ESD letter says approved but unpaid due to an issue - only disqualified weeks affected?
I'm super confused about my claim status right now. I was disqualified for 4 weeks in March (they said I wasn't available for work because I had a family emergency). Last Tuesday I got a letter saying they reversed the decision and approved my claim after I appealed, but there's still an "unresolved issue" preventing payment. The letter doesn't explain what this new issue is! Does this mean I'll eventually get paid for those 4 disqualified weeks once they resolve whatever this new problem is? Or does "approved but can't pay" basically mean I'm still not getting anything? My eServices dashboard is no help at all - it just shows "pending issues" with no details. Anyone deal with something similar?

Good news - getting approved after being disqualified means you SHOULD get paid for those weeks, but only after they resolve the new issue. This is actually pretty common with ESD. The approval means they've reversed the disqualification, but now there's some other technical issue they need to fix before releasing payment. Check your "Decisions" tab in eServices to see if it gives any clues about what the new issue might be. Common ones are identity verification, job search requirements, or sometimes just a system flag that needs clearing.

•Thanks for clarifying! I checked the Decisions tab but it just says the disqualification was reversed (with the date of the reversal). No mention of any new issues. I've been doing my job search activities every week, so I don't think it's that. Could it be that they're reviewing the weeks individually or something?

•Did you end up getting all the money for the weeks they initially disqualified you for? Or just from the point they approved you forward?

This is a fairly standard procedure when a disqualification is reversed. What's happening is: 1. They've determined you WERE eligible for those weeks (that's the approval) 2. But there's a system processing issue preventing immediate payment 3. This is often administrative - they need to manually review those weeks Based on my experience helping claimants, you'll likely receive payment for ALL the previously disqualified weeks, but it could take 2-3 weeks for processing. The key thing is to keep filing your weekly claims during this period even for past weeks if the system allows it. If you don't see movement in your eServices account within 10 business days, I'd recommend calling ESD directly to inquire about the specific hold on your payments.

•That's really helpful - thank you! I'll keep filing my weekly claims and give it about 10 days. Do you know if there's any documentation I should prepare before calling them? The last time I tried calling it took forever to get through, and then they didn't have enough information to help me.

I've been stuck in this EXACT situation for going on 5 WEEKS now!!!! Approved but "issues" preventing payment. I've called ESD 17 times and gotten NOWHERE because I can never get through to a human!!! The automated system just tells me to check online but online just says "pending issues" with zero explanation!!!! I'm about to lose my apartment!!!!!

•Have either of you tried using Claimyr? I was in a similar situation last month (approved but not paid for weeks). After trying to call for days, I used Claimyr (claimyr.com) and they got me connected to an actual ESD agent in about 25 minutes. The agent was able to clear whatever flag was on my account and I got paid three days later. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3. It definitely beats calling hundreds of times yourself.

Just to add my 2 cents as someone who went through this in January - the approval letter is definitely good news! But the "issue" could be one of many things. In my case, they needed to manually adjust the payment system after reversing the disqualification. I waited 2 weeks after getting the approval letter and nothing happened, so I finally called. Turns out it was just sitting in someone's queue waiting for a final review. The rep pushed it through while I was on the phone and I got paid for all the disqualified weeks 2 days later. Don't just wait indefinitely - give it about 10 days then start calling. And yes, it's worth calling multiple times if necessary!

•Thanks for sharing your experience! That's encouraging to hear. I'll definitely start calling if I don't see any changes in about 10 days. Fingers crossed it's just waiting in someone's queue like yours was.

my cousin works at esd (not saying which office lol) and she always tells me they are SUPER backed up right now. apparently they switched computer systems in april and its causing all kinds of glitches with payments. she said if you were approved you'll definitely get paid eventually, but "eventually" might be weeks away unless you can actually get someone on the phone who can manually fix it. good luck!!!

•That's really interesting insider info - thanks! I had no idea they switched systems. That could definitely explain the weird approval-but-not-paid situation. Did your cousin mention any particular department or option to ask for when calling?

•she said to ask for a "claims specialist" specifically! regular agents cant fix the payment issues but claims specialists can. thats what she told me anyway

Just wanted to follow up since I've helped a few people with this exact situation. The most common reason for "approved but can't pay" status is that the system needs a manual review of those specific weeks before releasing payment. After a disqualification is reversed, each week doesn't automatically switch to paid status. When you do call (and I agree with others that you should call if it's not resolved in 10 days), ask specifically for a "payment review" of the weeks in question. Use those exact words. Also, have ready: 1. The exact dates of the disqualified weeks 2. The date on your approval letter 3. Your claim ID number This gives the agent everything they need to quickly review and potentially release your payment while you're on the phone.

•This is extremely helpful - thank you! I'll get those details ready and specifically ask for a "payment review" when I call. I really appreciate you following up with this detailed advice.
