ESD adjudication limbo since June - anyone know typical wait times?

Hey everyone, I've been stuck in adjudication since June 22nd and I'm starting to get really worried. My rent is due next week and I was counting on these benefits. Has anyone been through the adjudication process recently? How long did it take before you heard anything back? I've tried calling ESD like 20 times but I just get that automated message saying call volumes are high. Getting desperate here!

I'm in the same boat!!! Been in adjudication for almost 5 WEEKS now with absolutely NO communication from ESD. It's ridiculous how they just leave people hanging with no income and no timeline! Have you tried contacting them through the eServices message center? Not that it helps much...

I sent them 3 messages through eServices and haven't gotten any response. It's so frustrating!

My adjudication took exactly 8 weeks to resolve last year. Unfortunately, ESD is seriously backed up, and adjudication can take anywhere from 4-10 weeks these days. Make sure you're still filing your weekly claims during this time - that's super important! When they do approve you (assuming they do), they'll pay all those weeks retroactively. If you have an urgent financial situation, you might want to mention that if you can get through to someone.

8 weeks? Oh god, I don't think I can wait that long. Do you know if there's any way to speed up the process? I'm definitely still filing weekly.

Mine took 7 weeks back in february...just kepe filing ur weekly claims so when they finally approve it youll get all the back pay. the system is broken but what can u do lol

7 WEEKS?? That's insane! How are people supposed to survive that long with no income??

I had to wait 6 weeks for my adjudication to clear and it was hell. I think they're intentionally slow to discourage people from filing. The whole system is designed to make you give up.

That's what it feels like! Like they hope I'll just give up and stop trying to get what I'm entitled to.

I had luck using Claimyr to get through to an ESD agent after weeks of failed attempts. It costs money but worth it in my situation - got connected to a live agent in about 30 minutes when I'd been trying for weeks. They were able to tell me exactly what was holding up my adjudication. You can check them out at claimyr.com - they have a video showing how it works here: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3

I've never heard of this service before. Did they actually help resolve your adjudication or just tell you what was happening?

Hi there, sorry you're dealing with this. Former ESD employee here. The timeframe for adjudication really depends on the specific issue that triggered it. Did you receive any letters explaining what they're investigating? Common issues include job separation reason, availability for work, or income verification. While adjudication typically takes 6-8 weeks currently, certain issues can be resolved faster. My advice: 1. Continue filing weekly claims 2. Check your eServices account for any new documents or questionnaires to complete 3. Answer any calls from unknown numbers (could be an adjudicator) 4. If you have a financial hardship, try calling right when they open at 8:00am If you haven't received any communication explaining why you're in adjudication, that's concerning. Sometimes claims get stuck in limbo due to system issues.

Thank you so much for this detailed information! I didn't get any letters explaining why I'm in adjudication - just says that status in my online account. I quit my job after they cut my hours from 40 to 15 per week, which I couldn't survive on. Could that be the issue? I'll definitely try calling right at 8am tomorrow.

Yes, that's almost certainly the reason for adjudication. Quitting a job automatically triggers adjudication, even when it's for good cause like a substantial reduction in hours. The adjudicator needs to verify your reason for quitting meets their criteria for "good cause." A reduction from 40 to 15 hours is definitely substantial (more than 25% reduction), so you should qualify under the "substantial reduction in hours" good cause reason. When you do speak with someone, be prepared to provide: 1. Documentation of your previous hours (paystubs, schedule, etc.) 2. Documentation of the reduced hours 3. Any communication with your employer about the reduction Given that information, I would expect your case to be decided in your favor, but the verification process still takes time.

That makes so much sense now. I do have my old schedules showing the change in hours. I'll get those ready. Feeling a bit more hopeful now, thank you!

Just wanted to follow up - when I used Claimyr, they connected me to an agent who could see exactly what was happening with my claim. In my case, there was a document I needed to upload that I didn't know about. The agent wasn't able to make a decision on my adjudication right then, but they added notes to my file and told me exactly what to do. My adjudication was resolved about a week later. Definitely worth it for me since I was in the dark for weeks before that.

Did you have to give them your personal info? I'm always sketchy about services like that...

They just need your phone number so they can call you when they get an ESD agent on the line. It's basically a system that keeps dialing ESD for you and then connects you when they get through. The demo video on their site explains it pretty well.

i might try this...been calling for days and just get the busy signal or it hangs up on me

anyone else notice how adjudication times get longer every year lol. in 2021 i got approved in 3 weeks. my brother just went through it in april and it took 9 weeks! ESD is falling apart

Exactly! They're deliberately understaffed to save money. I heard they lost a ton of staff after the pandemic and never replaced them. It's a broken system.

Quick update on current adjudication timeframes - I was at a WorkSource event last week and the ESD rep there said they're currently running about 8-9 weeks for most adjudications due to staffing shortages. However, they are prioritizing hardship cases, so definitely mention any urgent financial situation when you do get through. Regarding the hour reduction - that's definitely considered good cause for quitting in Washington, as long as it was at least a 25% reduction (which 40 to 15 certainly is). Make sure you emphasize that point when you speak with them.

Thanks for the current info! I'll definitely mention my hardship situation. My landlord is being somewhat flexible but I can't push it much longer.
