PA UC work search - Do I need resume on CareerLink if I have employer recall date?
Hey everyone, I'm totally confused about the PA CareerLink requirement. Got laid off December 1st and my UC payments have been coming through fine until now. Just received a letter saying I need to register with CareerLink. Here's my situation - I've worked at the same place for over 25 years and I'm semi-retired (69 years old). I have an official callback letter from my employer with a return date, which I uploaded to my UC document folder. I went ahead and registered on CareerLink and got my Keystone ID, but now it's asking me to build a resume. Do I actually need to create a resume when I already have a return-to-work date? I'm only going back part-time, but it's the same job I've had forever. Really anxious about this because I don't want to lose my benefits over something silly like not having a resume. Anyone dealt with something similar?

If you have an official recall date from your employer that's documented in your UC portal, you should be exempt from the full work search requirements. The CareerLink registration is still required for everyone, but you don't need to create a resume if you have a valid return date. Double check that your recall letter has been properly processed in your account though - you should see it listed as an approved exemption. If not, call UC to confirm they've processed it.

•Thank you for this! I can see the document in my uploaded files, but nowhere does it say "approved exemption." That's what got me worried. Do they actually mark it as approved somewhere or do I just assume it's good since they accepted the upload?

you still need to register with PA CareerLink but thats it. i was in same boat last year, had recall date from my factory job. just make sure date of return is clearly showin on your letter. dont worry about resume part!

•That's a relief! I was worried I'd do something wrong and then suddenly my payments would stop. The letter definitely has the date on it. Thanks for sharing your experience!

I went through this EXACT same thing last winter!!! Registered with CareerLink but then they kept sending me emails about finishing my profile and resume which freaked me out. Called UC about 47 times (always busy!!!) and when I FINALLY got through they told me the registration itself was enough since I had a recall date. But guess what? Two weeks later they froze my benefits anyway saying I wasn't complying with work search!!! Had to appeal and it was a NIGHTMARE. Took 6 weeks to fix!!

•Oh no, that's exactly what I'm afraid of! 6 weeks without benefits would be terrible. Did you have to do anything special during your appeal to prove you had the recall date?

•I had to send the recall letter AGAIN plus get my employer to send some kind of verification form. The whole thing was ridiculous especially since I'd already uploaded everything!!! The system is so broken!!!

To clarify what others have said: With PA UC, there are different work search requirements depending on your situation. If you have a recall date within 12 weeks, you are exempt from the weekly work search activities (applying to jobs, etc.) but you DO still need to register with PA CareerLink. The registration itself is sufficient - you don't need to complete a resume. However, you should verify that your recall letter has been properly processed. Look in your dashboard under "Work Search Status" and it should indicate your exemption. If you're concerned, I would recommend trying to reach a UC representative. Many people have had success using Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to an agent without waiting on hold for hours. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2. Getting confirmation from an actual representative will give you peace of mind.

•Thank you for the detailed explanation! I just checked and I don't see anything under "Work Search Status" - is that something that should be immediately visible on my dashboard? I'll definitely try reaching someone to confirm everything is in order.

•Yes, it should appear on your dashboard, though sometimes it takes a few days after uploading documents for the system to update. I highly recommend calling to verify - waiting for the system to catch up can be risky if there's a problem. The sooner you get confirmation, the better.

My neighbor had similar situation but he was 72 and going back to his construction job. He just registered on the website and ignored all the emails about finishing his profile and resume stuff. Never had any problems with his benefits. I think sometimes people overthink this stuff.

I had COMPLETELY different experience. Just register then ignored the resume part & they stopped my benefits for 3 wks saying I didnt complete the work search requirements!!! Had to call 100000 times. When I finally got someone they made me do the resume ANYWAY even tho I had a letter. Said the rules changed in 2022. So confusing!!!!!

I work in HR and deal with this regularly for our seasonal employees. Here's the official requirement: If you have a definite recall date within 12 weeks, you must: 1. Register with PA CareerLink (which you've done) 2. Upload your employer recall letter to your UC portal (which you've done) 3. Answer "Yes" to the question about having a recall date when filing weekly claims That's it. You do NOT need to create a resume or perform weekly work search activities. However, I strongly suggest calling UC to confirm they've processed your recall letter correctly. I've seen many cases where documentation was uploaded but not properly reviewed in the system, leading to unnecessary issues.

•Thank you so much for the clear explanation! I definitely answer Yes to the recall date question each week. I'll try calling them to make sure everything is properly noted in my account. Really appreciate the professional insight!

•I tried calling UC three times yesterday but couldn't get through (busy signal every time). Going to try that Claimyr service mentioned above. I'll update once I get an answer!

I used Claimyr last month to get through to PA UC about a similar issue - had a part-time job while on benefits and needed to clarify something. Got connected in like 20 minutes when I'd been trying for days on my own. Worth it just for the peace of mind knowing your benefits won't suddenly stop.

•Just tried it and got through! The agent confirmed that since I have a recall date and it's properly documented in my file, I only need the registration part of CareerLink. They said I can ignore the emails about completing my profile/resume. Such a relief! Thanks everyone for the help.
