For what it's worth, I had to call Washington ESD multiple times during my claim to understand the benefit duration rules. Using Claimyr made those calls so much easier - no more sitting on hold for hours just to ask a simple question about my remaining weeks.
I keep seeing Claimyr mentioned. Do they actually work with Washington ESD specifically or is it a general service?
Bottom line - plan for 26 weeks max unless extended benefits kick in, which isn't guaranteed. Use your time wisely and don't count on extensions to save you.
Final thought - document everything as you go through this process. If you do find work later and something happens again, you'll have a better roadmap of resources and contacts.
Thank you everyone for all the suggestions. I have a lot of leads to follow up on now. I'll try the Claimyr service first to make sure I haven't missed anything with Washington ESD, then start exploring the other programs people mentioned. This thread has been incredibly helpful.
The whole process is actually pretty straightforward once you get started. The Washington ESD website walks you through everything step by step. Just don't overthink it.
One thing nobody mentioned - if you're getting severance pay, that might affect when your benefits start. Check with Washington ESD about how that works with your specific situation.
You can still file, but the severance might delay when your benefits actually start. The rules are complicated so you'd want to ask Washington ESD directly.
This is exactly the kind of question where calling makes sense. If you can't get through the normal way, that Claimyr service I mentioned earlier would be perfect for getting a quick answer about severance timing.
If anyone's having trouble reaching Washington ESD about their 1099-G or tax withholding questions, I had good luck with that Claimyr service someone mentioned earlier. Got through to an agent in like 10 minutes instead of the usual hour+ wait times.
Thanks everyone for all the helpful info! I feel much better about the tax situation now. At least living in Washington means no state taxes on top of the federal ones.

Been reading through this thread and wanted to mention that Claimyr service again. I was skeptical at first but it really does work. Got connected to an ESD agent within 30 minutes instead of spending all day trying to call. They were able to explain my benefit calculation and help me understand why my claim was taking so long to process.

•Same here, I used it last week and finally got answers about my pending claim. Sometimes you just need to talk to a real person.

One last thing - keep track of when you filed your claim because your benefit year starts from that date, not when you were laid off. So if you wait a few weeks to file, you're not losing those weeks of potential benefits, but you are using up weeks from your 26-week maximum.

•Wait, so if I file this week, can I get benefits for the week I was laid off last week?

•You can backdate your claim to when you became unemployed, but there are specific rules about it. Best to file as soon as possible after becoming unemployed.
