PA UC phone number constantly busy - any alternative contact methods?

I've been trying to reach PA Unemployment for DAYS about my claim status but the main number (1-888-313-7284) is ALWAYS busy!! I've called at different times - early morning, lunch, afternoon - nothing works. Just busy signals or the automated message saying they're experiencing high call volume. Does anyone know alternative phone numbers or better ways to contact them? My claim has been pending for 3 weeks and I'm getting really anxious about paying bills. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Ugh, that's so discouraging. Have you tried calling right when they open? That's my next plan but not feeling hopeful...

The system is completely overwhelmed right now. I was in the same boat last month and finally got through by calling literally at 7:59am, right before they open at 8am. Sometimes you can also try the employer line and they might transfer you: 866-403-6163. But honestly, even that's a long shot these days.

The employer line doesn't work anymore for transfers - they caught on to that trick. I tried last week and got scolded lol

I was stuck in the same situation for nearly a month, but finally found a service called Claimyr that got me connected to PA UC in about 20 minutes. It basically auto-redials for you until it gets through, then calls you back when it has an agent on the line. Worked great and saved me days of frustration. Their website is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2

Thank you SO much for this! I'll definitely check it out. At this point I'd try anything to get this resolved.

is this legit? seems sketchy that wed need to pay someone to call unemployment for us 🤔

It's definitely legit - they don't call for you, they just connect you directly to an agent when they get through. I was skeptical too but it worked for me. They've been around for a few years now.

Another option is trying to reach your state representative's office. I had an issue with my claim stuck in pending limbo for 6 weeks, and my rep's office has a dedicated person who deals with UC issues. They can sometimes escalate things when you can't get through yourself. Find your rep here: https://www.legis.state.pa.us/cfdocs/legis/home/findyourlegislator/

I never thought of this! Great idea, I'll try calling my state rep tomorrow if I still can't get through to UC directly.

DONT WASTE UR TIME CALLING!!! the whole system is broken on purpose. I spent 2 months trying to reach someone and when I finally did they just told me to upload more documents and wait AGAIN. Total waste of time.

While I understand your frustration, speaking with a UC rep is actually essential for resolving many claim issues, especially ones with open issues or identity verification problems. The system is definitely overwhelmed, but getting through to a rep is often the only way to fix certain problems.

There's a CareerLink about 20 minutes from me - I'll try that too! Do I need an appointment or can I just walk in?

The 888 number is the correct one, but here are some strategies that have worked for me and others I've helped: 1. Call EXACTLY at 7:59am, not 8:00 (phones actually turn on slightly before 8) 2. If you have an open issue, try the dedicated open issues line: 1-855-284-8545 3. For benefit payment questions specifically: 1-888-255-4728 4. For PIN reset issues: 1-888-313-7284, press 2, then 2 again 5. Use the messaging system in your dashboard (slower but they do respond) Also, make sure your claim doesn't have any "open issues" in your dashboard that require documents or information from you. That's often what causes delays.

Thank you for these detailed tips! I do see "unresolved issue" on my dashboard but there's no information about what documents they need. That's why I've been trying to call. I'll try these other numbers tomorrow morning.

For unresolved issues, definitely try the 1-855-284-8545 number! That's specifically for open issues and sometimes has a shorter queue. Also check your Notices and Determinations section - they sometimes post document requests there that don't show up as alerts.

UPDATE: I finally got through! Used the Claimyr service that @profile2 recommended and was connected with an agent in about 30 minutes. The issue with my claim was that they needed additional employment verification that wasn't clearly marked in my portal. The agent helped me upload the right documents and said my claim should be processed within 7-10 days. Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions!

That's great news! Glad it worked out for you. That's exactly what happened to me - the required documents weren't clearly shown in the portal.

I'm dealing with the exact same frustration! Been trying to get through for over 2 weeks now. Reading through all these suggestions is really helpful - I had no idea about the CareerLink offices or the state rep option. Going to try calling at 7:59am tomorrow and if that doesn't work, I'll check out that Claimyr service. It's ridiculous that we have to jump through so many hoops just to get basic help with our claims, but at least there are some workarounds. Thanks to everyone sharing their experiences!

I feel your pain! I just went through this same nightmare last month. The 7:59am trick actually does work sometimes - I got through on my third try doing that. Also want to add that if you have a smartphone, you can set up an auto-redial app to keep calling while you do other things. Just make sure you're ready to answer when it connects! The CareerLink option is definitely worth trying too - mine was super helpful and actually spotted an issue in my claim that I never would have noticed. Hang in there, you'll get through eventually!
