I wish I had known about services like Claimyr earlier. Spent so many hours trying to call Washington ESD with questions about my benefit timeline. Would have saved me a lot of stress to just pay someone to get through for me.
Thanks everyone for all this info! I feel much more prepared now knowing I have 26 weeks and understanding how it all works. Time to get serious about this job search.
For anyone still confused about their specific situation, I'd recommend calling Washington ESD directly. I used that Claimyr service and was able to get all my questions answered about my remaining benefit weeks.
How much does Claimyr cost? I'm already tight on money with unemployment.
I don't want to quote prices since they might change, but it was worth it for me to get clarity on my benefit timeline. Check claimyr.com for current info.
Bottom line for the original poster: you have 26 weeks total from when your claim started. If you're at week 15, you have 11 weeks left maximum. Use that time wisely!
Whatever you do, don't schedule anything important right after your hearing. Even if it ends quickly, you'll probably need some time to process what happened and maybe make some follow-up calls.
One last thing - bring water and maybe a snack if it's in person. Longer hearings can be physically draining too, especially if you haven't eaten. Phone hearings are easier in that respect since you can have whatever you need nearby.
For what it's worth, Washington's unemployment benefits are pretty generous compared to a lot of other states. The maximum of $999/week is solid, and 26 weeks is standard duration for most states.
Just remember that getting approved for benefits is only half the battle. You have to file your weekly claims every week, report any earnings, and keep up with job search requirements. Miss any of that and your benefits can get suspended.

I went through something similar with a restaurant job. Manager told Washington ESD I was fired for attendance when I was actually laid off due to slow business. Took 2 months to get it sorted out but I eventually got all my back pay. The key was having documentation and not giving up on the appeal process.

•This gives me hope! I was starting to think I'd never get benefits. Did you have to go to a hearing or was it resolved just with documents?

•I had a phone hearing. The employer didn't even show up so I just explained my side to the judge and provided my evidence. Won the appeal easily once I could actually tell my story.

Bottom line - don't let them steamroll you. Appeal the decision, gather your evidence, and keep filing weekly claims. Washington ESD makes it hard on purpose hoping people will give up. The squeaky wheel gets the grease with these government agencies.

•Thank you everyone for all the advice and encouragement. I'm going to file my appeal today and start documenting everything properly. This forum has been more helpful than anything I could find on the Washington ESD website!

•Good luck! Keep us posted on how the appeal goes. Stories like yours help other people know they're not alone in dealing with this broken system.
