Also remember you can usually collect benefits for up to 26 weeks in Washington, but you need to keep filing those weekly claims and meeting all the requirements. Miss a week and you lose that week's benefits forever.
Washington state also has extended benefits sometimes during high unemployment periods, but I don't think those are available right now. The regular 26 weeks is what you can count on.
This thread is super helpful! I'm in almost the exact same situation and was wondering the same thing. Going to file my new claim this weekend. Good luck to everyone dealing with reduced hours - this economy is rough.
One last thing - if you're working part-time while collecting, be super careful about reporting your hours and wages accurately. Washington ESD will catch any discrepancies and it can cause overpayment issues later. I learned this the hard way.
For what it's worth, I tried the Claimyr service when I couldn't get through to Washington ESD and it actually worked. Got connected to an agent in about 20 minutes instead of the usual hours of busy signals. Worth checking out if you need help with your claim timing or anything else.
Bottom line: File your unemployment claim the day you lose your job. Don't wait, don't hesitate, don't overthink it. The Washington ESD system is designed to help people in your situation. Take advantage of it immediately.
my sister works part time and got unemployment when her hours got cut way back, so definitely possible for part timers
The eligibility requirements aren't that complicated once you understand them. The hard part is actually getting through the application and approval process without any hiccups. Good luck!

Just wanted to add - keep all your documentation organized from day one. Pay stubs, termination letter, any correspondence with Washington ESD. You might need it later for appeals or if they audit your claim.

•Great advice. I'll start a folder for all the unemployment paperwork.

•Smart move. Digital copies are good too in case you need to upload documents to their system.

Bottom line - at your income level, you'll probably get close to the maximum benefit amount. Just be patient with the process and stay on top of your weekly claims. It's not fun being unemployed, but at least Washington's benefits are decent.
