Honestly, if your friend is unsure about their eligibility, they should just apply anyway. The worst that happens is they get denied, but they might qualify when they think they won't. The adjudication process exists to review each case individually.
One more thing - if you need to talk to Washington ESD about any of these qualification issues, that Claimyr service someone mentioned earlier really does work. I was stuck in adjudication for weeks and couldn't get through to anyone. They got me connected to an agent who explained exactly what was holding up my claim.
The hardest part about partial unemployment is keeping track of all your earnings and making sure you report everything correctly. I use a spreadsheet to track my hours and pay.
Just want to say thanks to everyone who shared their experiences with partial unemployment. I'm going to apply this week and feel much more confident about the process now!
The most important thing is to file your claim as soon as possible after you lose your job. Benefits don't start until you file, so don't wait even if you're not sure about the calculation.
One last thing - keep detailed records of your job search activities from day one. Washington ESD requires you to search for work and document it properly. It's easier to stay organized from the beginning than to try to recreate your search history later.
That's smart. I used Claimyr again when I had questions about the job search requirements - they really helped me understand what documentation Washington ESD was looking for.
The calculation seems correct based on what you've described. Focus on filing your weekly claims correctly and doing your job search activities. Those are more important than understanding every detail of the benefit calculation.
One last thing to check - make sure your monetary determination included wages from both of your part-time jobs. Sometimes if employers don't report correctly, one of your jobs might be missing from the calculation.

Just want to add that your benefit amount gets calculated automatically once you file your initial claim. You don't have to do the math yourself - Washington ESD will send you a monetary determination letter with your weekly benefit amount and how long you can collect.

•That's reassuring! So I should just file and wait to see what they calculate for me.

•Exactly, no need to stress about the calculation. Just make sure all your employment history is accurate when you file.

IMPORTANT: Make sure you file your claim as soon as possible after becoming unemployed. In Washington you can't get benefits for weeks before you actually filed, even if you were eligible. Don't wait thinking you might find a job quickly.

•Good advice, I'll file this week for sure. Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

•Yeah I made that mistake and lost out on 2 weeks of benefits because I thought I'd find something fast. File right away!
