little bit helps.

Have you gotten any mail from Washington ESD yet? Usually they send a determination letter before payments start. If you haven't gotten anything in the mail after 3 weeks that might be a red flag.

Debra Bai
•No mail yet but my address is correct in the system. Should I be worried?
0 coins
LongPeri
•Not necessarily worried but maybe worth calling to check. That's where services like the one mentioned earlier could help you actually get through.

The warehouse layoffs have been brutal lately. I know at least 3 people who got laid off from different warehouses in the Seattle area this month. Washington ESD is probably swamped with claims right now which explains the delays.

Debra Bai
•Yeah there were about 20 of us laid off at the same time. Makes sense that would slow things down.

Laura Lopez
•Same thing happened at my old job. Mass layoffs definitely create a backlog.

Just wanted to say hang in there! I know the waiting is stressful but Washington ESD will come through. I went through this same anxiety 6 months ago and everything worked out fine. You'll get your benefits plus all the back pay.

•Thank you, I really needed to hear that today. Some days the stress gets overwhelming.

Pro tip: set up direct deposit if you haven't already. Once your claim is approved, direct deposit is way faster than waiting for a debit card or check in the mail. You can set it up in your Washington ESD online account.

Debra Bai
•Good advice! I think I already have direct deposit set up but I'll double check.

Update on the Claimyr service - I used it again this week to check on something else with Washington ESD and got connected right away. It's become my go-to whenever I need to actually talk to someone there. Way less stressful than the phone tag game.

•I'm definitely going to try it if I don't hear something by next week. Thanks for the updates.

One more thing to check - make sure you didn't accidentally select 'no' for any of the weekly claim questions. I know someone who was checking the wrong boxes and it held up their whole claim for weeks.
0 coins
Debra Bai
•I've been really careful with those questions but I should probably review my answers just to be sure.

Leeann Blackstein
•Yeah it's worth double checking. Those questions can be confusing and one wrong answer can mess everything up.

honestly 3 weeks feels like forever when ur broke but it's not that unusual for washington esd. my neighbor waited 5 weeks last year so ur probably fine

Debra Bai
•5 weeks would probably put me on the street. Really hoping it doesn't take that long.

Final thoughts - based on everything you've shared, your claim sounds like it's processing normally. Warehouse layoff, no multi-state complications, weekly claims filed correctly. I'd expect you'll see movement in the next week or two. Keep filing those weekly claims and try not to stress too much.

•Thanks for all the help everyone. This forum has been way more helpful than anything I could find on the Washington ESD website. I'll keep filing my weekly claims and hopefully see some good news soon.
