How long does Washington ESD unemployment decision take after filing?
Filed my initial unemployment claim with Washington ESD about 2 weeks ago and still haven't gotten any decision. My account just shows 'claim under review' but doesn't give me any timeframe. I'm starting to worry because I need to know if I'm approved so I can start filing my weekly claims. Has anyone else experienced this kind of delay? What's the typical timeline for getting a decision on your unemployment claim?

Usually takes 2-4 weeks for Washington ESD to make an initial determination on your claim. If there are no complications or need for additional information, you might hear back sooner. Check your account regularly for any requests for documentation.

•Thanks! I haven't gotten any requests for additional info yet, so hopefully that's a good sign.

•Mine took exactly 3 weeks last year. Just be patient, they're pretty backed up most of the time.

The waiting is the worst part honestly. I remember checking my account like 10 times a day when I first filed. Washington ESD will send you a letter with their decision, but it also shows up in your online account first usually.

•Yeah I'm definitely checking way too often! Good to know the online account updates first.

•LOL same here, I was obsessed with checking every few hours. Drove me crazy.

If you're having trouble getting through to Washington ESD to check on your claim status, I found this service called Claimyr that actually got me through to a real person. They have a website at claimyr.com and there's a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works. Saved me hours of trying to call myself.

•Interesting, I haven't heard of that before. Did they charge you anything for helping you get through?

•Yeah there's a fee but honestly it was worth it to actually talk to someone instead of getting the busy signal all day.

•Hmm, not sure I trust paying someone to make a phone call for me, but I guess if you're desperate...

Just to clarify the process - after you file your initial claim, Washington ESD has to verify your employment history, wages, and eligibility. This involves contacting your previous employers, which can add time to the process. If everything checks out, you'll get approved and can start filing weekly claims.

•That makes sense. I worked for a pretty big company so hopefully their HR responds quickly to Washington ESD.

•Big companies are usually faster with this stuff. Small businesses sometimes take forever to respond.

Ugh I'm going through the same thing right now! Filed 3 weeks ago and still nothing. Starting to panic about rent money...

•I feel you on the rent anxiety. Hopefully we both hear back soon!

•Try calling Washington ESD directly if you're past the 3 week mark. Sometimes there are issues that need to be resolved.

•I've tried calling but can never get through. Their phone lines are always busy.

The key thing is to keep filing your weekly claims even if your initial claim is still pending. If you get approved, they'll pay you retroactively for those weeks. Don't skip filing just because you haven't heard back yet.

•Wait, I can file weekly claims before my initial claim is approved? I thought I had to wait.

Javier Morales
•Yes definitely! Log into your account and you should see the option to file weekly claims. It's important to keep filing to maintain your eligibility.

•This is crucial advice. I made the mistake of not filing weekly claims while waiting and lost out on 2 weeks of benefits.

Washington ESD is so slow with everything. I swear they take their sweet time just to make people suffer. Been dealing with them for months on different issues.

Oliver Fischer
•That's discouraging to hear. What kind of issues have you had?

Isabella Silva
•Overpayment notice that took 2 months to resolve, adjudication that lasted 6 weeks, you name it. They're just understaffed and overwhelmed.

My friend just got approved after 5 weeks, but she had some complications with her previous employer disputing her eligibility. Most straightforward cases are much faster than that.

Oliver Fischer
•5 weeks sounds awful! I really hope mine doesn't take that long.

Ravi Choudhury
•Yeah hers was a special case though. The employer was being difficult about her reason for leaving.

Check if you need to complete any identity verification stuff. Sometimes that can hold up the process if Washington ESD can't verify who you are.

Oliver Fischer
•Good point, I'll double check that. I did upload my driver's license when I filed but maybe they need something else.

•Yeah sometimes they want additional documents. Should show up in your account if they need anything.

I used Claimyr last month when I was trying to get an update on my pending claim. Actually worked pretty well - they got me through to someone at Washington ESD who could tell me exactly what was holding up my case. Worth considering if you're getting frustrated with the wait.

•That's the second person who's mentioned them. Maybe I should look into it if I don't hear back soon.

GalaxyGlider
•Can you tell me more about how that worked? Did they just call for you or what?

Omar Farouk
•They basically handle the calling and waiting on hold, then connect you when they get through to an agent. Saved me a lot of time and frustration.

Just be prepared that if there are any issues with your claim, it could take much longer. I had to go through adjudication and that added another 4 weeks to the process.

Oliver Fischer
•What triggers adjudication? I'm hoping to avoid that.

•Usually happens if there are questions about why you left your job, or if your employer disputes your claim. Could also be wage issues or other eligibility questions.

The 2-4 week timeframe is pretty accurate for most people. I got my decision in exactly 2 weeks and 3 days. Keep in mind that doesn't include weekends or holidays.

Oliver Fischer
•That's encouraging! I'm at about 2 weeks now so hopefully soon.

•Yeah you're probably getting close. I remember the relief when I finally saw that approval in my account.

Make sure you're also doing your job search activities even while waiting for approval. Washington ESD requires you to be actively looking for work, and they might ask for your job search log.

Oliver Fischer
•I've been applying to jobs but wasn't keeping a formal log. Should I start one?
0 coins
Diego Mendoza
•Absolutely! Keep track of where you apply, when, and what type of job. Washington ESD can audit your job search activities.

Natasha Petrova
•Yes, you need to be doing at least 3 job search activities per week and keep records of everything.

The waiting is brutal but try not to stress too much. Washington ESD is slow but they usually get there eventually. I was approved after 3 weeks and got all my back pay for the weeks I was waiting.
0 coins
Oliver Fischer
•Thanks for the reassurance! The back pay is definitely important since bills don't stop coming.
0 coins
Anastasia Popova
•Exactly. As long as you keep filing your weekly claims, you'll get paid for all those weeks once approved.

If you're really worried about the timeline, you could try using that Claimyr service someone mentioned earlier. I was skeptical at first but they actually got me through to Washington ESD when I couldn't get through myself. The agent was able to give me a specific timeline for my claim.

•That's three people now who've mentioned good experiences with them. I might have to try it if I don't hear back this week.

•Yeah, check out their video demo first to see how it works. Made me feel more comfortable about using them.

One thing to watch out for - if Washington ESD needs additional information from you, they'll usually send a letter or show a message in your online account. Check both regularly because failing to respond quickly can delay your decision even more.
0 coins
Oliver Fischer
•Good advice. I've been checking online but should probably keep an eye on my mailbox too.

•Definitely. Sometimes they send important stuff by mail that doesn't show up online right away.

My decision took about 18 days total. Not too bad considering all the horror stories you hear about Washington ESD. The key is just being patient and not panicking.

Oliver Fischer
•18 days seems reasonable. I'm trying to stay patient but it's hard when you're worried about money.

•I totally understand. The financial stress makes the waiting so much worse. But hang in there!

Just remember that no news is usually good news with Washington ESD. If there were major problems with your claim, they would have contacted you by now asking for more information.
0 coins
Oliver Fischer
•That's a good way to think about it. I haven't gotten any requests for additional docs so hopefully that means things are moving along normally.
0 coins
Luca Ferrari
•Exactly! When there are issues, they're usually pretty quick to ask for clarification or documentation.

For what it's worth, I think 2-3 weeks is pretty typical right now. Washington ESD seems to be processing claims at a reasonable pace compared to a couple years ago when everything was backed up.

Oliver Fischer
•That's reassuring. I was worried I'd be waiting months based on some of the older posts I've seen online.
