ESD adjudication taking forever in 2025 - weekly claim still processing after layoff

I got laid off from my accounting job after our company lost a major client. Filed for unemployment right away and now I'm in week 2 of adjudication. My weekly claim is still showing as

typical. the system is so backed up right now. i waited 5 weeks in adjudication before mine got approved. keep filing your weekly claims tho!!

5 WEEKS?! Oh my god I can't wait that long. I'll be completely broke by then. Did they at least pay you for all those weeks once approved?

Adjudication timing varies quite a bit, unfortunately. It can take anywhere from 3-6 weeks currently. The important thing is to keep filing your weekly claims as normal, even while in adjudication. That way if/when your claim is approved, you'll get paid for all those weeks at once.\n\nYour claim is likely in adjudication because of the layoff - ESD needs to verify with your employer that you weren't fired for misconduct. If you have any documentation from your employer about the layoff (like a termination letter mentioning the client loss), upload that to your eServices account under \

Thank you, that's really helpful. I do have an email from my manager explaining the layoff situation. I'll upload that right away. Is there anything else I can do to help my case move faster?

I went through adjudication back in January this year. Mine took about 4 weeks to resolve. Make sure you're completing your job search activities (3 per week) and documenting them properly. Even while in adjudication, you need to be meeting all requirements. After uploading that email from your manager, I'd recommend calling your former employer's HR department to confirm they've responded to ESD's request for information - sometimes delays happen because employers are slow to respond.

I didn't even think about checking with HR! I'll call them tomorrow. And yes, I'm definitely doing my job search activities. Thanks for the advice.

7 weeks?? That's criminal. I've never understood why they make people wait so long when they KNOW we're without income. It's like they designed the system to be as stressful as possible.

If you want to actually get through to someone at ESD, good luck with their regular phone line. After trying for two straight weeks, I finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) and got through to an ESD agent in about 20 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 \n\nWhen I finally spoke with someone, they were able to tell me exactly why my claim was held up (missing employer response) and what I could do about it. Honestly wish I had known about it sooner instead of wasting weeks just waiting.

I've never heard of that service before. Did they actually help resolve your adjudication or just get you connected to someone?

They just got me connected to an actual ESD agent, but that was the impossible part I couldn't do on my own. Once I had an agent on the phone, I was able to find out exactly what was causing the delay and what documents I needed to send in. My claim was approved about a week after that call.

That sounds worth trying at this point. Thanks for the tip!

Just remeber, u gotta be doing 3 job search activities every week even while in adudation. I messed that up n had to appeal my disqualfication. Huge hassle!!

This is a really important point. Even during adjudication, you need to complete and document your three job search activities each week. If you don't, and your claim is eventually approved, you could find those weeks disqualified for not meeting job search requirements.

Definitely doing my job search activities and documenting everything! I've been applying to at least 5 places a week just to be safe.

I had a similar situation last month but my adjudication was because I had worked for two different employers in my base year. One thing that really helped me was going to the WorkSource center in person. They have direct lines to ESD and can sometimes check on claim status. They also helped me with my resume while I was waiting which was useful for job applications.

That's a great idea! There's a WorkSource center about 15 minutes from me. I'll try going there tomorrow. How long did your adjudication end up taking?

Mine took about 3.5 weeks total. But I think going to WorkSource helped because they confirmed that my claim was just waiting on verification from my second employer. Once that happened, it was approved within 2 days. Good luck!

One other thing to keep in mind - if you get to week 4 of adjudication with no movement, you can request a hardship expedition. You need to call and explain that you're facing financial hardship (potential eviction, utility shutoff, etc). They're supposed to prioritize those cases. It doesn't always work, but it's worth trying if you're approaching that timeframe.

I definitely will be at that point soon. My savings will only last another couple weeks. Good to know about the hardship expedition option.

btw when they finally approved mine they paid all the back weeks at once so at least u get a big deposit when it finalyl goes thru

That's at least somewhat reassuring. I'm just trying to figure out if I need to borrow money to cover rent while waiting.

Update us when you hear anything! The timelines seem to vary a lot right now - I've seen some claims get through adjudication in just 2 weeks while others take 6+ weeks. Make sure you check your eServices messages daily and respond immediately to any requests for information.

I definitely will update! I've been checking eServices obsessively, like 3-4 times a day. Nothing new yet, but I'll try some of these suggestions and see if they help. Thanks everyone for the advice!
