Just want to add that if you switch from debit card to direct deposit, it can take a week or two for the change to take effect. Don't panic if your payment method seems off during the transition.
thanks everyone for all the info! feeling much more confident about the payment process now. will file my weekly claim sunday and expect payment wednesday. appreciate all the help!
Remember that you have to be actively looking for work to keep getting benefits. Washington ESD requires 3 job search activities per week and they do check up on it sometimes.
The weekly benefit amount stays the same throughout your claim period. It doesn't change based on how long you've been unemployed or anything like that. You get the same amount each week until you hit your maximum benefit amount or find work.
I used Claimyr when I was dealing with a complex quit situation and needed to speak with someone at Washington ESD. Being able to actually talk through the specifics with an agent was really helpful for understanding how to present my case.
Bottom line - you CAN get unemployment if you quit, but you need to prove you had good cause. Your hour reduction and hostile work environment could qualify, but document everything and be prepared for a potentially long process.
The whole system seems designed to be as complicated as possible. Why can't they just base it on your last few paystubs like other states do?
Using quarterly data provides a more stable calculation that accounts for seasonal variations and temporary pay changes. Paystubs can be misleading if someone had unusual earnings right before filing.
Just want to say thanks to everyone who explained this. I was worried my benefit amount was wrong but now I understand how Washington ESD calculated it. This thread was more helpful than their website!
Glad this helped! And remember if you ever need to actually speak with Washington ESD about your specific situation, Claimyr can save you hours of calling. Super helpful service.

The waiting is the worst part. I remember checking my account obsessively every day waiting for something to change. Try to stay busy with job hunting and don't let the stress consume you.

•Thanks for the advice. It's hard not to worry when bills are piling up but you're right.

•I know it's easier said than done but the waiting is normal. Most people get approved eventually.

Bottom line - if everything goes smoothly you're looking at about a month from filing to first payment. If there are complications it could be 6-8 weeks or more. Have a backup plan for covering expenses during the waiting period.

•A month is manageable. Beyond that would be really tough. Thanks everyone for the realistic timeline.
