Changed PA UC direct deposit bank info - How long until payments hit new account?

After 3 missed payments in a row, I finally gave up on waiting for my UC money to hit my Fifth Third account. Just updated my direct deposit info in the PA unemployment portal to my credit union account instead. Has anyone gone through changing bank accounts for their PA UC payments? How long did it take for money to start showing up in the new account? I'm already behind on rent and really need this next payment to come through correctly. The PA UC site just says "changes effective immediately" but I've heard that can mean different things...

I changed my direct deposit info back in January. It took exactly 3 business days for my next payment to hit the new account. Make sure you double-checked all the routing and account numbers - even one digit wrong will cause major headaches. Also, if you have any pending payments that were already processed to your old account, those won't automatically redirect to your new account.

Thanks for the quick response! Did you have to do anything special after changing the info? I didn't get any confirmation email or anything, just the success message on the site.

ya i did this 2x already this year lol. first time took like 5 days, 2nd time was faster maybe 2-3 days? depends on when u file ur weekly claim vs when u changed the bank info i think

I just filed my weekly claim yesterday and changed the bank info this morning. So maybe it'll go to the new account? Fingers crossed!

I JUST WENT THROUGH THIS NIGHTMARE!!! Changed my direct deposit in February because PNC was charging me overdraft fees. First payment NEVER showed up anywhere!!! Not in old account, not in new account. Called PA UC for DAYS with busy signals. When I finally got through they said my payment was "returned" due to "account change timing" and they had to reissue it. TOOK THREE WEEKS TO GET MY MONEY!!!!! This system is designed to make us give up!!!!

That's unusual - there must have been a timing issue or possibly a problem with your account info. For most people, changing direct deposit information is straightforward. Did you verify all your banking information was entered correctly?

My cousin had to change her direct deposit info last year because her old bank closed her account. She said it worked fine with the next payment. I think as long as you do it before they process your weekly claim it should go to the new account. But I'm not 100% sure about that.

If you're struggling to get through to PA UC about this or any payment issues, I'd recommend trying Claimyr. When I had a similar issue with my banking information last month, I couldn't get through on the regular line for days. Used Claimyr (claimyr.com) and got connected to a rep in about 20 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2. Definitely worth it when you're dealing with direct deposit issues since those can get messy if not resolved quickly.

Never heard of this before. Does it actually work? I've been calling the UC number for weeks about other issues and never get through.

Yes, it definitely worked for me. I was skeptical too, but was desperate after trying for days on my own. Got connected to a real PA UC agent who fixed my direct deposit issue while I was on the phone. Saved me weeks of waiting and stress.

The Pennsylvania UC system processes direct deposit changes within their payment processing cycle. Here's what typically happens: 1. If you change your banking information BEFORE your weekly claim is processed (usually 2-3 days after filing), the payment should go to your new account. 2. If you change it AFTER the claim is already in processing, it will go to the previous account. 3. If there's an issue with the timing where the payment is caught between accounts, it might be returned to the Treasury and need to be reissued. For most claimants, the next payment after changing direct deposit information will go to the new account as long as the change was made at least 48 hours before the payment processing date. The UC service center can confirm which account a payment was sent to if you're uncertain.

This is super helpful, thank you! I filed my weekly claim on Sunday and changed the direct deposit info this morning (Tuesday). Based on what you're saying, it sounds like the payment might already be in processing to my old account? Guess I'll have to check both accounts.

Yes, with that timing, there's a good chance the payment was already being processed to your previous account. UC typically processes Sunday claims on Monday or Tuesday morning. I'd recommend checking both accounts and contacting the UC service center if you don't see a deposit in either account within 3-4 business days.

anybody else notice payments been taking longer lately even without changing banks? my last 2 payments took 4 days instead of the usual 2

0 coins

YES!! It's not just you. My payments used to hit Tuesday like clockwork but now it's Thursday or even Friday sometimes. They're definitely slowing things down on purpose!!

