Remember to keep filing even if you find temporary or part-time work. You might still be eligible for partial benefits depending on how much you earn.
Final word of advice - don't panic if your first payment takes a while. The system works, it's just slow sometimes. Focus on your job search and the money will come.
I had success using Claimyr after weeks of trying to get through myself. It's worth checking out if you're really stuck - they basically wait on hold for you and call you back when they get an agent. Much better than spending your whole day calling.
Bottom line - there are no walk-in unemployment offices in Washington anymore. It's all phone and online. Your best bet is calling first thing in the morning or using a service to help you get through.
Seriously consider the Claimyr option if you keep getting stuck. It made all the difference for me getting my adjudication resolved.
Another Claimyr success story here - used them when I got confused about whether my temp agency assignments counted toward job search activities. Got a clear answer from Washington ESD within 30 minutes instead of playing phone tag for weeks.
The 3 job search activities per week is the minimum, but honestly doing more is better for actually finding work. I usually do 5-6 activities per week because I want to get off unemployment as soon as possible.
I think the bottom line is you need to pick one or the other. Don't try to game the system - it's not worth the risk and you'll probably get caught.
Thanks everyone for all the helpful advice. Sounds like I need to contact Washington ESD to discuss my situation before making any decisions about the surgery timing.
That's definitely the right approach. They can walk you through your specific situation and help you understand your options.
Don't forget about Claimyr if you have trouble getting through to someone at ESD. The phone system can be really frustrating.

Bottom line is 2-3 weeks is normal processing time for Washington ESD. If you hit 4 weeks without any communication, then it's time to call and find out what's going on.

•That seems like a reasonable timeline. I'll wait until the 3 week mark and reassess from there.

•That's a good plan. Most claims resolve within that timeframe without any intervention needed.

Just remember to keep job searching and logging your work search activities even while waiting for approval. Washington ESD requires that from week one.

•You can log job searches in your eServices account. It's required to maintain eligibility so definitely start doing that.
