Started new job but PA UC claim still in review - will I get paid for pending weeks?

So I just started a new job last Monday (full-time) after being unemployed for about 2 months. I have 3 weeks of claims that are still showing as 'in progress' in the PA UC system. Will I still get those benefit payments once they finish reviewing my claim, or does starting a new job automatically cancel everything? I reported my earnings honestly on my last weekly certification. Really stressing about this because I won't get my first paycheck for another week and I'm behind on rent. Anyone dealt with this before?

Yes, you'll still get paid for those weeks that are in progress as long as you were eligible during those specific weeks. Starting a new job doesn't cancel any benefits you were entitled to before you started working. The system just processes each week separately based on your eligibility during that particular week.

Thanks for the quick answer! Do you know how long it typically takes them to process claims that are 'in progress'? It's been like this for almost 3 weeks now.

same thing hapened to me last year! got my benifits eventually but took like 5 weeks, so annoying

5 weeks?? I can't wait that long, I'm already behind on bills. Did you do anything to speed it up?

nope just waited. UC system sucks lol

The PA UC system is SO BROKEN! I had to wait 6 WEEKS for my 'in progress' claims to be paid and they never even told me what the hold up was! And then they had the nerve to send me an overpayment notice later! You absolutely deserve to get paid for those weeks before you started your job but good luck actually getting through to anyone who can help!

I get so angry thinking about this. My brother had his claim stuck for months and almost got evicted. They seriously need to fix this system.

I've been through exactly this situation. 100% you'll get paid for those weeks if you were eligible, but there might be an issue delaying your claim. A few possibilities: 1. They might be verifying your previous employment details 2. There could be a question about your availability during those weeks 3. Sometimes it's just a random system flag You'll need to talk to someone at UC to find out what's causing the delay. Have you tried calling them?

I've tried calling like 20 times but can't get through - constant busy signals or it disconnects me after being on hold forever.

When I started my new job I had 4 weeks pending and was worried about the same thing! The trick is you need to report your new employment on your weekly certification accurately, including the date you started and your earnings for that week. As long as you did that, you should get paid for all weeks before you started working, and possibly partial benefits for weeks where you earned less than your weekly benefit rate.

I did report everything correctly. I'm just worried about the weeks that are stuck in progress from before I started working. Really need that money.

have you checked your dashboard for any open issues? sometimes there's a thing you need to do but they don't tell you about it. go to the open issues tab and see if there's anything there. also check your messages in case they sent you something that you missed.

I checked and there are no open issues showing. The status just says 'in progress' for all three weeks. No messages either. It's so frustrating!

I had the same problem last year when my claim was stuck 'in progress' for weeks. I finally got through to someone using Claimyr (claimyr.com). It's a service that helps you get through to an actual PA UC representative without waiting for hours. I was skeptical at first but it actually worked - they got me connected to an agent in about 20 minutes. You can see how it works in their video demo: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2 The agent was able to see there was a verification flag on my account that was causing the delay and cleared it right away. Got my payments a few days later.

I've never heard of this before. Does it actually work? I'm desperate at this point.

It worked for me. They basically keep calling for you and then connect you when they get through. Saved me hours of frustration. In my case, the agent saw the issue was some missing employer verification that they hadn't even notified me about.

i think you can get partial benefits for the week you started working too if you didn't make more than your weekly benefit amount! just make sure you report all earnings

This is correct. If you earn less than your weekly benefit rate in your first week of work, you can receive partial benefits. PA UC uses a partial benefit credit formula where they disregard 30% of your weekly benefit rate and then subtract your earnings from that amount.

my friend was in a similar situation and what happened is that even though she started a new job they still paid her for all the weeks she was unemployed before that job started. but there was something about the system being really slow to process everything when there's any change like starting a new job. i think she waited like 3-4 weeks for everything to process.

yep this is normal for PA UC honestly, everything takes forever

Just to clarify for everyone: Starting a new job does NOT cancel your eligibility for previous weeks when you were unemployed. The system processes each week individually. However, there are a few important things to know: 1. Report your new employment immediately (sounds like you did this) 2. Make sure to report all earnings for the week you started working 3. If your claim is stuck 'in progress' for more than 3 weeks, there's likely an unresolved issue The best course of action is to speak with a UC representative directly to find out what's causing the delay. They can often resolve these issues on the spot once you get through to them.

Thanks for the detailed explanation! I'm going to try calling again tomorrow morning right when they open. Hopefully I can get through.

Just wondering - did you accept your job offer while still on unemployment? Sometimes the system flags your account if you fail to report a job offer even if you haven't started working yet. It's one of those ridiculous technicalities they use to delay payments!

0 coins

I did get the offer while on unemployment, but I didn't think I needed to report it until I actually started working. Is that something they require? Now I'm worried that's the issue.

You're only required to report when you actually start working, not when you receive a job offer. The previous commenter is incorrect about that specific point. No need to worry about that being the issue.

UPDATE: I finally got through to someone at UC! They said there was a verification issue with my previous employer that was holding everything up. The representative cleared it and said I should receive payment for all three weeks within 3-5 business days. Such a relief! Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions. I'll update again when the money actually hits my account.

That's great news! Glad you were able to get it resolved. This is exactly why it's so important to actually speak with someone when your claim is stuck.
