ugh this is exactly why i tell everyone to always appeal EVERYTHING with unemployment!! even if you think you might owe the money, always file the appeal and waiver request because once they start taking money its so hard to get it back. sorry ur dealing with this, the waiting is the worst part :/
wait so they approved ur first 3 waivers but not the 4th one for the same issue?? that makes no sense!! did u use the same reason for all of them? im confused how they could approve some but not others
They haven't denied the 4th one - they just haven't responded at all! But they started taking money from my checks anyway. The first 3 were all related to them miscalculating my hours. This 4th one came out of nowhere a year later when they "recalculated" something from 2023. The whole thing is a mess.
ya sure this works for SOME people but i tried calling the governors office TWICE last month and still nothing!! my claim has been stuck since january and nobody will help me. this state is a joke
I'm sorry to hear about your experience. If you've already tried the Governor's office without success, you might want to consider contacting the Office of the Washington State Unemployment Insurance Ombuds at unemployment.ombuds@esd.wa.gov. The Ombuds office was specifically created to help resolve particularly difficult claim situations. Include your name, contact information, and claim ID in your email, along with a brief timeline of your attempts to resolve the issue so far.
Congrats on getting movement! I remember when my claim was stuck last year I was literally losing sleep every night. One thing to keep in mind - sometimes they'll say they're assigning an adjudicator but then nothing happens for another week. In my case, I had to do a follow-up call to the Governor's office after about 8 days of silence. The second call is what finally got things moving. Just sharing in case anyone else tries this method and doesn't get immediate results like you did.
Thanks for the heads up! I'm marking my calendar for one week from today. If I don't see movement by then, I'll definitely follow up. The ESD person who called me seemed pretty confident things would move quickly, but I've learned not to trust anything when it comes to unemployment processing timelines...
Quick update: I received my first payment today! It included all back payments from when I first filed. Such a relief to finally have that money coming in while I continue my job search. The escalation through WorkSource definitely made the difference.
One thing to watch out for: I had a similar situation where my claim was stuck for weeks, then suddenly got approved and paid... only to get an overpayment notice 2 months later because they said they made a mistake! Make sure you don't spend all the back pay immediately if you can help it. Set some aside in case ESD comes back with "oops we didn't mean to pay you that much." Happened to me and several others I know.
That's terrifying! Thanks for the warning. Did you have to pay back the full amount or were you able to appeal it? I'll definitely keep some funds in reserve just in case.
I've been through this process twice (once in 2022 and again in early 2025), and here's what I learned: 1. First, continue filing weekly claims no matter what 2. Request conditional payments while in adjudication (as mentioned above) 3. Contact your state representative's office - they have liaisons who can escalate ESD issues 4. Make sure you've uploaded ALL documentation to your account 5. Keep detailed logs of every call attempt, who you spoke with, and what was said When you finally reach someone, ask them to add notes to your file indicating you've been trying to resolve this. And definitely request backdating for those disqualified weeks once adjudication completes. Hang in there - the system is frustrating but persistence pays off!
this EXACT thing hapened to me 2 months ago!!! my stupid boss said i was fired for attendance but i only missed work when my kid was sick and i had doctors notes!!! it took 7 WEEKS for them to finish adjudication and then they DENIED me!!! had to appeal to OAH and won but it took almost 3 months total. keep fighting!!!

Just called ALL WorkSource offices in King County. Only Seattle Downtown and Auburn still have UI Ambassadors, and they only take appointments 2 days a week (Tuesday/Thursday). This system is deliberately designed to prevent us from getting help!!! Just sharing so people don't waste time driving around to offices that can't help.

•Thanks for doing that research! Really helpful to know which locations actually have them.

my brother is an esd employee and he says theyre super understaffed right now. said their turnover is crazy bc the job is stressful and pay isn't good. said they lost like 60% of staff after the covid surge ended. doesn't excuse the terrible service but explains some of it i guess

•Understaffed or not, they need a better system. I applied for benefits over a MONTH ago and still haven't received a single payment because of "adjudication" with no explanation of what that even means for my claim. My rent is due in 3 days and I have no income!
