ESD approved my claim after 1.5 months in adjudication - fired without cause
Just got some great news and wanted to share with others who might be in the same boat! After what felt like forever, my unemployment claim was finally approved yesterday. Here's my timeline: - Filed initial claim: March 12, 2025 - Waiting week started: March 19 - Claim stuck in adjudication: March 26 - May 10 - Approval notification: May 10 at 3:45am (weird time, right?) For context, I was terminated from my warehouse supervisor position. My employer claimed "performance issues" but never documented anything or gave me warnings. During the application, I selected that the separation reason was 'disputed' and uploaded a detailed letter explaining the toxic work environment (manager screaming at staff, constantly changing expectations, etc). Interestingly, my former employer never contested the claim - they just ignored ESD's requests for information. Not sure if that helped speed things up or not. Hope this gives people some idea of current processing times when there's a termination involved but no employer contest. Anyone else recently approved after adjudication?

Congrats! That's still a pretty long wait though - almost 2 months from filing to approval. I think when employers don't respond, ESD has to wait out the full employer response period before moving forward. In my experience, these timelines are pretty typical for 2025, especially for termination cases. Did you file weekly claims during the adjudication period? They should pay you retroactively for all weeks you filed.

•Thanks! Yes, I did file my weekly claims religiously every Sunday morning. Just checked my account and all the back payments are pending now with an estimated deposit date of May 13. Such a relief after draining my savings these past two months.

•No, I never had to do a phone interview which really surprised me! I was checking my account daily expecting to see an interview scheduled. I think because my employer didn't respond at all, they might have just made the decision based on my statement and documentation.

This is actually a fairly typical timeline for adjudication cases involving termination. The law requires ESD to make a determination within 21 days, but in reality, most complex cases exceed this timeframe. When employers don't respond, ESD has to wait the full response period (usually 10 business days) and then make a determination based on available evidence. For anyone reading this in a similar situation, a few tips: 1. Always file your weekly claims during adjudication 2. Upload any supporting documentation (like the letter OP mentioned) 3. Be honest but strategic in how you describe the separation 4. Check your eServices account daily for correspondence 5. If it goes beyond 6 weeks, consider reaching out to escalate I've seen many cases where the employer not contesting actually helps the claimant, as ESD tends to rule in the claimant's favor when there's no contradicting evidence.

•Mines been in adjudication for 7 WEEKS now!!! How do you "escalate"? I've called like 50 times and either get hung up on or told to wait.

I spent weeks calling ESD about my claim when it was stuck in adjudication last month - trust me, use Claimyr and save yourself the headache! I was skeptical at first but it got me through to an actual ESD agent in less than 20 minutes when I'd been trying for days on my own. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 that shows how it works. Once I got through, the agent was able to tell me exactly what was happening with my claim and gave me an estimate of when it would be resolved. Way better than checking the portal obsessively with no updates.

•I wish I'd known about this earlier! I called maybe 30+ times over that adjudication period and only got through twice - both times to agents who couldn't tell me anything beyond "it's still in adjudication, be patient." Will definitely keep this in mind if I have issues with the ongoing weekly claims.

Interesting that you never had an interview. When I got fired last year, I had to do this whole fact-finding interview where they asked me like 20 questions about why I was fired. Super stressful. Maybe ESD is changing their processes? Or maybe because your employer ignored them? Either way, glad it worked out for you!

•The interview process isn't consistent at all. I've been through the unemployment process 3 times over the years (construction work has its ups and downs), and their procedures change constantly. In 2023 they did extensive interviews for almost everyone, but in 2025 they seem to only do them if there's conflicting information. ESD is always changing the system - usually not for the better! 🙄

•I didn't do anything special, honestly. I tried calling a bunch of times but rarely got through. I think what might have helped was uploading that detailed letter explaining the situation right at the beginning. I was super specific about dates, incidents, and included examples of how the workplace violated their own policies. Maybe that helped ESD understand my side better? Also, definitely talk to your landlord and see if they'll work with you - sometimes they can be understanding if they know payment is coming soon.

To address a couple of the comments in this thread about speeding up adjudication: 1. You absolutely CAN request escalation after 5-6 weeks, but you need to talk to a Tier 2 specialist (not the first person who answers) 2. For those facing financial hardship (like potential eviction), there's a hardship escalation process. When you call, specifically mention "financial hardship escalation" and be ready to explain your situation 3. Written documentation is extremely helpful in these cases - ESD adjudicators are overwhelmed and clear evidence can speed up decisions 4. If you've been waiting 6+ weeks with no movement, contacting your state representative's office can sometimes help The system is frustrating but there are pathways to speed things up in legitimate cases.

•THANK YOU!!! I'm going to try calling again tomorrow and ask for a Tier 2 specialist and mention the hardship thing. Do I need to provide proof of the eviction notice?

•The waiting week is definitely still a thing in Washington in 2025. The first eligible week of your claim serves as your waiting week, and you won't receive benefits for that week. It was temporarily waived during COVID, but that waiver ended years ago. You still need to file a claim for that week though, as it counts toward your eligibility.
