EDD application stuck - no option for S Corp part-time work. Help!

Hey everyone, I'm having trouble with my unemployment application. I work part-time (8 hours a week) as an S Corp owner, but there's no option to indicate this on the form. I've also been laid off from another job. Now I can't continue my application process. Has anyone else run into this issue? Any advice on how to handle this situation?

I found a way to solve unemployment application for S Corp, watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-C47EjvXBUo

Ugh, the unemployment system is such a mess! I had a similar issue when I was trying to apply. It's like they don't consider that people might have multiple jobs or unique employment situations. Have you tried calling the unemployment office directly?

I've been trying to call, but the lines are always busy. It's so frustrating! šŸ˜¤

Pro tip: call right when they open. I got through after only 30 minutes on hold that way.

Good advice! I'll have to try that next time. The system is such a headache sometimes.

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ

Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit?

Yeah, it's legit. I was skeptical at first too, but it saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo.

How long did it take for them to get someone on the line?

It took about an hour and a half in my case, but I didn't have to sit there listening to hold music the whole time. They just called me when an agent was ready.

As someone who's been through this rodeo before, here's what I'd suggest: ā€¢ First, try to complete the application as best you can with the options available. In the additional comments section (if there is one), explain your S Corp situation. ā€¢ If there's no place to add comments, submit the application anyway. ā€¢ Then, write a detailed letter explaining your employment situation. Include your application number, SSN, and all relevant details about both your S Corp work and your layoff. ā€¢ Mail this letter to the unemployment office. Yes, snail mail. It sounds old school, but it creates a paper trail. ā€¢ Keep calling the office. Be persistent. Sometimes you have to call 50+ times to get through. ā€¢ If you have an online account, check it regularly for any messages or requests for additional information. Remember, the key is persistence and documentation. Good luck!

I feel your pain, OP. The unemployment system seems designed to be as confusing as possible. It's like they're trying to discourage people from claiming benefits they're entitled to. Hang in there!

Not sure if this helps, but when I had a similar issue, I ended up talking to someone at my local workforce center. They had some insider knowledge about how to navigate the system. Might be worth a shot!

That's a great idea! I didn't even think about the workforce center. I'll give them a call tomorrow.

Have you tried reaching out to your state representative? Sometimes they can help cut through the red tape.

Just wanted to say good luck, OP. The system is broken, but don't give up. You'll get through this!
