ESD adjudication interview completed! Waiting on decision by end of week - nervous!
Finally had my fact-finding interview with ESD today about my voluntary quit situation! The adjudicator called and asked detailed questions about why I left my restaurant manager position. I explained about the scheduling conflicts with my ongoing health treatments and how my employer refused reasonable accommodations after 3 years there. The adjudicator seemed understanding and said if my former employers don't contest my version of events, I should receive a decision by the end of this week! I'm so anxious but hopeful. Been waiting in adjudication limbo for almost 5 weeks and our savings are completely drained. Trying not to get my hopes up but desperately need this to work out. Anyone else get good news after their voluntary quit interview? How long did it take for your decision letter to actually arrive?

This is a good sign! When they say "end of the week" they usually mean it. For voluntary quits related to medical reasons with documentation, ESD tends to be quite reasonable. Make sure you check both your eServices message center AND your physical mail, as sometimes the decision gets sent to only one place. My voluntary quit due to unsafe working conditions was approved 3 days after my interview back in January. Sending positive vibes your way!

•Thank you! That's reassuring to hear about your experience. I've been checking my eServices account obsessively every few hours. Did you get your backpay for all the weeks you claimed during adjudication once approved?

hate to be that person but my interviewer told me same thing (decision by end of week) and it took another 3 weeks lol. esd is so backed up right now esp with all the seasonal construction layoffs. hope yours is faster tho!!

•Oh no, really? That's so discouraging :( Did you try calling them after the week passed with no decision?

Just went through this exact scenario last month! The key factor will be whether your former employer responds to ESD's inquiry. In my case, my employer had 48 hours to dispute my claim, and when they didn't, my benefits were approved. However, I recommend calling ESD if you don't hear anything by next Monday. Their system is notorious for putting claims on indefinite hold without notification. If you can't get through (which is likely), try Claimyr (claimyr.com) - I used their service to connect with an ESD agent within 25 minutes after spending days trying to get through on my own. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3. Definitely worth it to avoid weeks more of waiting.

They're SUPPOSED to make a decision within 5 business days of your fact-finding interview, but that rarely happens anymore. The whole system is designed to discourage people from collecting benefits they're entitled to! I waited 9 WEEKS after my interview before I finally got approved. Had to borrow money from family just to pay rent. And then they wonder why people get so desperate and angry with ESD!! It's absolutely RIDICULOUS how they treat people who are already struggling.

•9 weeks?! Oh my god, we'd be homeless by then. Did you try contacting your state representative? I've heard that can sometimes help speed things up.

•I do have emails documenting my accommodation requests and their responses thankfully. Did you have to have a hearing for your appeal?

Good luck!! My sister just went thru same thing in February with her medical accommodation issue, got approved no problem when employer didn't protest. Sending good thoughts! 🙏

@profile7 Yes, Claimyr is legitimate. I was skeptical too, but after weeks of frustration I tried it. They don't actually call for you - they hold your place in line and then connect you directly with ESD when an agent is available. Saved me from having to redial hundreds of times only to get hung up on. I was able to resolve my adjudication delay in one call once I actually reached someone.

One thing to note - if your decision is favorable, they should release all your held payments pretty quickly. When mine was approved, the funds hit my account about 36 hours after the decision letter appeared in my eServices. If you've been claiming every week correctly during adjudication, you should get everything as a lump sum backpayment.

•That would be amazing if it happens that fast! We're down to our last $140 and rent is due next week. Really hoping this comes through quickly.

IMPORTANT: If you don't hear by Monday, start calling IMMEDIATELY! I waited too long thinking they were working on it, and my claim got stuck in what they call "adjudication purgatory" where it's not actively being processed but shows as "in progress" in the system. The squeaky wheel gets the grease with ESD unfortunately.

UPDATE: I got approved!!!! Just checked my eServices account and my status changed from "adjudication in progress" to "paid" for all my back weeks! Haven't received the decision letter yet, but the money should be in my account in 1-2 business days according to the portal. I'm literally in tears right now. Thank you all for your support and advice through this process!

•Wonderful! Glad to hear ESD actually came through in a timely manner for once. Make sure you keep up with your job search activities (3 per week) and document them carefully.
