I had to appeal my benefit amount because I thought it was too low. Turns out Washington ESD wasn't counting wages from one of my employers properly. The appeals process took about 6 weeks but I got backpay for the difference.
Don't get discouraged if the process seems overwhelming. Once you get your first payment and get into the routine of filing weekly claims, it becomes pretty straightforward. The hardest part is usually just getting your initial claim approved.
just remember that holidays can delay payments too, even if Washington ESD processes them on time your bank might not release them until after the holiday
Bottom line: check your payment status online first, call the automated line if you need faster updates, and if there's a real problem that needs human help, don't waste time on hold - use whatever resources you need to get connected to someone who can actually help you.
For what it's worth, I tried the Claimyr service when I couldn't get through to Washington ESD and it actually worked. Got connected to an agent in about 20 minutes instead of the usual hours of busy signals. Worth checking out if you need help with your claim timing or anything else.
Bottom line: File your unemployment claim the day you lose your job. Don't wait, don't hesitate, don't overthink it. The Washington ESD system is designed to help people in your situation. Take advantage of it immediately.
Quick reminder that you can also receive unemployment benefits while working part-time in Washington, but your benefit amount gets reduced based on how much you earn. The minimum benefit amount still applies even if you're getting partial benefits.
This whole thread has been super informative. I was in the same boat wondering about minimum benefits when I got laid off from my retail job. Turns out even part-time workers can qualify for decent unemployment benefits in Washington if they meet the earnings requirements.

The whole system is confusing but once you get your first payment it becomes more routine. The hardest part is the initial application and waiting for approval. After that it's just filing your weekly claims and doing your job searches.

•Good luck with your claim! The whole process is stressful but Washington's benefits are pretty decent compared to other states.

One last tip - if you run into any issues with your claim or need to speak with someone at Washington ESD about your benefits, that Claimyr service I mentioned earlier really does work. Much easier than trying to navigate their phone system on your own.

•I'll keep that in mind if I run into problems. Hopefully the process goes smoothly but it's good to know there are options if I get stuck.
