Do WorkSource reemployment specialist appointments count as a job search activity for ESD weekly claims?
I've got a WorkSource reemployment specialist appointment this morning (they're calling me in a few hours). Does anyone know if this counts as one of my three required job search activities for my weekly unemployment claim? It seems like it should count since it's directly related to finding work, but I want to make sure before I submit my weekly claim. This is my first time working with a reemployment specialist, so I'm not sure how to document it properly. Thanks!

YES! WorkSource appointments absolutely count as a job search activity. I had one last month and documented it as "WorkSource Services" in my job search log. Make sure you write down the name of the specialist you talk with, the date/time, and a brief description of what you discussed. It's one of the easiest ways to fulfill a job search requirement.

When you log your WorkSource appointment in your job search log, make sure to classify it under the "In-person WorkSource workshop or appointment" category even though it's a phone call. ESD considers both in-person and virtual/phone WorkSource services the same way. Also, be prepared for them to ask about your job search strategy and resume. They'll likely assign you some follow-up tasks which will also count as separate job search activities for future weeks if they take more than an hour to complete.

If you're ever selected for job search review (which is random but happens to everyone eventually), you need to have everything properly recorded with contact information.

The WorkSource appointment definitely counts, but I'd also recommend doing more than the minimum 3 activities each week if possible. I got selected for a job search review in February, and the adjudicator told me they look more favorably on claims where people are clearly putting in extra effort. When I was on unemployment in 2024, I always did 4-5 activities minimum just to be safe.

•I was in the same situation last month - couldn't get through to anyone at ESD for over a week. I finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) and got connected in about 20 minutes. They have a service that basically keeps dialing for you and gets you in the ESD phone queue. Saved me so much frustration. You must record the specific name of the WorkSource staff member you spoke with 3. The system classifies these as "In-person WorkSource workshop or appointment" even for phone calls 4. If the specialist assigns you follow-up activities, those can count separately if they take more than an hour and are properly documented 5.
