Can I file two weekly ESD claims on the same Sunday after missing a week?

I completely forgot to file my weekly claim last week (I was helping my mom move and it slipped my mind). Now I'm worried about my benefits. Can I file both last week's and this week's claims together this Sunday? Will ESD allow this or am I going to lose a week of benefits? Has anyone else done this before? The last time I called ESD about something, I was on hold for 3+ hours before getting disconnected, so I'm really hoping to avoid that nightmare again. Thanks for any advice!

Yes, you can technically file for both weeks on Sunday, but you'll need to do them separately and in chronological order. First file the missed week, then after that's submitted, file for the current week. ESD allows you to backdate claims for up to 4 weeks. Just be prepared to explain why you missed filing (helping your mom move is a valid reason) in case they ask. Make sure you have your job search activities documented for both weeks too!

Thank you so much! That's a huge relief. I'll make sure to do them in order. I've kept track of my job search activities in my calendar so I should be good there. Fingers crossed it all goes smoothly.

Oh, that's good to know about the possible adjudication. At least you eventually got paid for both! I'm okay with waiting a bit longer as long as I don't lose the payment completely.

BE CAREFUL!!! When I missed a week and tried to file two weeks at once, my claim got flagged for fraud investigation!!!! I had to wait THREE MONTHS to get my benefits back. Make sure you call them first and explain the situation so they put a note on your account. ESD is looking for ANY reason to deny benefits these days!!!

Three months?! That sounds extreme for just missing one week. I've missed filing before and just did both the next week without issues. Maybe something else triggered your fraud flag?

NOPE! The adjudicator literally told me it was because I filed two weeks at once and the system automatically flagged it as suspicious activity. Maybe I just got unlucky but I wouldn't risk it!!!

After trying dozens of times to reach ESD about a similar situation, I discovered Claimyr (claimyr.com) and it was a game-changer. Instead of spending hours trying to get through, they held my place in line and called me back when an agent was available. Saved me literally hours of frustration. They have a video demo that explains it better than I can: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 In your situation, I'd recommend trying to speak with an agent just to make sure there won't be issues with your missed week. Better safe than sorry!

Thanks for the recommendation! I'll check out that video. Anything to avoid spending half a day on hold would be amazing. I agree that talking to an agent directly would probably be the safest option.

I work part time and sometimes forget to file too lol. From my experience, you can absolutely file both weeks on Sunday! Just make sure you do the older week first, then the current week. ESD's system won't even let you file them out of order anyway. I've never had mine go to adjudication for this, but maybe I've just been lucky? As long as you're honest about your work hours and job search activities for both weeks, it should be fine. Good luck!

yea same, its weird how some ppl have problems and others dont. ESD is so random sometimes

One thing nobody mentioned - if you were on standby status instead of doing job searches, missing a week might affect that! I was on standby last year and missed filing one week, and when I tried to file both the next Sunday, the system made me start doing job searches again. Had to get my employer to resubmit standby paperwork. So if you're on standby, definitely call first!

I'm not on standby, fortunately - just regular UI with job search requirements. But that's a really good point for others who might be on standby. Sounds like a huge headache!

Just wanted to add that when you file the missed week, you'll see a question asking why you filed late. Be honest but concise - something like "I was helping my mother move and forgot to file on time" is sufficient. Also, for anyone reading this in the future - setting a weekly calendar reminder for filing claims can be a lifesaver! I do mine every Sunday at 10am, with an alarm on my phone.

That's excellent advice, thank you! I'm definitely going to set up a recurring reminder on my phone after this. Never making this mistake again!

Back in 2023 I totally forgot to file for like 3 weeks straight (mental health issues). When I finally remembered I was able to file for all 3 weeks, one after another on the same day. Everything processed normally, no adjudication or anything. But I did have to answer why I filed late for each one. So you should be fine with just one missed week!

I had a similar situation a few months ago when I was dealing with a family emergency and completely spaced on filing. You should be totally fine filing both weeks this Sunday! Just like others mentioned, make sure to file the older week first - the system actually guides you through it pretty well. One tip that helped me: before you start filing, have all your job search activities written down for both weeks so you're not scrambling to remember what you did. The process is basically the same as filing normally, just twice in a row. I didn't have any issues with adjudication or delays, got paid for both weeks on the normal schedule. The "reason for late filing" question is straightforward - just be honest about helping your mom move. ESD sees legitimate reasons like family emergencies all the time. Good luck with the filing! And definitely set up that phone reminder like FireflyDreams suggested - I learned my lesson too!

This is really reassuring to hear from someone who went through the exact same thing! I'm feeling much more confident about filing both weeks now. Having all the job search activities written down beforehand is a great tip - I'll definitely do that to make the process smoother. It sounds like as long as I'm honest and have everything documented, it should be straightforward. Thanks for sharing your experience!