The processing times can fluctuate based on claim volume and state treasury operations. There hasn't been any official change to the payment schedule, but there are sometimes seasonal variations that can cause temporary delays.

UPDATE: My payment just hit my NEW account this morning! Only took 2 business days after changing the info. So relieved! Thanks everyone for your help and advice.

That's great news! Glad it worked out smoothly for you.

Congrats on getting it sorted out! That's actually pretty quick compared to some of the horror stories I've heard. For anyone else dealing with direct deposit changes, it sounds like the key is making sure you change it well before your weekly claim gets processed. I'm saving this thread for future reference since I might need to switch banks myself soon. Fifth Third has been giving me issues too with their fees.

0 coins

@Sophie Duck I d'definitely recommend switching if Fifth Third is charging you fees! Credit unions are usually much better for UC payments - no holds, no fees, and they process deposits faster. Just make sure to time the change right after you file your weekly claim so the next payment goes to the new account. Good luck!

Just went through this exact same situation last month! Changed from Bank of America to my local credit union because BofA was putting 2-day holds on my UC payments. The switch took about 3 business days for me, but here's the key thing I learned - make sure you change your direct deposit info RIGHT AFTER you file your weekly claim, not before. That way the current payment processes to your old account (which is already set up) and the next payment will definitely go to your new account. Also, keep both accounts open for at least 2 weeks after the switch just in case there are any delays or the payment gets sent to the wrong account. The credit union has been SO much better - no holds, no fees, and deposits usually hit Tuesday morning like clockwork. Hope this helps!

This is really helpful advice about timing the change right after filing! I wish I had known that before I switched mine. I changed it right before filing my claim and ended up in that limbo situation where nobody knew which account the payment was going to. Definitely keeping both accounts open for a few weeks is smart too - learned that the hard way when my bank tried to close my old account automatically and it caused issues with a delayed payment. Thanks for sharing your experience!

@Madison King This is exactly the kind of detailed advice that would have saved me so much stress! The timing tip about changing right after filing is brilliant - I wish someone had mentioned that earlier in the thread. I m'definitely bookmarking this for anyone else I know dealing with UC payment issues. It s'crazy how these little timing details can make such a huge difference in whether everything goes smoothly or turns into a nightmare. Really appreciate you taking the time to share all those specifics!

I'm going through something similar right now! Changed my direct deposit from Chase to a local credit union yesterday because Chase kept putting holds on my payments and charging me maintenance fees. Reading through everyone's experiences here is really reassuring - sounds like most people get their payments within 2-4 business days after the change. @Madison King your timing advice about changing right after filing the weekly claim is gold! I wish I had seen that before I made my change, but hopefully it'll still work out. @Hiroshi Nakamura congrats on getting your payment sorted! Gives me hope that mine will come through smoothly too. This thread is super helpful for anyone dealing with direct deposit changes - definitely saving it for future reference.

Welcome to the community! It sounds like you're in good hands based on all the experiences shared here. Chase can definitely be problematic with UC payments - those holds and fees are so frustrating when you're already dealing with financial stress. The timing might still work out okay for you even if you didn't change it right after filing. Keep an eye on both accounts over the next few days and don't panic if there's a slight delay - it seems pretty normal based on what everyone's shared. Local credit unions really do seem to be the way to go for UC payments. Fingers crossed your next payment hits the new account smoothly!

I'm dealing with a similar situation right now! Just switched from Wells Fargo to my credit union after they kept putting 3-day holds on my UC payments. It's so stressful when you're already struggling financially and then the bank makes it even harder to access your own money. Reading through everyone's experiences here is really helpful - seems like 2-4 business days is pretty standard for the switch to take effect. @Madison King that tip about changing right after filing your weekly claim is amazing advice! I wish more people knew about that timing trick. @Hiroshi Nakamura so glad your payment came through to the new account! Stories like yours give me hope that this will work out smoothly. This whole thread should be pinned somewhere for people dealing with direct deposit issues - there's so much practical advice here that you just can't find on the official PA UC website.

