What is PA Career Link Reemployment Assessment Session? Got a Notice to Attend
I just checked my PA UC portal this morning and there's a notification saying I need to attend something called a 'Reemployment Service and Eligibility Assessment Session' through PA Career Link. I've been on unemployment for about 5 weeks now after the restaurant I managed closed down. The notice says it's mandatory but doesn't really explain what it is? It's scheduled for next week and says I'll lose benefits if I don't attend. Has anyone gone through one of these sessions? What should I expect and how long does it take? I'm nervous they're trying to cut my benefits.

The RESEA (Reemployment Service and Eligibility Assessment) is completely normal - nothing to panic about! PA randomly selects certain UC recipients to participate in these sessions as part of their ongoing eligibility verification process. During the session, which usually lasts about 1-2 hours, they'll: 1. Review your work search activities to make sure you're meeting requirements 2. Help you create/update your resume on PA CareerLink 3. Discuss your job search strategy and offer resources 4. Connect you with potential training opportunities It's actually pretty helpful. Just make sure you bring documentation of your weekly work search activities (applications submitted, contacts made, etc.) and your resume if you have one.

•Thanks for explaining this! Do you know if they're looking for specific reasons to disqualify me or is it more of a helpful session? I've been keeping records of my job applications but I'm worried they'll find some tiny mistake.

I had to do one of these last year and it was annoying af!!! They made me sit there for TWO HOURS while some lady went through this whole scripted presentation about how to write resumes and use their job search website. Then they spent like 20 minutes going through my work search records and asking all these questions about why I hadn't applied to certain jobs. THEN they flagged my account for "additional review" which delayed my payment for 3 weeks!!!! The whole thing is just designed to make people give up on getting benefits!!

•While I understand your frustration, your experience isn't typical. Most RESEA sessions are straightforward if you've been keeping proper records. The point isn't to disqualify you - it's to help get people back to work faster. Remember that PA UC has strict work search requirements: you must complete at least two work search activities per week and apply to one job per week. If you weren't meeting these requirements, that would explain the additional review.

•You absolutely need to contact them ASAP to reschedule! Call the Career Link office listed on your notice immediately. If you miss without rescheduling, they can suspend your benefits. Make sure to document your call (time, who you spoke with) in case there are any issues later.

I attended one in February. It wasn't as bad as I expected. They helped me set up my profile on PA CareerLink and showed me how to search for jobs that match my skills. They also told me about some free training programs that might help me get better jobs. Just make sure you've been doing your work searches properly (keeping records of where you applied, when, contact info, etc.) and you'll be fine!

•That's good to hear! Did they check your work search records in detail? I've been applying to jobs but I'm afraid I might be missing some information they'll want to see.

A few important things about the RESEA session that others haven't mentioned: 1. Arrive 10-15 minutes early with ID and your work search records 2. The session might be in-person or virtual (check your notice carefully) 3. Be prepared to discuss your specific barriers to employment 4. They'll review your UC eligibility requirements thoroughly 5. You'll need to complete and sign an Individual Employment Plan I'm a career counselor who works with UC claimants, and I can tell you these sessions can actually be quite beneficial if you approach them with the right attitude. Many of my clients have found jobs through the connections made during these sessions.

•Thank you for this detailed information! I'll make sure to prepare thoroughly. My notice says it's in-person at the downtown career link office. Do I need to bring printed copies of my job applications or just have the information ready?

If you're stressed about getting through to someone at PA UC to ask questions about this before your appointment, I'd recommend using Claimyr. After getting a similar RESEA notice, I had questions but couldn't get through on the regular UC phone lines - busy signals for days! A friend told me about this service that gets you connected to an actual UC rep quickly. I checked out their demo video (https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2) and decided to give it a try through their website claimyr.com. Got connected to a rep within 30 minutes who explained everything about the RESEA session and even checked that my work search records were being properly recorded in the system. Saved me tons of stress before my appointment!

•Does that service actually work? I've been trying to get through to UC for 2 weeks about an overpayment notice. Might be worth trying if it actually gets you to a real person.

@profile5 - Yes, it actually worked for me. I was skeptical too but was desperate after trying for days to get through. The UC rep I spoke with was able to check my account and answer all my questions about the RESEA meeting. Definitely better than waiting on hold forever or getting busy signals.

•Thanks for mentioning this. I'll try the regular number first but good to know there's a backup option if I can't get through. I have so many questions about what documents to bring.

•Oh no! That's exactly what I'm worried about. How long did it take to get your benefits back after you appealed?

To answer your latest question - you should bring printed copies of everything if possible. This includes: 1. Work search record forms or detailed notes of all job applications 2. Copies of job applications if you have them 3. Current resume (they'll help you update it) 4. Photo ID 5. Your UC claim information Being over-prepared is better than under-prepared. And don't worry too much - these sessions are designed to help, not to trip you up. The vast majority of people leave with their benefits intact and some helpful resources.

•Thank you! I'll get everything printed out this weekend. One last question - do they contact the employers I've applied to in order to verify my applications?

They typically don't contact employers during the session itself, but PA UC does conduct random audits where they may verify your work search activities afterward. This is why it's crucial to have accurate information about where you applied, when, and the method of application (online, in-person, etc.). As long as you've been honest in your applications, you have nothing to worry about. One tip: After your RESEA session, continue logging into PA CareerLink regularly (at least once a week) as sometimes they monitor this activity as part of your ongoing eligibility requirements.

•That's really helpful to know. I've definitely been honest about my applications but wasn't sure how detailed my records needed to be. I'll make sure to keep using the CareerLink site regularly too. Thanks everyone for all this information - feeling much less anxious about the whole thing now!
