Quick tip - when you file make sure your reason for separation is accurate. Don't say you quit if you were fired, even if it was unfair. Washington ESD will verify with your employer and inconsistencies just slow things down.
File today if possible. The waiting week starts from when you file, not when you were terminated. Every day you wait is money you're losing. Washington ESD processes claims pretty quickly if there are no complications.
Just wanted to add that you should apply as soon as possible after losing your job. There's no waiting period to file and the sooner you get in the system, the sooner you can start receiving benefits.
Just remember if you do run into any issues reaching Washington ESD, that Claimyr service I mentioned earlier is there as a backup option. Sometimes having that extra resource available gives you peace of mind even if you don't end up needing it.
Definitely keeping that in mind! Hopefully I won't need it but good to know it's there if something goes wrong.
I used Claimyr too when I had problems with my overpayment notice. Really helped to actually talk to a real person who could explain what was happening.
One more tip - if they schedule a phone interview, make sure you answer when they call. They sometimes only try once and if you miss it, it can delay your case even more. Keep your phone nearby during business hours.
This thread has been really helpful. I didn't realize employers contested claims so often. Makes me worried about my own situation since I was let go during 'restructuring' but it was pretty obvious they were getting rid of older employees.
Just remember that even if you qualify for benefits, you still need to meet the ongoing requirements like job search activities and filing weekly claims. The work requirement is just the first hurdle.
Hope this thread helps clear things up for you! The quarterly earnings system takes some getting used to but it's not as complicated as it first seems.

One last thing - people who lose jobs due to company closures or mass layoffs are definitely affected, and there might be additional resources available through WorkSource for job retraining and placement services.

•I'll make sure to mention WorkSource to her too. Sounds like there are multiple support systems available.

•WorkSource is great for job search assistance and they work closely with the UI system.

Bottom line: if you worked for an employer, paid into the system through payroll taxes, and lost your job through no fault of your own, you're likely affected by unemployment benefits in a positive way. The system is designed to help people during transitions between jobs.

•Perfect summary. I think my sister should definitely apply based on everything discussed here.

•Agreed. Better to apply and find out than to assume you don't qualify and miss out on benefits you earned.