@Ryan Andre I totally feel you on the Wells Fargo holds - they re'the worst for UC payments! I went through the exact same thing with them putting holds on every single deposit, even after months of regular payments. It s'like they don t'understand that unemployment benefits are regular income. The credit union switch was the best decision I made during my unemployment period. Based on everyone s'experiences here, you should see your payment hit the new account within a few days. Just keep checking both accounts for the next week or so to be safe. This thread really has become like a masterclass in handling direct deposit changes - way more useful than anything on the official site!

I just went through this exact situation a few weeks ago! Had to switch from PNC to my local credit union because PNC was charging me $12/month maintenance fees on top of putting 2-day holds on my UC payments. The whole process was way less stressful than I expected after reading some horror stories online. My payment hit the new account in exactly 3 business days after making the change. One thing I learned that might help - I called the credit union ahead of time to let them know UC payments would be coming in, and they said that actually helps them process the deposits faster since they know to expect them. Also definitely keep your old account open for at least a month after switching - I had one payment that got delayed and ended up going to the old account about 2 weeks later. The credit union has been SO much better - no fees, no holds, and they even have better customer service when I have questions. Hang in there, it should work out smoothly for you!

@Molly Chambers That s'such a smart tip about calling the credit union ahead of time! I never would have thought to give them a heads up about expecting UC payments, but it makes total sense that it would help with processing. I m'definitely going to do that when I make my switch. The maintenance fees from these big banks are just insult to injury when you re'already on unemployment - $12/month might not sound like much to them, but every dollar counts when you re'struggling. Really appreciate you sharing the timeline too - 3 business days seems to be the sweet spot that most people are experiencing. And keeping the old account open for a month is great advice, especially after hearing about those delayed payments that can pop up weeks later. Credit unions really do seem to be the way to go for this stuff!

This thread has been incredibly helpful! I'm currently dealing with a similar situation - been having issues with my current bank and considering switching my UC direct deposit. Reading through everyone's experiences gives me a much better idea of what to expect. The timing advice about changing right after filing weekly claims is brilliant - that's the kind of practical tip you just can't find anywhere else. It's also reassuring to see that most people had their payments come through within 2-4 business days. The credit union recommendations are noted too - seems like they're consistently better than the big banks for handling UC payments without all the holds and fees. Thanks to everyone who shared their experiences, especially the specific timelines and tips. This is exactly the kind of real-world advice that makes all the difference when you're trying to navigate these systems!

@Sean O'Donnell You're so right about this thread being a goldmine of practical advice! I've been lurking here for a while dealing with my own banking issues, and seeing everyone's real experiences is way more helpful than the vague official guidance. The timing tip about changing after filing really seems to be the key - wish that was mentioned somewhere official instead of us having to figure it out through trial and error. I'm also impressed by how supportive everyone's been sharing their specific timelines and what worked/didn't work. Definitely going to keep this thread bookmarked for when I eventually make my own switch to a credit union. It's refreshing to see a community actually helping each other navigate these frustrating systems!

This entire thread has been such a lifesaver! I'm currently stuck in direct deposit limbo myself - switched from TD Bank to my credit union last week after TD started charging me $15/month in fees plus putting holds on every UC payment. The stress of not knowing when or where your payment will land is unreal, especially when you're already behind on bills. Reading through everyone's experiences here has been more helpful than hours of trying to get through to PA UC on the phone. The timing advice about changing right after filing your weekly claim is pure gold - wish I had known that beforehand! I made my change mid-week so now I'm just checking both accounts obsessively. @Hiroshi Nakamura congrats on getting it sorted so quickly! @Madison King that detailed breakdown of timing and keeping both accounts open is exactly what I needed to hear. It's amazing how this community provides the real-world guidance that the official sites completely lack. Fingers crossed my payment hits the credit union account in the next day or two!
