PA UC ReliaCard text messages showing up years after claim ended - should I be worried?
This is super weird and kinda freaking me out. I haven't collected any PA unemployment since like mid-2022 when my benefits ran out, but I started getting these random text messages from ReliaCard about my account balance last week. I've gotten 3 of them so far. The balance shows $0 every time, but why am I suddenly getting these notifications again after almost 3 years of nothing? Did someone try to mess with my account? Should I be concerned about identity theft or is this just some glitch in their system? Has anyone else had this happen recently?

This happened to me about 6 months ago! It's most likely that PA UC is doing some kind of system update or maintenance. When they make changes to their payment systems, sometimes it triggers automated notifications even for dormant accounts. As long as you're not seeing any actual deposits or withdrawals, it's probably nothing to worry about. But if you want peace of mind, you can call the ReliaCard customer service number on the back of your old card to verify no unusual activity has occurred.

•Thanks for the reassurance. I still have my old card somewhere in a drawer. I'll dig it out and give them a call tomorrow just to be safe.

•Let's not jump to conclusions. While fraud is certainly a possibility to be aware of, system glitches with the ReliaCard notification system are actually quite common. PA UC regularly performs updates that can trigger these messages. I'd suggest a measured approach: 1) Call ReliaCard to confirm no activity on your account, 2) Check your PA UC online account to verify no new claims exist, and 3) If everything looks normal, you can request to opt out of text notifications for that account.

This is exactly why I hate the PA UC system. Everything is so poorly done and they never explain anything properly. I bet some programmer made a mistake during an update and now thousands of people are getting these messages and freaking out. Did they bother to send any kind of explanation or warning? Of course not! And good luck trying to get through to anyone on the phone to ask about it. The whole system is designed to frustrate people.

•I had a similar issue last month but with actual deposits showing up in my ReliaCard account that weren't mine! I tried calling PA UC for three days straight and couldn't get through - just busy signals and disconnections. I finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get connected to an agent within 20 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2 The agent confirmed it was a system error affecting multiple accounts and fixed it right away. They're actually surprisingly helpful when you can actually reach them!

When I got texts from ReliaCard it was becuz someone actually DID file a claim in my name last year!!! But the balance was still zero cuz PA UC flagged it as suspicious before any payments went out. You should definitely check your credit and put a freeze on it just to be safe!!!

•Oh no, that's scary! I did freeze my credit last year after that big T-Mobile data breach, so hopefully that would prevent anyone from opening new accounts. I'm definitely going to call ReliaCard tomorrow morning.

After reading through everyone's responses, I want to clarify a few things that might help others who encounter this issue: 1. These random ReliaCard notifications are a known issue that tends to happen during system updates or at the end of fiscal quarters when accounts are being reconciled. 2. While it *could* indicate fraud, it most commonly doesn't, especially if the balance shows $0 and there are no transactions. 3. Steps you should take: - Log into your PA UC online account to check for any new claim activity - Contact ReliaCard customer service (not PA UC) about the text messages - If you suspect fraud, contact the PA UC Fraud Hotline at 1-800-692-7292 - Consider opting out of ReliaCard text notifications if you no longer use the account 4. PA UC has been implementing new security measures throughout 2025, which has caused various system glitches like this. Hope this helps anyone dealing with similar issues!

•Update: I called ReliaCard this morning. They confirmed there's been no activity on my account since 2022. The customer service rep said they've had a lot of calls about this recently and it was due to a system update that accidentally triggered notifications for dormant accounts. He removed me from their text notification system. Thanks everyone for your help!

This is such a relief to read! I was about to post almost the exact same question because I started getting these ReliaCard texts last week too after not collecting UC since early 2022. Mine also show $0 balance but I was worried someone might be trying to access my account. Reading through all the responses here, especially Mateo's update that it was just a system glitch from an update, makes me feel so much better. I'm definitely going to call ReliaCard tomorrow to get removed from their text notifications too. Thanks for posting this - you probably helped a lot of people who are dealing with the same thing!

•You're so welcome! I was really worried when it first started happening, but this community is amazing for helping each other figure out these confusing PA UC issues. Definitely call ReliaCard - their customer service was actually pretty helpful and quick about removing the notifications. It's such a relief knowing it's just a system glitch and not something more serious!
