ESD adjudication timeline frustration - still waiting after a week
Anyone know the typical timeframe for ESD adjudication these days? My claim status switched to 'adjudication in progress' last Tuesday after I answered 'yes' to that question about school attendance (even though it's just a night class that doesn't affect my availability). My rent is due next week and I'm getting seriously worried. The ESD website just says it could take 'additional time' which isn't helpful at all. Has anyone gotten through this process recently? Did calling help speed things up or am I just stuck waiting?

6 weeks?! Oh my god, I can't wait that long. Did they eventually approve you or did you have to do something special to move it along?

Adjudication timeframes can vary significantly depending on claim complexity and current department workload. For something relatively straightforward like yours (educational attendance question), you're looking at 2-4 weeks typically. Simple issues can sometimes resolve in 7-10 business days, but I wouldn't count on that in 2025 with their current backlog.\n\nThe school attendance flag is common - they need to verify it doesn't impact your ability to accept full-time work. Make sure your contact information is up-to-date because they may call to ask additional questions about your schedule flexibility.

Thank you for the detailed response. Do I need to keep filing my weekly claims during this waiting period? The ESD website wasn't clear about that.

Yes, absolutely continue filing your weekly claims while in adjudication! This is critically important. If your claim is eventually approved, you'll only be paid for weeks you properly claimed. Missing weeks cannot be retroactively filed in most cases.

My sister went thru this exact same thing last month!!! her class was online too so didn't affect anything but they still put her in adjud for like 3.5 weeks. so frustrating!! 🤬

I know this is incredibly stressful - I was in adjudication for almost 4 weeks earlier this year. What finally worked for me was using Claimyr to get through to an actual ESD agent (claimyr.com). They managed to connect me directly without the endless hold times. You can see how it works in their demo video: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3\n\nThe agent couldn't instantly resolve my adjudication, but she did escalate my case and add notes about my financial hardship. I was approved within 3 days after that call. Definitely worth trying if you're in a tight spot with rent coming up.

Thank you, I'll check that out. At this point I'm willing to try anything. Did they explain what was taking so long with your claim?

The agent told me they were just extremely backlogged with claims requiring manual review. She said having someone flag your account as urgent due to financial hardship can sometimes move you up in the queue. Make sure to clearly explain your situation with rent coming due if you call.

lol welcome to the ESD nightmare. they put me in adjudication for literally THREE MONTHS last year because i worked a single day at a temp job. THREE MONTHS!!! nobody would tell me anything or help. the system is designed to frustrate you into giving up. keep calling tho maybe you'll get lucky

While the ESD system definitely has issues, three months is extremely unusual for a simple issue. Most adjudications are resolved within 2-6 weeks. If anyone experiences delays beyond 8 weeks, you should contact your state representative or file a complaint with the ESD Commissioner's Office. There are escalation procedures available that can help in extreme cases.

I went through adjudication twice and both times the timeframe was different. First time took about 10 days (this was for a job separation issue), and the second time took a little over 3 weeks (for potentially missed work). I think it depends on what type of issue triggered it and how complicated your case is.\n\nOne thing I learned - if you have documents that might help your case (like your class schedule showing it doesn't conflict with standard work hours), upload them to your ESD account right away. This might help speed things up when they eventually review your case.

That's really helpful advice about uploading the documents. I'll scan my class schedule tonight and upload it. Did you just add it under the general document upload section?

Yes, use the document upload section and just name it clearly like

According to the ESD guidelines, the current average processing time for adjudication is 3-5 weeks, though I've seen cases resolved in as little as 10 days when the issue is straightforward. Educational attendance flags typically require confirmation that your classes don't affect your availability for work.\n\nHere's what you should do while waiting:\n\n1. Continue filing weekly claims without fail\n2. Upload your class schedule showing it doesn't interfere with standard work hours\n3. Check your ESD Secure Message Center daily for any requests for information\n4. Make sure your phone number is current as they often call for clarification\n\nIf you're approaching financial hardship, mention this specifically if you do reach an agent, as they can sometimes place a hardship flag on accounts where eviction or utility disconnection is imminent.

Thank you for the detailed steps. I'll definitely follow all of these. One more question - should I be logging into eServices daily to check for updates or will they email me when there's movement on my claim?

They're supposed to email you when there are updates or messages requiring action, but these notifications sometimes get delayed or filtered to spam. I'd recommend checking your eServices account directly at least every other day during adjudication. Any requests for information have deadlines, and missing them can significantly delay your claim or even result in denial.

Just wanted to update everyone - I finally got through to ESD today! After trying for 3 hours with no luck on the regular line, I used that Claimyr service someone mentioned above and was connected to a real person in about 20 minutes. The agent couldn't immediately clear the adjudication but they added notes to my file about my rent situation and flagged it for expedited review. She said I should hear something within 3-5 business days instead of potentially waiting weeks. Keeping my fingers crossed, but feeling much better now that someone actually looked at my claim. Will update when I hear something!
