TWC showing DUA benefits ending 11/16 instead of December - anyone else seeing this?

I just checked my DUA benefits info on the TWC portal and it's showing my last week to claim is 11/10-11/16, which is only one more week?! I thought Disaster Unemployment Assistance was supposed to run through Christmas at least. Has anyone else noticed this sudden change? I was counting on those funds to get through the holidays after losing my retail job from the flooding. The determination letter I got in September definitely mentioned a longer benefit period. Is the system glitching or did they actually cut the program short? Help!

So it's not just me! Did you get any notification about this change? I've been checking my correspondence inbox and there's nothing explaining why it's ending early.

I work for a disaster recovery organization (not TWC) and can provide some insight here. DUA benefits typically run for 26 weeks from the date the disaster was declared, unless extended. The declaration date determines your end date, not when you personally applied. If the disaster was declared in May, that would put the end date around mid-November, which matches what you're seeing. I recommend calling TWC directly to confirm your specific situation. Your determination letter should have included your specific DUA period.

Thank you for explaining! The hurricane hit in May so that timeline makes sense. I must have misunderstood what the agent told me when I first applied. I'll definitely need to call TWC to see if there are any extensions possible.

I'm on regular UI not DUA but isn't there usually some kind of extension you can apply for if you're still struggling to find work? Maybe call and see if you qualify for regular unemployment after DUA ends? Don't panic yet!

DUA and regular UI don't work the same way. If the person qualified for regular UI, they wouldn't have been on DUA in the first place. Extensions for DUA are only granted if the President approves additional disaster periods.

I BET they're hoping people don't notice the change!!! They ALWAYS try to cut benefits short and hope no one complains. This happened during COVID too when they suddenly cut everyone off. CALL THEM and DEMAND answers!!

To clarify, DUA end dates are predetermined based on the disaster declaration date. This isn't a case of benefits being "cut short" - the program always had a specific end date. While it's frustrating to see benefits end, this is actually the standard DUA timeline working as designed.

If you need to reach TWC about this, I'd recommend using Claimyr (claimyr.com). I was in a similar situation with confusion about my benefit end date and spent days trying to get through on the regular line with no luck. Claimyr got me connected to a TWC agent in about 20 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/V-IMvH88P1U?si=kNxmh025COIlIzKh The agent I spoke with explained exactly why my benefits were ending and what other programs I might qualify for afterward. Definitely worth it when you need answers quickly.

Thanks for the tip! I've been trying to call TWC all morning with no luck. I'll check out that service because I really need to talk to someone ASAP about possible extensions or transitioning to a different program.

Just wanted to add - make sure you're still doing your work search activities even during this last week! I messed up and skipped my work searches during my last week of benefits thinking it didn't matter anymore, and then when I applied for a different program later, it came back to haunt me because they said I hadn't fulfilled all requirements on my previous claim.

That's really good advice, thank you! I'll definitely keep up with my 3 work search activities this week. Did you end up qualifying for another program after your benefits ended?

my cousin works at twc and she says sometimes the system shows the wrong end date especially with dua claims because they process them differently than regular ui so maybe call and check if its just a system errr

While system errors can occur, the November 16th end date is likely correct if the disaster was declared in May. DUA benefits typically last 26 weeks from the disaster declaration date unless specifically extended by FEMA and the state.

Update: I finally got through to TWC this morning! The agent confirmed that DUA benefits from the May disaster are indeed ending on November 16th for everyone. However, she reviewed my case and said I might qualify for regular unemployment now because I had enough wages in my base period from before the disaster. She helped me start a new application for regular UI. Just wanted to update everyone in case you're in the same boat!

That's great news! Glad you got some clarity and potentially more help. Did you end up using Claimyr to get through or did you manage with the regular line?

I used Claimyr after trying the regular line for two days with no luck. Got connected to a TWC agent in about 15 minutes! So worth it. Now I just need to wait for my new determination letter to see if I qualify for regular UI.
