One thing people forget - if you had taxes withheld from unemployment, that counts toward your total tax payments for the year. Check box 4 on your 1099-G to see if any federal tax was withheld.
For anyone still confused about reaching Washington ESD with tax questions, I had success with Claimyr too. They got me through to someone who could explain exactly how my 1099-G was calculated. Worth checking out their demo video if you're struggling with ESD phone lines.
It's at claimyr.com if you want to check it out. Saved me hours of frustration.
The Washington ESD employer handbook explains all this stuff in detail. Dry reading but comprehensive.
Bottom line for new employers: budget around 2.7% of the first $68,500 per employee. Adjust up or down based on your industry and turnover expectations.
Final update: Got my approval notification today! Took exactly 19 days from filing to approval. First payment should hit my account in a few days. Thanks everyone for the advice and support!
This thread has been super helpful. I'm about to file my own claim and feel much more prepared now. Bookmarking this for reference!
For the original poster - the key things to watch for after applying: 1) Check your SAW account daily, 2) Respond quickly to any requests for information, 3) Don't file weekly claims until you're told to, 4) Keep your contact info current, 5) Be patient but persistent if you don't hear anything after 10 business days.
Thanks everyone for all the advice! I feel much more prepared now and know what to expect. Will definitely keep checking my account daily and have all my documents ready just in case.

Final thought - keep detailed records of all your interactions with Washington ESD about this overpayment. Dates, times, who you talked to, what was discussed. It can be really helpful if there are any disputes later.

•Absolutely. I'm starting a file with all the paperwork and will document every conversation.

•Smart approach. Having good records saved me when they tried to claim I never made a payment that I actually did make.
