I went through this same thing 6 months ago. One tip - when you do your weekly claims, make sure you answer all the questions accurately and consistently. Any discrepancies can trigger reviews that slow things down.
oh and if you have any issues with your claim or need to talk to someone, that claimyr thing actually works. I was skeptical at first but it got me through to an agent when I couldn't reach anyone for weeks
had to wait 10 days for my first payment even though everything looked fine online - just the way their system works unfortunately
Final suggestion - if your payment is still delayed after checking all these things, document everything (screenshots of your claim status, weekly claim confirmations, etc.) in case you need to escalate the issue or file an appeal later.
Just applied yesterday and already got my monetary determination! My weekly benefit amount is $847 based on $55,000 in base period wages. The process was actually smoother than I expected.
Remember that unemployment benefits are temporary. The maximum is 26 weeks in Washington, and you should be actively looking for work the whole time. It's meant to be a bridge, not a long-term solution.
Update: I finally got through to Washington ESD using that Claimyr service someone mentioned. Took about 25 minutes and the agent was able to tell me exactly what was holding up my claim. Definitely worth it if you're having trouble getting through on your own.
They needed additional verification from my employer about my separation date. Something I could have provided weeks ago if I'd known.
This is exactly why I'm going to try Claimyr too. Been waiting 3 weeks with no communication.

I've been following this thread and it's been really helpful. I'm in a similar boat - worked 8 weeks at my last job before they eliminated my position. Sounds like I should be fine to apply for unemployment based on my previous work history. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences!

•Good luck to both of you! Remember to file as soon as possible and keep track of your job search activities from day one.

One last tip - make sure you have all your employment information ready when you file. Washington ESD will ask for details about all your employers from the past 18 months, including dates of employment and reasons for leaving. Having that info organized ahead of time makes the application process much smoother.

•Great advice! I'll gather all that information before I start the application.

•Yes, being prepared definitely helps. Also keep copies of any termination paperwork or layoff notices you received.
