Can't find financial hardship application on ESD website - Governor's office referral
I've been trying to get my claim resolved for what feels like forever. After weeks of calling ESD with no luck, I finally called the Governor's office out of desperation. They told me I haven't been waiting quite long enough for them to intervene directly (ugh), but they suggested I apply for financial hardship through ESD to expedite my claim. According to them, there should be a way to do this on the ESD website since I can't get through on the phones. I've been searching the ESD website for over an hour and can't find anything about a financial hardship application anywhere. Has anyone successfully found and used this financial hardship option? Where exactly on the website is it? I'm at my wit's end here and bills are piling up fast.

ā¢It's so frustrating! Did your friend actually successfully apply for financial hardship or just heard about it? I sent a message through eServices last week and haven't heard anything back yet.

The financial hardship expedite option isn't directly available on the website as a form or application. You need to send a detailed message through your eServices account explicitly stating you're requesting expedited processing due to financial hardship. Make sure you include: ⢠The specific hardship you're facing (eviction notice, utility shutoff, etc.) ⢠Documentation if possible (upload screenshots of shutoff notices) ⢠Your claim ID and contact information ⢠How long you've been waiting for resolution To send this message, log into eServices, go to your dashboard, select 'Send a message' from the menu, choose 'Existing Claim Questions' as the topic, and then clearly state in the first line that this is a 'FINANCIAL HARDSHIP EXPEDITE REQUEST'. They typically review these within 3-5 business days, much faster than regular inquiries.

ā¢Thank you so much! This is exactly what I needed. I'll follow these steps right away. Do you know if I should also call the claims center while waiting for a response to my hardship request, or will that just confuse things?

I tried the financial hardship thing back in January and it DID NOT WORK!!! Sent all my bills showing I was about to lose my apartment and they still didn't do anything for 6 WEEKS!!! The whole system is completely broken and they don't care about us at all!!!! š”š”š”

I actually had success with the financial hardship request last month, but it wasn't through any application form. Like someone mentioned above, I sent a detailed message through eServices. What really helped me was being very specific about my situation and uploading documentation. I included: 1. A copy of my eviction warning notice 2. A statement showing my bank account was overdrawn 3. A detailed timeline of my claim issues and previous contact attempts I titled my message "URGENT FINANCIAL HARDSHIP REQUEST - FACING EVICTION" and received a call from an ESD specialist within 48 hours who resolved my adjudication issue. If you're still struggling to get through on the phones while waiting for a response, I'd recommend trying Claimyr (claimyr.com). They helped me get through to an actual ESD agent after weeks of busy signals. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 Keep documenting everything and don't give up!

ā¢This is incredibly helpful! I'll definitely make my message very detailed and include documentation. I'm going to check out that Claimyr service too - at this point I'll try anything that might help me actually talk to a real person at ESD.

Why is everyone always looking for special treatment? The system is backed up and we all have to wait our turn. I waited 9 weeks for my claim to be processed last year. That's just how it is.

ā¢Special treatment??? Are you serious right now? People are LOSING THEIR HOMES while waiting for benefits they EARNED and are ENTITLED TO. The system being "backed up" isn't an excuse when people can't feed their families or keep their lights on! Your privilege is showing.

Just wanted to share what worked for me with the financial hardship situation. I wasn't able to find a formal application either, but I did these three things simultaneously: 1. Sent the eServices message specifically mentioning financial hardship (use those exact words in the subject line) 2. Called my state representative's office and explained my situation 3. Documented everything with dates and names The state rep's office actually called ESD on my behalf which seemed to help a lot. My claim was resolved within a week after being stuck for over a month. The financial hardship request through eServices alone might work, but having the state rep add pressure definitely expedited things. Good luck! The system is frustrating but don't give up.

ā¢Thank you! I hadn't thought about contacting my state representative. I'll definitely try that approach too. Did you find their contact info just through the state legislature website?

ā¢They weren't super specific, but the person I talked to said they usually don't intervene until someone has been waiting at least 8-10 weeks with no resolution. I'm at week 6 so they said I should try the financial hardship route first. It's ridiculous we have to wait so long!

Just to clarify from my earlier response - the financial hardship process does exist, but ESD doesn't advertise it prominently because they'd be overwhelmed if everyone used it. It's specifically for people facing imminent financial crisis (eviction, utility disconnection, inability to afford critical medication, etc.). One additional tip: when you send your hardship request through eServices, if you don't hear back within 3 business days, follow up with another message referencing your previous one. Sometimes these requests get overlooked in their system. Also, while the Governor's office said they can't help yet, you can try contacting your district's State Representative or Senator. They often have staff dedicated to helping constituents with unemployment issues and can sometimes get results faster than going through standard channels.

ā¢Thank you for the additional tips! I've sent the financial hardship request through eServices with detailed documentation and I'll follow up if I don't hear back in 3 days. I also contacted my State Representative's office this morning, so hopefully between these approaches something will work.
