One more tip - if you're getting close to exhausting your 26 weeks and still haven't found work, start looking into other assistance programs like SNAP or local resources. Don't wait until the last week to figure out your next steps.
I used Claimyr when I was having issues with my weekly claims getting stuck. Really helped to talk to someone at Washington ESD who could see what was going on with my account instead of just guessing based on the online portal status.
Once the protest period ends and Washington ESD starts their investigation, you'll usually hear something within 1-2 weeks. They're pretty good about keeping cases moving once they start the fact-finding process.
just remember that even if the protest delays your first payment, you're still building weeks of eligibility. once approved you'll get a lump sum for all the back weeks you filed for
One last thing - if you ever need to appeal a decision, don't wait. You usually only have 30 days from the date of the determination letter. Missing that deadline can cost you your entire claim.
One more tip - if your claim gets approved, make sure you understand the weekly certification process. You'll need to report any work you do and income you earn each week, even if it's just a few hours here and there.
i was in almost the exact same situation - fired for being late because of bus problems. took about 3 weeks but washington esd approved me. the key was explaining that i was actively trying to solve my transportation issues

Worth mentioning that even if you don't qualify for regular unemployment, there might be other programs available depending on your situation. Washington has extended benefits during high unemployment periods and other assistance programs.

•Good to know there might be backup options. Hopefully won't need any of this but better to be prepared.

•Absolutely. Planning ahead is smart. And with your work history, you should qualify for regular UI benefits without needing alternative programs.

One last tip - when you do file (if needed), be completely honest about everything. Washington ESD will verify your information with employers anyway, and any discrepancies can cause major delays or disqualification.

•Thanks for all the advice everyone. Feeling much more prepared now even though I hope I won't need to use any of this information!

•Hope you don't need it either, but you're definitely in a good position if you do. 8 months of steady work should qualify you without any issues.
