Bottom line: plan for 26 weeks maximum, but hope you find something sooner. Keep good records, follow all the requirements, and don't wait until the last minute to start thinking about what's next if benefits run out.
Also don't forget that if you worked for multiple employers during your base period, Washington ESD will combine all those wages to calculate your benefit. So gather information from all your jobs during that timeframe.
For those doing gig work or freelancing while on unemployment, make sure those job search efforts get documented too. Contacting potential clients or platforms counts as work search activities.
Final tip from someone who's been through this process: when in doubt, over-document rather than under-document. Washington ESD would rather see too much information than too little when they're reviewing your work search efforts.
Just want to add that if you're union, check with your rep too. Sometimes there are additional protections or benefits available during layoffs.
Bottom line - with 14 months of work history you should be fine to qualify. The bigger issue will be making sure you file correctly and navigate the weekly claims process smoothly.

Bottom line: you CAN get unemployment after quitting if you have good cause. Just be prepared for extra scrutiny and make sure you have solid documentation. Don't let anyone tell you that quitting automatically disqualifies you - that's not true in Washington state.

One more thing - if you do get approved, your benefits might be reduced for the first few weeks as a 'penalty' for quitting. It's not much but something to be aware of.

•Really? I hadn't heard about that. How much of a reduction are we talking about?

•Actually, that's not accurate for Washington state. If you quit for good cause, there's no penalty reduction. You might be thinking of other states or different types of separations.
