ESD denied my claim TWICE after meeting 7x weekly benefit amount requirement - help!

I'm beyond frustrated with ESD right now. After getting disqualified initially (quit my previous position), I got a letter saying I could reapply after 7 weeks if I earned 7x my weekly benefit amount at a new job. Fine, I followed the rules! Got a temp position, earned well over the required amount, and immediately reapplied. Guess what? INSTANTLY disqualified AGAIN! Did they even look at my information?? I sent in my paystubs from the temp job hoping they'll actually review them this time. They also hit me with ANOTHER problem - when I started the temp position, I claimed for that first week but honestly answered that I didn't look for work (because, duh, I was EMPLOYED at that point and continuing the next week). Now they're questioning that too! Another appeal to file! I've been on unemployment twice before in my 15+ years of working and NEVER had these kinds of issues. The system seems completely broken in 2025. Has anyone successfully dealt with the 7x weekly benefit requalification process? What documentation finally worked? I've already sent messages through eServices with my income details but worried they'll just auto-deny again without looking.

SAME THING happened to me!!! I was told I needed to work and earn 6x my weekly amount (mine was different for some reason?), did that at a 3-week project job, submitted everything and BAM - denied. Called like 67 times before getting through. Turns out they need to see the paystubs AND they need a letter from the employer confirming dates worked. Did you submit both? They never tell you this anywhere on the website!

OMG no, I only sent paystubs! Where would I even get an employer letter for a temp position that already ended? The agency probably won't respond to me now. This is such a nightmare.

The requalification process is definitely confusing. To clarify a few things: 1. For a quit disqualification, you need to earn 7x your weekly benefit amount AND work at least 7 weeks (not necessarily consecutive) to requalify. 2. When you reapply, ESD doesn't automatically check your work history - you need to provide complete documentation showing BOTH the earnings AND the weeks worked. 3. For the job search issue - once you're working full-time, you should select "I was employed full-time" rather than saying you didn't look for work. These are processed differently in their system. I'd recommend uploading a detailed work history showing dates, hours, and pay for each week worked during your requalification period. Also, contact the temp agency and request a simple letter confirming your employment period - most agencies have a standard form for this.

Adding to this - the 7x rule is so frustrating because they don't tell you anywhere in their materials that they need documentation for EACH WEEK separately, not just the total amount. I was denied twice before figuring this out. Make sure you're showing each individual week worked.

ur gonna need 2 appeal probably. i quit a job 2 & the whole process took me like 4 months b4 i got paid. they make u jump thru so many hoops!! if u earned the 7x amount u should be good but esd computers auto-deny stuff all the time without a human looking at it. my advice is keep appealing!!

4 MONTHS??? I can't wait that long, I have bills due! This is absurd. Did you just keep resubmitting the same documentation over and over?

I went through this exact process last year. Here's what finally worked for me: 1. I submitted a detailed work log showing each week I worked at the temp job 2. I included all paystubs clearly labeled with dates 3. I got a letter from my temp agency confirming my assignment (this was crucial) 4. I specifically requested a "requalification review" in my messages to ESD Most importantly, I could NOT get through on the phones for weeks which was delaying everything. I finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) and got through to an ESD agent in about 20 minutes who manually reviewed my requalification documents while I was on the phone. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 The agent was able to override the automatic denial once they could actually see my documentation. Without that call, I think I would have been stuck in appeal limbo for months.

does that claimyr thing really work? seems sketchy to pay to talk to ESD when its suppose to be free???

It worked for me after I wasted 3 weeks trying to get through myself. I was desperate and it was worth it to avoid waiting another 2 months for an appeal hearing. ESD's phone system is completely broken - I was getting hung up on 15+ times a day before trying this.

The ESD system is DELIBERATELY designed to be confusing and difficult! They WANT people to give up so they don't have to pay benefits. I had to appeal THREE TIMES for a simple issue last year. The whole department needs to be investigated!

I'm starting to think you're right... it feels like they're making it as complicated as possible hoping people just give up. I'm not giving up though!

One more thing I should clarify - for your situation with the "didn't look for work" issue during your first week at the temp job, this is actually a common misunderstanding. If you were working part-time that week, you should have selected "I am working part-time" and still completed job searches. If you were working full-time, you should have selected "I was employed full-time" which automatically waives the job search requirement. For that specific issue, when you appeal, explain clearly that you were employed and misunderstood the claim questions. If you have documentation showing you were working that week (like a schedule or timesheet), include that with your appeal. This type of appeal is usually successful when you can prove you were actually working.

Thank you! That makes so much sense now. I was working full-time that week but didn't select the right option. I'll definitely include my timesheet from that week with my appeal documentation.

I just went through the requalification process and managed to get approved after an initial denial. Here's what worked for me: 1. I called ESD (took forever to get through) and asked specifically what documentation they needed 2. They told me I needed to submit an official employment verification letter showing DATES and EARNINGS 3. I also had to submit a "Request for Requalification Review" form which they don't tell you about anywhere on the website! Once I submitted all that, they approved my requalification within 10 days. You might need to explicitly request the review form - it's not available in the regular document upload section of eServices.

wait where is this requalification review form? ive been looking all over eservices and cant find it anywhere!!

You won't find it online - you have to call and request it specifically. They'll either email it to you or tell you how to access it in your secure documents folder. It's incredibly frustrating that they don't make this clear anywhere!

my cousin works at esd (not suppose to say this lol) but she says their computer system auto-denies TONS of valid claims and then the appeals backlog is crazy right now!!! like 12 weeks behind!!! might be faster to just try calling over and over until u get a actual person who can fix it without appeal. good luck!!!

12 WEEKS??? That's insane! I'll definitely try calling then. I've been trying without success but will keep at it. Thanks for the inside info!

Any update on your situation? Did sending the paystubs work? I'm still dealing with my mess and wondering if I should try something different.

Still denied! I've been calling every day but can't get through. I'm going to try getting a letter from my temp agency as several people suggested, and I'm considering using that Claimyr service someone mentioned just to talk to a human. The most frustrating part is that I KNOW I qualify based on the 7x rule - I just need someone to actually look at my documentation!
