Just make sure to file your weekly claims on time no matter where you are. Missing those can cause way more problems than moving states.
Don't forget that even if you can't get regular unemployment, you might be able to get other types of assistance while you're between contracts. There are programs for people in transition that don't require the same employment history.
UPDATE: I decided to go ahead and file a claim based on my W-2 wages from earlier this year. Worst case they deny it, but at least I'll know for sure. Will update this thread if I hear anything back from Washington ESD.
Smart move. And if you get stuck trying to reach Washington ESD about your claim status, remember that Claimyr can help you get through to an actual person instead of waiting on hold forever.
Been there, done that. Having both unemployment and SNAP made a huge difference during my job search. Gave me the breathing room I needed to find something good instead of just taking the first thing available.
Good luck with both applications! The process can seem overwhelming at first but once you get everything set up it becomes routine. You've got this!
One last tip - sign up for WorkSourceWA too. It's Washington's job search website and sometimes they have resources and job fairs that can help with your search.
The most important thing is to be honest and thorough in all your reporting. The state has ways of checking everything and it's not worth the risk to try to game the system.

Just remember that unemployment benefits are temporary. Even if you get approved, make sure you have a plan for when the benefits end. The average time to find a job is getting longer.

•That's what keeps me up at night. I have 18 weeks left on my claim and haven't gotten any solid leads yet.

•18 weeks is actually pretty decent time if you're actively searching. Don't panic but do have backup plans.

One more thing - some lenders will want to see that you're actively job searching. Keep records of your applications and interviews as proof you're working toward employment.

•I've been doing that anyway for my weekly claims, so at least I have documentation.

•Perfect, that shows responsibility and forward thinking to lenders.
